AFAIK they hope to release the huge (600 pages(?)) manual printed that we can buy seperate.. :)

If they do, I'll definetly buy it!

OK but if they give it free with the game people will buy the game instead of copying it - steal it... Falcon 4.0: Allied Force did this and succeeded...Thats my concern...

The manual would also increase the price of the game, therefore some people could not afford it. A good alternative would be, in my opinion, to sell the manual separately and give a discount to those who have registered their DCS: Black Shark games online with their unique serial key. Of course I would love to have a big physical manual in the game box but I don't think many people would pay 80 euros for it if all they want is just the game.

The best idea so far!!!

That's why it's better to just buy the game from a store than download it. Always useful to have the cd around :)

And including a manual is just too expensive, let alone the 600+ pages with BS.

I would like to see a copy protection that would turn your chopper into a seagull if it's pirated, like arma and that with starforce combined so that it would just explode your computer if its an illegal copy :)

I don't really care if call of dutys and every other “play once and forget“ -type of games are pirated, but simulations are much more than just games and can be played over and over again without much boredom. So if they have replay value, they must be bought.

Maybe a copy protection like steelbeasts could be implemented at some point? It has a little USB stick that comes with the black box with a big manual :) Leave the manual out of it and the price might not increase too much..

Not everybody is interested in the finer (600 page) details of the game (yes, it's a game). It would be a waste of trees and carbon-dioxide. Let people choose whether they want a printed manual or not.

Throwing in a huge printed manual for "free" (as in: included in the price) is probably not going to increase sales, and would increase the price for everyone.

So you see dead people as well?!? ;)

thanks God, not yet ...

I hate starforce... Its like you buy a game to rent... Its totally stupid...

Get a CD copy

well then...give us the release date. :D

No can do (confidential)

That has been cracked a long time ago.

Dr. Mitsos,

Including a 600 page manual is not and never going to stop a cheapskate from buying pirated software. Death penalty can't even stop people from selling crack in my country because a person just don't think he/she is ever going to get caught.

The only effective tool of fighting software piracy to date is FREEWARE...and Steelbeasts and some other obscured games.

i disagree, a good value for money along with a product that keeps you glued to it is the best policy. ofcourse some people will try and some will manage to play for free, but in general the SIM community is the most (or at least i think so) dedicated one. Simulators are a game that went almost extinct and simheads know this. for me a far better policy is to apeal to the hearts of all sim heads and say the obvious: if it doesnt work again to bring life to this genter we have no idea when and if it will have a next breath. there is also a treand that says: play for free by your self but the game is online, for online you should use our server to login and so pay! this is also far better that any CP that reminds sad days of SF or what ever!

i really hope BS will really kickstart everything and we will see in future high quality sims.

What do you mean by that? DCS should have no singleplayer modes at all or that the singleplayer modes should be made really boring and simple? Or do you perhaps mean that the multiplayer part of DCS should be really awesome?

Yes the old one has been, but I meant the Pro PE. That hasn't been cracked and what a good thing it is :)

what i mean is that once i played starcraft 1, warhammer 40k, unreal, CS, lockon, IL2FB, BF or what ever game i tried online there was really no reason at all to play offline. going against other humans makes a game 100 times better for me at least.

for example, in offline mode a player can just play missions (single, fast or static campain) and should get online to access his ongoing dynamic game profile.

so this means that ok, people can cheat to get the game and see it (like a demo) but to have the full expirience they should be registered!.

P.S. i also hope there will not be any need to keep DVD in to play.

I seriously doubt that the USB dongle itself is the reason why the game has not been cracked. Steel Beasts Pro PE can only be bought from their website, it costs 125 USD and it is a simulator so it's no wonder it hasn't been cracked. If the protection method really is that powerful, why hasn't anyone else used it?

In my opinion playing online should not require a registered game (in other words there should be an ability to connect directly to a server by entering the IP address of the server or an ability to play LAN games without Internet connection). Instead what should require a registered game is server browsing, online flight statistics etc. This is nothing unusual and most games use this method but recently some games have restricted players' options by not including the ability to connect directly to a server by IP and disabling the LAN mode (Gears of War to some extent, Diablo 3). IMO the game should be the same regardless of whether the player has registered his/her copy or not. The only thing that should change is how convenient it is to play the game, for example if the game is not registered, it should require a DVD in drive in order to play, otherwise one could play without a disc in drive.

