So after having the ability to test VR a while ago I got the urge for VR at home. Specially for the AH-64D coming.

We have a VR setup at work (Gameroom at work to use in our free time, oilrig). It consists of 2080Ti and a Reverb G2. And I have done some tuning using speed-of-heat's settings. Have not done any mods as of yet, but all DCS settings and Steam VR settings are done. Running around 45FPS steady just cruising around in Caucasus map in the SU-25.

One thing that bugs me with the Reverb G2 is the sweetspot. I feel there is almost nothing to go on in the vertical plane when it comes to sweetspot. Yes I can read the instruments, but I feel they get kinda "blurry" very quickly when you move your eyes up/down. I also have a feeling when focusing in the sweetspot that I'm "working" with my eyes to focus. Specially on longer distances. Something that can be adjusted/improved?

I have not bought anything myself yet, but I have heard and watched many youtube clips now about how much better the Quest 2 got with it's increased sharpness with V33. Although it is not quite up there with the G2 in sharpness, the gap is smaller, and it supposedly have a larger sweetspot and larger FOV. Should I maybe wait and see if there is anything else coming to the market soon?

Any advice? Does other cockpits have better visual/sharper textures than the SU-25 in VR? I currently own A-10C II, F/A-18C, Huey, FC and AH-64D (when it comes).

Thank you

My advice: Do nothing now. Next gen hardware will be forthcoming in next few months. Varjo Aero is the first.

Ah yes the old "wait for the next Big Thing"...with that logic you will never get a VR.  😛

My specs:  W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB, monitor: GIGABYTE M32QC 32" (31.5" Viewable) QHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 165Hz.

In this instance a few month's patience might avoid severe case of buyer's remorse.

I did look at quite a few first impressions on the Varjo. From what I can understand it is the new benchmark when it comes to VR for consumers.

Basically better then G2 clarity, with no sweetspot. Big downside was a 1900 euro+tax. And that was without a base station....

It seems several headset companies are moving to micro-oled very high resolution displays for their next release (Sony and likely Valve , to name two) , and a couple are already available (Varjo , Arpara) . I'm considering waiting , even if i have to be VR-less in the interim due to my headset being bricked come Jan 1st .

that investment is too much when it comes to new, quick eveloping technologies. I´d rather spend 400-600 euro every 2 years.

The eyes working is noticeably in VR however they do it all the time only that we don't pay attention to it. Using the eyes to look around is not optimal in VR because of the sweet spot. I got used to these two things and they don't bother me anymore. Especially moving your head when looking somewhere helps. It's good training for getting old and bad eyes... The sweet spot also depends if your head is good for the face mask or if you have it in an optimal position. It took me a while to get the best position. Good graphics settings also help reducing the sweet spot effect.

Appreciate the feedback from all of you.

Just found out I had some giftcards laying around that would basically cut the cost of getting a Quest 2 by 50%... ( Reverb G2 not available ).

Would that be a good "bang for my buck"?? Considering anything new is not expected until next year. And 2000 Euro (Looking at you Aero) for a set is basically out of the question until I actually has a GPU that can justify that kinda headset. And shelling out for a G2 is a little bit on the more expensive side considering the possibility for new sets coming out next year.

Cheers

Get a good used Reverb for 300 bucks and keep your hard-earned bread in your pocket.  Get a 3080ti if you want to spend more money.  If you want a good VR experience, the headset is not the first consideration...the CPU and GPU are.  DCS wants everything you can afford and then some to run VR well.

System spec atm is  5800X, 32GB Ram, SSD M.2 drives, RTX 2080. I just built a new system a few months ago, but held off on the GPU due to stupid prices.
