I play alot on growling sidewinder which is a pretty crowded server. Everytime a merch or sometimes randomly i get 0 fps. I understand that i dont have the best computer, so i ran the settings on low. A part from 0 fps dogfighting and missile dodging, it runs super smoothly. Any tips/tricks what i can do to avoid 0 fps?

Lower settings

Remove any mods not needed on server

Then unfortunately you’re into upgrading your system. Your RAM is close to min required. Google windows page file and set that to 16Gb

It looks like your system should be fine; 8GB vram is plenty, especially if you're using low settings.

Other things should be lagging your system besides just dogfighting if it is a performance issue. And dogfighting has relatively mild performance requirements. Flying low over Dubai with no aircraft in the server should be a greater performance hog.

Have you tried making your own mission with a bunch of aircraft in it? Does it only happen online? Maybe it's a multiplayer bug with your system. Or maybe you only get into dogfights in places where a lot is happening on the server.

Oh there used to be a flare/chaff bug where the game lags while despawning countermeasures or something, is that still a thing?

By 0 fps you mean what exactly? With my older video card my screen would freeze for a second as the textures loaded in but then would go back to the normal frame rate. Upgrading to 6GB vram fixed that right up for me, and you have 8GB.

Or does 0fps just mean you're getting a slide show when other aircraft get near? Maybe it is server lag?

Maybe your power supply is too  small and the video card is having to throttle itself? But that would affect any game that is a performance hog.

imo your system should give you a good fps at good settings...

Thx for your replies!

Oh btw the game is installed on a HDD (not SSD)

and check your page file size too. Look for a post by bignewy and follow his signature links for performance tips

HDD is an issue for loading in times mainly

By zero fps i mean that system freezes for like 8-12 seconds. This happens in the beginning (everytime i load in the server) and at the merge. I have noticed that the merge lag has happen on alpenwolfs coldwar server. And that is not super crowded, like 20 players. It lag regardless of use of countermeasures or not.

It could well be other things (other software conflict, Antivirus), maybe even combined, but to me that looks to be your problem, right there. 🙂

Micro freezes happen a lot with DCS if it's installed on an HDD. The difference to an installation of the game in a fast SSD is immense, if compared.

I'd even say that the game installation on SSD has been kind of a pre-requisite for quite some time now.

The reason is simple.
DCS uses a gazillion of files, and extremely large sized textures -  4K diffuse maps, normal maps, specular maps, and other whatever maps, and too many of these are enormous 32-bit (not 8-bit like so many of us requested), used on most of the things you see in game. Streaming all that puts a really huge toll on any HDD.

Plus, DCS swaps a lot. Among many other files, most of these huge textures are stored in compressed .ZIP format. The bigger the file size, the longer DCS will take to extract from the respective .ZIP file and then swap.

And it doesn't only do that on the modules you own.  On multiplayer (as is your case), when someone else joins, you have to load his/her textures as well.

Yes, so many things are inefficient in DCS but, unfortunately, it is what it is (and a subject for other topics)... 😕

Such long freezes of 8-12 seconds seem very abnormal (even for an HDD) and, again, it could be something else, but it kinda looks (to me) like an HDD related problem.

You also have 16GB of RAM, which for Multiplayer, in my brief experience, has become a little short (32GB+ RAM and/or a large pagefile size on SSD recommended).

TL.DR: You really, really need the game installed on an SSD.

I have a good PC and confirm there's a lag issue with passing groups of planes (not flying with them, but passing them) and if it lags for mine passing 2-3 guys then slightly older hardware i imagine will lag the same with passing (merging) 1 or 2 guys.... Chatting in the AO server i found many to have this issue, but as so many are having other FPS issues,  i think this one will get burried under those who are lagging all the time for abit. check forums people are full of lag right now. Hopefully our issues will get resolved also, but what I said aside, at some point the hardware for any PC and any new/updated game will need to catch up. I know it costs a fortune right now, but at least things are back in stock, even at a 30% mark-up, its a lot better than 100-200% a few months ago. Peace
