Cerulean Posted July 20, 2021 Posted July 20, 2021 I am having real problems with the AGM-65D when paired with a TGP. I have to get so close to successfully transfer a lock from the TGP to the AGM-65D that I might as well drop the TGP most of the time. I mostly fly the A10C and FA-18. Their AGMs seem to lock much more reliably. I am wondering, am I doing something wrong with the F-16's AGM-65Ds (maybe need to develop better technique) or do the locking problems reflect a lack of development?

Marklar Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 Start in the air when mavs are already bore-sighted and used them as before. I bet they will lock without a problem. i9 13900K; RTX 4090, 64GB RAM. Reverb G2; VPC MongoosT-50CM3, VPC WarBRD Base with VPC Constellation ALPHA stick, MFG Crosswind V3
TOViper Posted July 22, 2021 Posted July 22, 2021 (edited) Today I started cold. I boresighted all Mavericks before take-off, but in flight I wasn't able to get a lock by the Maverick. The handover from TGP to the weapon DID work and it placed the seeker head on target, but I wasn't able to deliver the weapon. Instead, I had to switch to the WPN page, press TMS up once more, then the lock was active (vibrating lines), and only THEN I was able to deliver the weapon on target. Distance to target was far below 5 miles. Was in MP, so I have no track. Frederf Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 MP will save a track in a separate folder \Tracks\Multiplayer but of course they tend to be much longer and larger than dedicated bug tracks. If you can replicate this handoff which doesn't result in ability to fire missile again it will be good to share such a track. I've never had an instance of handoff complete but inability to fire. Requiring WPN SOI and additional designate suggests the handoff didn't happen normally.
TOViper Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 (edited) Here we go. The TMSup for enabling POINT track right on target didn't make the AGM65D seeker head to aquire the target. I tried firing the weapon, bit without luck. A few seconds later I manually switched to the WPN page, and pressed TMSup again. Only then it was possible to deliver the weapon. The only way seems to be using the AUTO mode of the TGP. In MAN mode it doesn't work. This at least is written in the manual (finally I found the correct page). For me this is solved. 2021-07-23_F-16_TGP_not_locking_AGM65D.trk Edited July 23, 2021 by TOViper Visit https://www.viggen.training ...Viggen... what more can you ask for? my computer: AMD Ryzen 5600G 4.4 GHz | NVIDIA RTX 3080 10GB | 32 GB 3.2 GHz DDR4 DUAL | SSD 980 256 GB SYS + SSD 2TB DCS | TM Warthog Stick + Throttle + TRP | Rift CV1
Frederf Posted July 23, 2021 Posted July 23, 2021 No Yes You're looking for the "C" over the 3/7 number. You only had a "T" because handoff didn't complete because TGP wasn't in AUTO. This is also a bug in DCS where TGP acquisition mode MAN/AUTO determines if handoff fails/works. In reality this was an experimental feature of the TGP which had nothing to do with missile handoff. But in DCS missile handoff only works with "AUTO" option.
Machalot Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 @Frederf What is the real life difference between auto and manual? "Subsonic is below Mach 1, supersonic is up to Mach 5. Above Mach 5 is hypersonic. And reentry from space, well, that's like Mach a lot."
Frederf Posted July 24, 2021 Posted July 24, 2021 "As far as the access of the MAN and AUTO target acquisition modes ,I'm pretty sure it exists only on the LANTRIN and on the early version of the SNIPER, where it has been replaced by the IR pointer. The display initializes in the MAN mode whenever the A-G or A-A mode is selected. The AUTO mode is a growth function and is currently not functional. Pilots are advised not to select AUTO as it may cause an MFL."

QuiGon Posted July 25, 2021 Posted July 25, 2021 (edited) I don't understand. What's the purpose of MAN mode then (in DCS)? Edited July 25, 2021 by QuiGon Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
