dburne Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 A few weeks ago when MRTV showed how to use the VR Cover for the Odyssey I had ordered one and gave it a try, and did not care so much for it. The fit, and how it left for me a gap in the bottom that kind of took away from the immersion I would feel. Well lately VR Covers has introduced a cover specifically for the Reverb G2. https://us.vrcover.com/products/facial-interface-and-foam-replacement-set-for-hp-reverb-g2?pr_prod_strat=copurchase&pr_rec_pid=6101999943838&pr_ref_pid=6066902139038&pr_seq=uniform So I ordered one of these. Got it in yesterday afternoon. It is a very nice shell with nosepiece that literally seals it all off, no light bleed at all. According to instructions it can also be adjusted by moving the nosepiece outside the foam for a little more area. I like mine how it fits as it came just fine. It is very comfortable, I have used it today probably around 3 hours with no discomfort. It comes with two thicknesses of foam with PU Leather covering, I chose to use the thinner one as it would get my eyes closer to the lens. My first impression - it "seems" to increase the size of the sweet spot - just a little. Clarity to me seems a little better, perhaps from eyes being closer to lens. I suppose it gives a little better FOV, however I am handicapped on the eyesight side of things regarding FOV and likely would not notice it like someone with full vision might. Ok so after this initial three hours, I am very pleased with it. The fit on the Reverb G2 was perfect, foam attaches to shell nicely and easily , and the shell attaches to headset same as the original via magnets. All very nice. I will say while I find the comfort very nice, I suspect to some it may feel warm depending on ambient room temp. I keep my gaming room very cool like 72f so it did not bother me nor make me sweat. Warmer ambient room temp though for someone prone to sweating they may find themselves sweating after having it on for a length of time. I will see how I feel after a few days of use , but right now I am pretty pleased with this and would much rather use it than the original one that came with the G2. 2 Don B EVGA Z390 Dark MB | i9 9900k CPU @ 5.1 GHz | Gigabyte 4090 OC | 64 GB Corsair Vengeance 3200 MHz CL16 | Corsair H150i Pro Cooler |Virpil CM3 Stick w/ Alpha Prime Grip 200mm ext| Virpil CM3 Throttle | VPC Rotor TCS Base w/ Alpha-L Grip| Point Control V2|Varjo Aero|
unlikely_spider Posted March 9, 2021 Posted March 9, 2021 (edited) Do you find the leather-type material itself to be as comfortable as the cloth-type factory gasket? The comfort is one of my favorite things about the G2 (having had the Samsung Odyssey before). But I don't know how to clean the default one and am afraid that it will become funky after a couple more months. So for that reason an easier-to-clean solution is of interest to me. Especially once we can have company over to our homes again. Edit - and to confirm, this comes with the plastic part, correct? Again though I will mention, my impression is it may be a little warmer after some time than the stock one. If that bothers someone will be up to the individual and possibly their ambient room temp. The instructions say to clean with a damp cloth so should be easy I guess. Yes it comes with everything you need. IMHO a real bargain for the price. ShaunX Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 Thanks for the tip, available in the UK now so have just placed an order for the G2 version. If nothing else it will be nice to have an alternate to the original and an option for a closer fit. I do have prescription lenses fitted to my G2 so not sure if I'll get away with the closer fitting version. dburne Posted March 13, 2021 Author Posted March 13, 2021 Yeah I can say now after 4 days of heavy use, I certainly would not want to go back to original faceplate. DavidE Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Mine was shipped on 11th March and arrived this morning (UK), no updates from Deutsche Post until it was transferred to the Royal Mail, they are taking longer than usual, but it should arrive soon. Have been chasing VR covers and they have been very quick and efficient in responding to any emails. Yet to try the covers, I have VR optician inserts so will be interest to see how they combine

I guess it's stuck in a container in Calais or Dover as we reep the benefits of Brexit ..literally 30 minutes after I posted the above my VR Cover was delivered ! I guess they must have heard me Took less than a minute to set up and try. The good news is that the thinner pad works with my prescription lenses fitted in my G2. I had to loosen the strap a little to stop my eyelashes touching, but I'd had it pretty tight trying to maximise the FOV so no problem. Very comfortable and definately a slight increase in FOV and maybe even sweet spot. Very happy and will try over a few days. imacken Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 Got mine a couple of days ago. Nice kit with increased FOV and no light leakage. Personally though, I don’t like the leather material as much as the original foam fabric. Can get quite sticky in a long session. still, highly recommended. zildac Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 Agreed, had mine for just over a week and the FOV (although slight) increase is nice, it's comfy, well made but yes can get a little sticky 14900KS | Maximus Hero Z690 | ASUS 4090 TUF OC | 64GB DDR5 6600 | DCS on 2TB NVMe | WarBRD+Warthog Stick | CM3 | TM TPR's | Varjo Aero
ShaunX Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 I'm definately more conscious of the leather material on my face than the foam but it's still very wearable. Now that I have a second insert however, complete with its velcro fittings, I guess if I were inclined, it would be pretty easy to buy a sheet of decent foam fabric, back it with velcro sheet and cut a stack of replacements to fit the insert RYZEN 5900X | 32GB | ASUS Strix RTX3090 | 500GB NVMe OS 1000GB NVMe DCS | Warthog HOTAS | HP Reverb G2 | VA & ViacomPRO My DCS Apps: Radio KAOS for DCS KB Quick - Quick and Easy Kneeboards
shu77 Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 In a hot climate the leather material is defiantly better than the foam, nothing worse than the foam getting damp to the touch. captainHelmet Posted April 7, 2021 Posted April 7, 2021 I finally got around to trying out my VR cover. I have the stock gasket, the 3dWard printed gasket from ebay, and now the vr cover. I found the stock gasket to pinch the sides of my head way too much. I had to clamp the thing to my face to get my eyes anywhere near the lenses, and even still it was like looking through a snorkel mask. I didn't have sweet spot issues but it greatly limited the fov. I found the soft material of the pad very comfortable. The 3dward gasket is much more comfortable for me; it doesn't pinch my face at all on the sides and I don't feel like I'm going to break the plastic strap of the G2 clamping it to my face like I did with the stock gasket. I bought the 3 pack of Vive pro pads (you may want to use the non pro vive pads that are wider on the sides) off of amazon to go with it and had to use the thickest one. It puts my face VERY close to the lenses, too close with the thinner pads. Being that close to the lenses has it's positives and negatives. The feeling of looking through a snorkel mask is gone, and replaced by the feeling of standing so close to a movie screen that your nose touches it. The fov is greatly improved. It's just a night and day difference. The sweet spot is great but there is more visible chromatic aberration at the vertical extremes, specifically a green offset. You can also perceive the square edges of the lenses, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The VRcover gasket improves fov slightly and reduces the snorkel feeling, but not much as the 3dward gasket. I also don't think it was wider than the stock gasket so I felt like I was going back to having the sides of my face squeezed. If you don't have an issue with the stock gasket pinching your face the VRCover could be a nice, modest upgrade. You'll get a little bit more fov, but not so much that it starts introducing more distortion. If you want the most fov at all costs, this probably isn't for you. So what did I end up using? I like the 3dward printed gasket, but with the thicker pad from the VRcover. The thicker pad helps alleviate some of the issues that arise from being closer to the screens than HP intended, but not so much that you start getting back to the snorkel look. I didn't have nose light leak issues with any of the gaskets.
