-Relax- Posted March 22, 2021 Posted March 22, 2021 Hey, long time not played this game. I think back in the time i played last you could not play with friends together multiplayer if you not have same version. So i had to install 2.5 Stable and 2.5 Beta if i want to play with people who have one or the other. Also i think the servers in multiplayer was seperated. Now i could join with a friend on the same server while he played with the BETA and me with the STABLE. Is it normal like that now, or maybe the beta just have the same status like the stable at the moment or something like that? I not tested a lot but i had the feeling the stable was a little smoother but i can be wrong. I just would like to know if its worth to have both installed or if its not necessary anymore. Do you think it´s better to have the Beta installed or the stable? i though the Beta is more buggy and stuff like this, but now it seems all play just only the Beta anymore? How you guys do? thx and greets

Yeah, stable and beta have the same version right now -> MP compatible everytime this happens. rayrayblues Posted March 25, 2021 Posted March 25, 2021 I used to keep a stable version along side of my Beta, but the space required (over 100 Gb each) and ED's policy of releasing new stuff only to beta has made me come to the realization that I don't really need the stable anymore. Stable still has bugs as well as Beta. The bugs in Beta don't really "bug" me. (pun intended) Having an extra 100+ Gb's available on my drive means I can buy more cool stuff when it comes out, also I can play with my new toys right away, so Beta is the way to go for me. I dumped my stable 8 months ago and I don't miss it. SLAVA UKRAINI MoBo - ASUS 990FX R2 Sabertooth, CPU - AMD FX 9590 @4.7Gb. unknown Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 (edited) There is also always the possibility to switch your stable version to the OB version and back again to the stable version via command line or skatezillas tool, so no need for two seperate installations with nearly the same files. But i have to agree, using OB for many years now with only one or two times it had major problems. Mars Exulte Posted March 26, 2021 Posted March 26, 2021 Yeah, you don't need two installs. You can switch back and forth between versions in a few minutes usually, cause the changes aren't so big most times. And yes, beta eventually becomes stable. That's the whole point, it's just to test changes, then it goes to the main branch. So they overlap quite a bit. 1 Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2
darkman222 Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 So you guys are saying that OB and stable will be compatible in MP all the time, also while one version gets an update and the other still needs to wait for an update? Its really just a waste of hard disk space then. Just go with OB or Stable, how you prefer, right?
draconus Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 No, OB and stable/release are only MP compatible when they are both the same version. 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria

Take a look at this page, which shows the current version of both branches: https://updates.digitalcombatsimulator.com/ Currently both branches (Open Beta and Stable) run on the same version (2.5.6.61527.3). This will change today though as the Open Beta will be updated to 2.7 later today (if everything goes as planned). So tomorrow Stable and Open Beta users will not be able to play together anymore until the Stable branch will be updated as well which will probably take some weeks at least. darkman222 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 (edited) Got it. Thanks for clarification. So that means the MP server running OB or stable dictates if I can join or not too? If my version differs from the server, will I be rejected then, right? ...and looking forward to update to 2.7 soon Edited April 14, 2021 by darkman222
draconus Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 (edited) Yes. Server and client version have to match but you simply won't see it on the list. Edited April 14, 2021 by draconus 1 Win10 i7-10700KF 32GB RTX4070S Quest 3 T16000M VPC CDT-VMAX TFRP FC3 F-14A/B F-15E CA SC NTTR PG Syria
