So is that it now for full screen, all we have is a boarderlees window?

If so whats the best option for a smooth head tracker inputs, I currently use TrackIR5 and wonder if a something like the Tobii eyetracker would be a better experience.

As long as the DCS screen resolution is the same as monitor and it is the borderless window.

only in regards to not having the need for a device stuck to your head*. The tracking itself is not better. Or smoother.

(Which would be a HUGE incentive for me to use it. Unfortunately it is sub par to TrackIR in every other regard. For context - I'm currently actively using both. Albeit Tobii only for MSFS. For DCS I prefer TrackIR)

That stinks, I doubt webcams are any smoother either

That is a rabbit hole we better not enter in this thread here. Wether or not TrackIR is smooth (I happen to think so) or not and what the contributing factors are. The short form answer is the higher the FPS are, the better.

I meant killed the autoexec fix. I had this working reliably for quite some time (in terms of it use EFS) but, after disabling it and full screen mode to play with the 3D mission editor app, it seems to have kaput. Was it one of the recent updates or have I missed something?

Be honest, I do not know the answer.

Still FPS drop issue with the recent DCS release, I realized that autoexec was blocking the new DCS settings, included VSYNC/Full screen and disable hot plug not required in autoexec by clicking button instead... maybe it was happened since few releases back (I saw one of threads mentioned to remove it).

So, I decided to rename autoexec to something since it is obsoleted from my environment (I guess).

I use OpenTrack with a cheap HW solution. It's super smooth. I do feel, that the native TrackIR software has some benefits a saw in comparison between TrackIR and Tolobii.

Hmm. All very confusing. My Windows is locked down since the intital install so has not benefitted from any updates (I saw mention of changes in windows somewhere). I dont feel like undoing it all but I'll kill the autoexe since it seems those halcion days of good stuff working are now long gone.  I think when I get to play DCS proper again it'll be on a new PC with Win 11 so I'll save any machinations for then.

So what can people recommend for the smoothest TrackIR experience possible?

iirc the device runs at 60mhz so anything close to / or multibles of that number helps with things which is why I cap my FPS to 120, I also have the Smooth setting under motion control on the TrackIR UI set to 50, is there anything I can try?

TrackIR runs at 120Hz. Honestly I’ve never noticed any lack of smoothness with it at any frame rate.

Hmm- So whilst theres no Alt-Enter or Alt tab without locks and crashes (never was with the autoexec hack) at least I have what I take to be Full Screen Exclusive working again (by token that the windoes volume bar does not appear when changing levels).

In game = Vysync

In game - Full screen

NCP - Vsync = application controlled

Windows DCS shortcut - disable full screen optimisations (this was the item missing previously) in the compatability tab.

Autoexec "hack" enabled

What Im not grasping is the bit about recent(ish) Windows updates doing away with the need for FSE. Im sure I saw mention of it somewhere.

How do we do it?  If possible to share the contents of autoexec? Thanks.

Its nothing that hasnt been put in this thread before

disable_write_track = true (not part of the "hack" but put in here as every little helps)
dx11backend =
{
    flipMode = false,
}

Vsync on in DCS

Full Screen on in DCS

Vsync = application controlled in the Nvidia Control panel

Disable full screen optimisations ticked in the Compatability Tab of the DCS launch icon Shortcut (desktop)

Added voodoo (out of habit) - click on the DCS 15years window to ensure its focussed in windows on launch (probably not needed)

Note - You CANNOT Alt-Tab as you'll just end up on the desktop with no mouse or keyboard control. So its fine if you just wanna play with DCS in focus all the time but far the useful feature that was taken away.

This is said to help with lag that comes with running in Full-screen Windowed mode.

Note that this will also cause the game to crash if you TAB out\in.

Thanks... I guess that it is my penalty If I forget and tab out.... then...  Nothing is perfect...

I tried it using the method suggested for the windows (non steam shortcut).

It mysteriously activiated the Launcher (that I had de-selected) and asked me to log im. I did. Then on evey attempt to launch the game, its activated the Launcher again.
