Sr. Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 (edited) This is actually working. Long story short, it allows you (me anyway) to run SteamVR SS at 100 and MSAA 4x with no frametime loss. https://forums.mudspike.com/t/openvr-fsr/12743 borrowed from another poster Quote Here are the no nonsense EASY instructions. It's a must. Download the ZIP file from here. https://github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr/releases Go to your DCS folder and into BIN Find "openvr_api.dll". Rename it to "openvr_api.orig.dll" Extract the ZIP files from the above download. Copy and Paste those files into the DCS/BIN folder. My current config file: { "fsr": { // enable AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution "enabled": true, // Per-dimension render scale. If <1, will lower the game's render resolution // accordingly and afterwards upscale to the "native" resolution set in SteamVR. // If >1, the game will render at its "native" resolution, and afterwards the // image is upscaled to a higher resolution as per the given value. // If =1, effectively disables upsampling, but you'll still get the sharpening stage. // AMD presets: // Ultra Quality => 0.77 // Quality => 0.67 // Balanced => 0.59 // Performance => 0.50 "renderScale": 0.75, // tune sharpness "sharpness": 0.75 } } Worth a look Edited July 8, 2021 by Sr. Ryzen 7 5800X3D | 64GB DDR4 3600| MSI RTX 4080 16GB Ventus 3X OC | Samsung 970 Evo 2TB NVME | Quest 3 | Logitech X-56 throttle | VKB NXT Premium | Win 11 "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." --Arthur C Clark

I WANT this to work really bad. haha Had some more time to do better comparisons today. I think you're right about the shimmering. And while it was nice to be able to run 4x MSAA, it's kind of a trade off. Going back to stock for now. Gun Jam Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 I gave this a try and was unhappy with anything under 1.0. using 1.0 reduced shimmer and let me run my G2 at 100% SS in steam. Things were for sure sharper but they were over sharp and it started to generate ISO noise in the image. Using 4xMSAA and 100% SS gave what I would consider a good improvement in overall quality but caused too much loss in frame time I was down about 10fps with a 2080ti when close to ground. Between the loss 10fps and the iso noise (over sharpened) I went back to using just the VR shader mod, 70% SS no MSAA. This is almost a win in my case.
Baldrick33 Posted July 14, 2021 Posted July 14, 2021 I didn't see any real improvement using this. I tried lots of settings but the loss in quality and gain in performance seemed similar to simply reducing the SteamVR SS. zildac Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 I must be doing something wrong because with this enabled and reshade obviously disabled the shimmering and aliasing is awful (Caucasus ready on the ramp). If I look to my right at the other F18 parked on the apron it's wobbly mess I’ve tried with MSAA OFF and set to my normal 2x. It's working as the log file looks good, but it looks horrendous. 14900KS | Maximus Hero Z690 | ASUS 4090 TUF OC | 64GB DDR5 6600 | DCS on 2TB NVMe | WarBRD+Warthog Stick | CM3 | TM TPR's | Varjo Aero
RealDCSpilot Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 @zildac No worries, you're not doing something wrong. I'm on the same boat, tested it again and again. speed-of-heat Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 hmm not sure what to say, the shimmer is "the same" for me with the mod on or off, the reshade mod and this do not play nicely together and with them both on it has more shimmer than a hula-hoop dancer... zildac Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 (edited) Yeah it's strange, it almost looks as though the res has been dropped and all antialiasing turned off. I'll have a root around to check that there isn't some remnant of a previous mod, I already did a "long" repair. I am using Bartheks Caucasus but that shouldn't affect the actual aircraft model "shimmers" Edited July 17, 2021 by zildac 14900KS | Maximus Hero Z690 | ASUS 4090 TUF OC | 64GB DDR5 6600 | DCS on 2TB NVMe | WarBRD+Warthog Stick | CM3 | TM TPR's | Varjo Aero
