Hi All, after some advice/assistance if possible, as I don't know what I am seeing is correct.

Started to play with guns, and am designating targets with TGP, so setting TGP as SOI, identifying a target and setting it as SPI, then make HUD SOI and select weapons to guns. As I roll in I can see the TGP designating diamond, but as the gunnery reticule aligns with the diamond it 'blanks' out the diamond, so all I see is the reticule and not the point of aim I set up from the TGP.

Is this correct?

AMD Ryzen 5 5600X; ASUS ROG Strix X570-F, Corsair Vengeance 64 GB (2x 32GB) 3600MHz; Seagate FireCuda 510 500GB M.2-2280 (OS); Samsung 860 EVO 2TB M.2-2280 (DCS); MSI GeForce RTX 3090 SUPRIM X 24GB OC GPU. TM Warthog Hotas; T.Flight Pedals; DelanClip/Trackhat.

Yes. By the time you put pipper on target, you should see the thing you're shooting at. The diamond disappears to avoid obscuring the target and cluttering the reticle.

IIRC, under the IFFCC TEST menu, there's an option to allow the gun reticle to occlude (default) or not the other HUD symbology.  I've never changed it, though

Thanks - will check this out. My gunnery is hit and miss (literally) so if I can just align the pipper with a diamond I think I may stand a better chance...

@Leg2ion - you may already know this but when the rounds impact they show as little green dots in the HUD. i have gotten pretty good with the gun. i get all setup with another weapon and something goes haywire and the TGP loses its target lock. so in frustration i run in and give it a few hundred pounds of 30 mikemike.

No luck unfortunately - description is 'CCIP GUN CROSS OCCULT. This allows the option to occult the TVV behind the CCIP gun cross in CCIP mode by selecting YES.' So as far as I can see it is only the TVV that is affected, and not the targeting diamond.

More practice needed.

You can change your JHMCS settings to always show the TGP diamond and/or your SPI. Then if you find them distracting during a gun run you can toggle the HMD off with DMS left long.

Thanks - though my HMCS display disappears when it overlays the HUD looking forward out of the cockpit?

Whereabouts is that setting?

The HMCS Occlusion settings can be found on the STAT page, then HMCS, and then most of the symbols should be self explanatory.

The occlusion zone covers the HUD and the cockpit.

"OCLD" means symbols will be occluded when inside the occlusion zone, "ON" means they're always on, and "OFF" means they're always... off, who woulda guessed? 😄

Legion,

Try max zoom and get closer for better gunnery.  You can also turn on I-Pac for a second or two just prior to firing.  However, I don't usually do that because it is a bit clunky for me.  I end up fighting with the plane if I am not exactly lined up.  I just pull  all the way to fire position with the trigger once I am on target.

Many thanks @Caldera. Have been getting used to head tracking so 'sort of forgot' about the zoom function. I like the gun stab, but I also have issues with target fixation whereby I tend to drive my hog into the target...🤦‍♂️

Gotta love the beast and its nuances! On a different note seen yours and others posts

re the TGP FLIR/optics - TBH I don't have any major issues. If things are a bit unclear I find if I cycle through BHOT/WHOT a few times it sorts itself out, failing that reposition, BS the TGP and re-slave to target, and for the most part all is good.

Cheers!

Dangit, you're right, that's not what you were looking for, sorry

Tips:

  • I generally try to set up my gun runs with an egress route in mind.  I try to find a flight path that has the least ground fire so I don't get so many holes in my aircraft.
  • Stay as fast as I can.
  • Don't hit a tree or the ground.
  • I time my dive so that it is fairly steep, and has become just a feel thing for me.
  • I switch to max zoom after I am lined up and the target is in the HUD.
  • I dive in and line up pretty hard and fast, then I unload the aircraft by removing back pressure on the stick.  Letting the pipper slowly drift towards and over the target works the best.
  • If I am lined up perfectly with the target and diving straight in, then the return fire is also lined up perfectly and coming straight at me.
  • Fly the TVV to the target and then line up the pipper.
  • I don't really try to hold the pipper super steady on the target as I-PAC will do that for me when I shoot.  I just pull the trigger through both switches when the pipper crosses over the target.
  • I generally shoot at a range of 1.0 to 0.5 miles for greatest damage probability.  Give it a squirt or two and notice where ground fire is coming from for my egress.
  • I try to see some detail on the target when I shoot, allot of detail on modern tanks with better armor.
  • Don't get greedy. I only take out multiple targets only if they are pretty close to each other, but it just has become a reaction thing for me sometimes when the opportunity arises and being too greedy has led to allot of mishaps.
  • A rudder push is ideal sometimes to get on a new target very quickly.
  • When I hear "Pull Up" I really think hard about doing just that.
  • Longer squirts for armor and at a closer range, very short squirts and at a longer range for un-armored.
  • Attack tanks from the rear and / or the top.
  • The most important rule I have  -->  Always choose a stand off weapon with more range if possible over guns.  If the target is likely to shoot back.
  • And...   I-PAC is a wonderful thing.

I hope some of this helps.

Kind of OT, but one suggestion is to turn OFF PAC-1 when attacking moving on-road convoys with guns.  That way, if you line up on the road, you can pull the pipper up through the whole convoy while firing and nail several vehicles before they scatter
