ddocg Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Agreed about the sticky idea. @ in no particular order Acedy, Skooby, Maddog011, Koriel and Blacksharkace. Thanks guys, after following your posts, I now, finally have my two monitors working how I want - with the exception of having to swap the display mapping in CCC each time, even at boot the OS defaults to the smaller monitor hmmmm, however, I have it working and that's all that matters  dAVE Dave Intel Core i7 4770K i30 cooler Win 7 Pro 64bit Kingston SSDNOW V300 SATA III 240GB OS Drive Kingston SSDNOW V300 SATA III 120GB DCSW Dedicated Drive ASUS Radeon R9 290 ASUS Z87-K Corsair 16GB DDR3 Vengeance Jet Black 1600mhz Corsair AX860i PSU Thermaltake Chaser A71 Case Acer S271HL 27 inch monitor 1No 8" lilliput touch screen, running uMFCD TM HOTAS Cougar with TUSBA TM Cougar Stick Simped F16 C with RUSBA Track IR5

MidSilence Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Cool! That's exactly what I want to do (22" and 15" both wide). Thanks! But one question: Can you resize the Shkval to use all the half free space of the monitor like ABRIS does? Is this difficult?
Mxyzpylk Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Cool! That's exactly what I want to do (22" and 15" both wide). Thanks! But one question: Can you resize the Shkval to use all the half free space of the monitor like ABRIS does? Is this difficult? You could, but, you really wouldn't want to. You need to maintain the aspect ratio of the Shkval. You could make it a little bigger but, making it really tall would distort the picture too much.
MidSilence Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Maybe using only the 15" monitor vertically (driver feature) and using Shkval/ABRIS in top/bottom format could solve this. I don't know if this is possible on ATI/NVidia. Have anyone tried?

I don't know if this is possible on ATI/NVidia. Have anyone tried? You can position both, anywhere you like, however, for both it is still an aspect issue, the ABRIS IMO is not suited to a vertical split. Not sure if you can split just one monitor in a two monitor setup? as I understand it, the driver feature you speak of, stretches the desktop over two monitors, after which, you apply either horizontal or vertical split. I don't have NV but this is how it works on ATI, for me at least. Hobnail Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Sorry if I'm missing something but: I have an Nvidia 7900GT, should I be setting "dualview" or desktop span to make this work? At the moment if I use dualview (which allows for native res on my 22"wide and 15"), the 22" is left and the 15 is right. BUT the virtual BS window seems to put my 22" in the middle of that window (even though x = 0 for that screen) and I lose half my cockpit view offscreen to the left. This has meant I had to run a options.lua res higher than 2x1680 and use something like x=800 to bring the main camera back into frame... Help?
TheMoose Posted December 23, 2008 Posted December 23, 2008 Hi Guys, I have a special request, I dusted out my old CRT 17 inches Samsung 950b, I enable the dual monitor feature, have it setup as a left side desktop extension. My main 22 inch monitor will be used as main display. Here’s the resolution that I’m using. My main monitor Samsumg 22” resolution in game of 1920x1200 aspect 16:10 fullscreen disable. My CRT is setup with native resolution of 1280x1024. I’m really a big noob when it comes to LUA scripting, can anyone build me a config to have my CRT show up the ABRIS and Shykval TV? That would be greatly appreciated. By the way I’m using the English download version of BS with an Nvidia GTX 280. Thanks in advance. JaBoG32_Prinzartus Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 As you are trying to combine two monitors of different resolution and even worse, of different ratios (16:10 vs 4:3), I doubt that you will be able to run FULL resolution on main 22" + FULL resolution on second screen unless you can "span desktop" with Nvidia, (my ATI can't) or, you use "Windowed Mode" which on the other hand eats half of my frames. But that's my experience. Please let me know, if you manage to display Shkval and / or ABRIS properly on the second moitor. Hi Guys, I have a special request, I dusted out my old CRT 17 inches Samsung 950b, I enable the dual monitor feature, have it setup as a left side desktop extension. My main 22 inch monitor will be used as main display. So start getting a "streched Desktop" over both Screens where you can have the taskbar streched over both screens. If that works, you'll have to read and experiment with the LUA fiiles. You'll find help in the "multi monitor picture request" thread and maybe even others. Here’s the resolution that I’m using. Kurtz Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 With "snapview 2" bound to my X52pro I can get 22" wide on ABRIS/SHKVAL with a button push. Its as simple as going into a hover or bleeding some speed and select route mode, or just coasting, then go heads down, Try it :) LWIN+NUM7
Amraam Posted December 24, 2008 Posted December 24, 2008 Hi all, I'm having trouble getting this to work with Vista. Here's what I've done: I too have a 17" 4:3 screen on the left, and a 24" 16:10 screen on the right. I want to do exactly what you did in your tutotial, except the vertical distance in pixels is 400 for me. This is my options.lua: ["graphics"] = { ["multiMonitorSetup"] = "2monitortest", ["color"] = "32", ["heatBlr"] = 1, ["scenes"] = "high", ["water"] = 1, ["fullScreen"] = true, ["visibRange"] = "Medium", ["aspect"] = 1.6, ["textures"] = 2, ["shadows"] = 3, ["display_mode"] = { ["avi"] = { ["bpp"] = 32, ["resolution"] = "640x480", ["full_screen"] = false, ["aspect"] = 1.333333333, ["height"] = 480, ["width"] = 640, }, -- end of ["avi"] }, -- end of ["display_mode"] ["effects"] = 3, ["lights"] = 2, ["haze"] = 1, ["terrPrld"] = "20", ["height"] = 2000, ["resolution"] = "2000x4480", ["civTraffic"] = 1, ["width"] = 4480, }, -- end of ["graphics"] } -- end of optionsI derived 2000 by doubling 400 and adding it to 1200. And this is my 2MonitorTest.lua: Description = '2MonitorTest' Viewports = { Center = { x = 1280; y = 400; width = 1920; height = 1200; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 16/10; } } Shkval = { x = 0; y = 976; width = 1280; height = 1024; }I then load up DCS, see that resolution is at 2000x4480 as it should be, and choose 2MonitorTest from the drop down. However, when I try to load a mission, it crashes. I did not compensate for the start menu. Should I consider that also? Would mine 30px as it is only a single line? I'm using Vista, it should still work right? Or do I have to run in span mode? Thanks, your help is very much appreciated! Murphyd Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 (edited) Harry, Try running in Window mode. Not sure why but a lot of multi-monitor setup's cause BS to crash on start-up (and when taking screenshots) when configured for full screen. P.S. Your numbers don't make a lot of sense to me, especially those in your Options.lua file. For example, "resolution" set to "2000x4480" but then contradicting it with "width" set to 4480. Assuming you have a 1280x1024 monitor as your leftmost display and a 1920x1200 monitor as your "center" or "main" display, I'd imagine numbers more in line with: options.lua ... ["height"] = 1200; ["resolution"]= "3200x1200"; ["width"] = 3200; 2MonitorTest.lua Description = 'Test' Viewports = { Center = { x = 1280; y = 0; width = 1920; height = 1200; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = 16/10; } } Shkval = { x = 0; y = 0; width = 1280; height = 1024; } -- Murphy Edited December 25, 2008 by Murphyd
Fishu Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 Thanks for the instructions in this thread to set up different screens :) Today I was wondering how nice it'd be to have a small screen below my main monitor for Shkval, so I wouldn't have to look to the sides for it, but a bit more realistically downwards to it (not to mention that the cockpit view stays forward with TIR). Then I figured out that I have Asus EEE PC 901 to test with, which seems to have just a nicely sized screen for Shkval. Setup with minilaptop I think I'll turn to use it's keyboard for those few functions that I haven't mapped to the HOTAS. Smaller keyboard is better for one hand.
TheShineNSB Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I have the game functioning perfectly with the cockpit on my left monitor, and Shkval and ABRIS on the right. However, the GUI itself is centered in the middle of the "screens", making it rather awkward to use. For example, half of the Instant Action button is on one monitor, and half on the other. Is there a way to force the GUI onto one monitor or another while running dual monitors? I'd rather not have to switch back to DualView just to use the GUI. WinXP SP3, nVidia 8800 GTS.

