NAVFLIR or IR marker?

So ED, which is it going to be for our ATFLIR?

Right now we have neither, but one or the other should exist. NAVFLIR was a function of the ATFLIR mount + aircraft systems that was functional for a short while, but was replaced/removed in favor of NVGs. IIRC at the same time the ATFLIR platform was upgraded to host an IR maker capability.

Are either of these features planned, or will or ATFLIR be stuck in limbo?

@BIGNEWY Do you just need a reference for the IR marker? NFLIR Hardware in built into the pylon it's just a question of it it would be connected and activated or not.

Hi,

NAVFLIR was never implemented in this version of the Hornet. As for an IR Pointer, we have no public reference documentation of this. If you do have public data please DM me

thank you

Here is a public document show that the NAVFLIR was implemented on the F/A-18C/D starting in 1989. The Navy did stop using them in 2002 according to this as well but the functionality remained. Would be nice to have the functionality. disp_pdf.cfm?DACH_RECNO=381

If you right click it, it should be possible to open in a new tab. It also seems to be a word document.

This document outlines the AN/AAR-50 Thermal Imaging Navigation Set, which is a completely separate system from the ATFLIR.

ATFLIR can do HUD-projected FLIR?

It could when the pods were new, however NVGs came around the same time and they made it obsolete pretty much out of the box. Fleet hornet pilots never trained on it and the controls for it most aircrews have never touched in their whole careers. The little green window on the pylon above the pod itself is where the feed comes from. Idk if they could even been turned on and work properly during the scope of the DCS hornet (in the mid 2000s) as that equipment was not maintained by ground crews either. Not sure about the legacy pods from way back when but for atflir the navflir functionality pretty much wasn't used at all as NVGs do the job a thousand times better. And USN is the only atflir operator.

AFAIK ED has no plans do to the older pods.