Trackmania United Forever is a good example of this ideology: It lets you make a copy of the dvd, it lets you play without a disc in drive, it requires a serial key but it doesn't require internet connection. In other words you can play it in LAN or alone even if you aren't connected to the Internet without any restrictions (well there are couple of tracks that can be unlocked only by playing online, at least that is the case in Nations Forever) but it gets much, much more fun in online where there are dozens of people in one server competing each other.

Of course Trackmania is a totally different kind of game compared to Black Shark but it shows that if the multiplayer is well designed, people want to play it even if the singleplayer/LAN isn't gimped down.

No I meant dongle itself has been cracked. There are applications, i can't recall what they were, that use dongle as protection and they were cracked.

I wasn't talking about dedicated simmers -- it's a given that we would pay to have BS. I was talking about people who buy pirated games. Most of the people here buy pirated games, movies, etc. because they can't afford the sticker price. Plus they have absolutely no moral value. Most Thais in this country are like that and I assume it's true for most people growing up in a third world country the world over.

Having said that, I've seen people who dressed well, and probably well educated, bought big bags full of pirated movies. So this isn't necessarily a poor thing.

So it comes down the sheer volume of games, movies, applications you can have for only x amount of money.

-VoIP comms for multiplayer, the transmissions of which are calculated in real time just like AI comms and depend on line of sight etc.

A more simple alternative to this could be to provide a Lua function that tests if conditions for clear communications between two players are met (i.e. same frequency, line of sight, distance and whatever else is taken into account, just like between player and AI as it has been explained on the Ka-50 page) and returns true or false respectively. This way someone could write a tool using the Teamspeak SDK which mutes a player as long as communicating with him is impossible.

1) Not sure if this has already been announced or what, but something I would really want, would be an arcade style HUD option. Where it removes the cockpit, and just superimposes some basic HUD elements on the screen so you can see out of the front nice and clear, and yet there is enough info to keep you comfortably flying. Ideally, I would like it all done really tidy and neat, even if it was unrealistic. Something like this for example:

arcadehudov0.jpg

2) I also would love there to be plenty of ships to blow up. I always thought it was very satisfying to see a big slow ship bobbing up and down in the ocean, and I launch my hellfire or harpoon missile or whatever, and it blows open a massive hole in the side of the ship and the ship rolls over in the ocean and sinks on its side, and I can see smoke pouring into the sky from miles away, and then it sinks.

2.5) I really would like there to be a specific key for following my missiles/bomb. Not like LockOn where it automatically forces you to follow the missile or not. So instead I could fire a missile at a tank, and watch it out my cockpit disappearing into the distance. And then a few moments later, I can hit F9 or something and switch to a missile view and watch just as it ploughs into the side of the tank. Then I can hit F1 again and go straight back to the cockpit.

3) I also hope there can be lots of hills and mountains in some locations. So I can be a bit gung ho and if anyone fires a missile at me, I can nip behind a hill and then wait for it to pass, and then pop around the other side and blow up a few things. Like peek-a-boo with a hill.

4) Interesting, fun and exciting missions: Things like blowing up a power station. Or blowing up a bridge to stop enemies from crossing it. Blowing up a moving limousine. Blowing up a church that was housing terrorists or a military leader.

5) I hope there is a lot of customisation with the game rules. So I could have an arcade mode so I don't have to find switches in the cockpit. I would want T or TAB to go through targets on my screen, then space bar to fire my cannon, and Enter/Return to fire my missiles/bombs. But at the same time I would still like there to be some realism with the way the chopper handles, and I would want to take realistic damage etc. So in other words, I hope there is not just an Arcade Mode and a Simulation Mode with not much freedom in between.

6) Related to number 4 above. I really hope there is some 'game' amongst all this super simulation realism. I love games like Apache/Havoc or Falcon3?, where it would have a dynamic campaign and if I went on a mission and destroyed everything like a hero, then came back and refuelled and then went back out and cleaned up any fleeing enemies.. I really want to come home and get a medal, have a little ceremony or something, and then that affects the remainder of the campaign in some way. Perhaps the allies would have more land and I would have access to an extra FARP on the front lines or something. I basically just would really like it to be a bit more of a game type experience where I play the role of a hero pilot. Not just a simulation where you have an objective to blow up a SAM and you either succeed or fail.

7) I would love at some point there to be an area with a big valley like the Grand Canyon, and I have to chase a chopper down it. High speed, turning through the twisty canyon firing my missiles and cannon.

I love interesting geographical locations. An allied base surrounded by hills and mountains that looks nice and safe, and yet right on the other side of the hill is an enemy base, etc. Although I think Lock On had some nice locations like that, so hopefully this game will too.