Have you set the display to extend to both monitors, where the task bar stretches across both monitors. If so, I believe you can just drag the GUI window onto the main monitor and center. I may be wrong but when I tested Win XP I did something similar.

Cloudman Posted December 26, 2008 Posted December 26, 2008 I was trying the same thing but the Holidays delayed my experimentation. A member here has offered to help me. I'm running the game full-screen, so I can't drag the GUI. Is there a tweak somewhere that runs the GUI in a window while the main game is still full-screen? Do any other multi-monitor XP 32-bit SP3 users have this problem? Edit: Fixed. It anyone else has this issue, PM me. I'd detail how I fixed it, but I kind of stumbled across it after experimenting, and I'm too tired to retrace the steps in detail. Basically I forced the GUI to always be windowed, and always have 1/2 the horizontal resolution of the desktop. Edited December 27, 2008 by TheShineNSB

For the SP GUI see my post #173 above: Additionally, I have found a workaround for the stretched single player GUI. Since the GUI and game engine are now separated entities, I thought there must be a switch somewhere which allows you to set a different resolution for the GUI than for the Sim and also start the GUI in window mode, while the Sim itself runs in fullscreen, and indeed there is. Backup the ...\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\BlackShark\BlackShark.lua file and open it with Notepad++. Scroll down to line 195 and insert these lines (with your own values): main_w = 1024; main_h = 768; fullscreen = false; After that it should look like this: ... if fullscreen then main_w = screen_w; main_h = screen_h; end; main_w = 1024; main_h = 768; fullscreen = false; Gui.SetIcon(themesPath .. 'main/images/BS-icon-2_32.bmp') ... The values specify the width and height of the GUI window, so just replace the values with your preferred settings (in order to see the full window choose values that are somewhat smaller than the resolution of your preferred working screen). Also set fullscreen to false so that you can drag the GUI to that screen. Inserting these lines will override the settings from the options screen, but only for the GUI, the resoultion and full screen setting as they are displayed in the options will still be valid for the game engine. Unfortunately this works only for the single player GUI, I haven't found the switch for the multiplayer GUI yet.
