Tested in latest 2.7.0.5118 Open Beta, though I recall it seemed to be an issue in earlier versions as well.

 

Turning on the oil dilution switch doesn't seem to have any effect in our P-47s.

 

Tested it in a mission where I was starting the engine in chilly conditions in Tonopah airbase, revving up to about 1200 RPM and measuring time it took (from the beginning of the mission) for the oil to warm up to about 30 degrees and the pressure to drop to the upper red line.

 

No matter if oil dilution switch was on or off, the time was the same (about 5 min 40 sec).

 

For comparison I tried the same in P-51D. Without oil dilution the pressure dropped to the redline in about 4 min 25 sec. With oil dilution it did the same in about 2 min 30 sec.

Oil Dilution was to be used at previous shutdown for known low temps for next startup.

This was the warm oil will mix with injected fuel faster.

Cold oil is like a sludge, hence why it takes a long time to UN-thicken after startup without previous mission Dilution injection.

Maybe it is modeled the proper way of operation

Oil dilution could be done prior shut down but also could be done after start up. We definitely should get option to have oil being pre-diluted so we can start up engines in very cold weather in saffely manner but also we should get working oil dilution after start up.

Oil dilution prior shut down was used to make cold start up possible in cold weather. Oil dilution after start up was used to omit long engine warming before take off.

It doesn't seem to work in the Spitfire also.
