Weird. Just checked mine and is still shows...
What'd I break now?

No, mine just looks different as I had an early Insider version going back. It is called OpenXR Tools for Windows Mixed Reality on the Microsoft Store and the current screenshots look like yours.

I have tried uninstalling it and reinstalling. The Store says I have the current version but when I open it I still see the Developer wording. It is all working nicely so I am loathed to mess any more!

I'm a bit confused. Earlier in the topic it is mentioned that SteamVR should be disabled. When I launch DCS from Steam using the "Play DCS World Steam Edition" option, SteamVR always launches. In game however, the OpenXR Toolkit shortcut does work however, which leads me to believe that OpenXR is working as expected. The OpenXR logs confirm this.

Should SteamVR launch at all?

so the advice to uninstall and re-install all OpenXR apps in windows is really helpful, and i think should be part of the base instructions, thanks @nikoel

- overall the performance is about the same between SVR and WMR at this stage

- big differences at 30 fps the Marianas Map and the Channel are both really usable in free flight

- there is a qualitative difference between MR on and off, but i prefer on.

still playing ...

I wonder why you have such a big gap between your performance increase vs my performance increase.  My performance shot through the roof and Im using 4x MSAA  with 45fps now...and I didnt really tweak anything. Im not using Process Lasso, all my nvidia presets are default...

Something fishy is going on. Time to start flipping toggles and shaking trees. See what will fall out

There will always be performance differences. But the deltas between people with identical hardware is too high. Something is causing this

One thing I noticed is that so far all 6900XT owners across the board saw improvements. Are there NVIDEA specific things that anyone can think of that could be affecting this

the nvida control panel has almost zero impact on any performance with a couple of exceptions, at least in SVR ... the problem is without any decent measurement tools its pretty hard to be anything other than subjective if you are forcing MR essentially you have 90-45-30-22 or whatever as your tools , and as you know its a huge difference between 45 and 90, so for example i just tried MSAA x4 and sure in my standard test i can see it keeps in 45fps but then so it did it SVR.

I would 100% agree with you except, you yourself have said you are getting stutters when you're looking at 9/3 o clock. I do not. Whilst our systems can exchange punches so to speak, both are overlocked to the tits, but you undoubtably, still have a more powerful system 3090/12700K vs 6900XT/3900X

I can load up Syria and even global warming causing Marianas and get smooth performance looking all the way around. This is with repro off. No adult toys. I am going to try to capture this via the DCS mirror. Don't get me wrong reprojection makes the experience smoother still but this is because you're locked at 90FPS

i should be clear with MR off I don't get the adult toy show on the missiles, i do get a shuddering external view in the 3/9, with MR on i do get a clear stable picture external and internal but i do get the adult toy show on the missiles, more frequently to the right wing tip i couldnt see the same effect in the mirror, but i can in the WMR mirror... are you using FFR?

Is openXR doing extensive logging ? I had good performance only to find the same mission a few days later running terrible. Then with an openXR reinstall the issue was fixed again until it went worse days later. If openXR is writing an extensive log file which grows larger and larger this could be an issue. And also explain performance differences on similar hardware systems related to HDD / SDD, empty space, segmentation etc

Or maybe MR is growing a page file that gets too large, which would explain why this only seems to happen with MR forced on.

Still missing OpenXR menu under DCS, I don't know what to do now (I've installed and re-installed..., deleted 3 files in dcs bin, pasted again)

I think my dcs doesn't "use" OpenXR (the OpenXR log file isn't modified when I launch DCS).

Menu and log file are "active" with MSFS.

what am I doing wrong ??

My active Runtime is oculus one, C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\oculus_openxr_64.json, do i have to change this for C:\Program Files\OpenXR-Toolkit\XR_APILAYER_NOVENDOR_toolkit.json ?

I am using Voice Attack (VAICOM) with OpenXR so it definitely does work. I can't think of why it should be dependent upon SteamVR though. Sorry.

I moved to Windows 11 recently and saw a big performance drop just using Process Lasso. MSFS kept crashing for no reason, DCS performance would suffer without even touching anything in Process Lasso, it was weird. Uninstalled it, redid the full Windows 11 install from scratch and here I am. Everything is vanilla so to speak.

Just tried OpenXR in DCS for the first time and it really is a massive improvement compared to SteamVR.

What I find the most astonishing is that MSAA 4x vs 2x doesn't really seem to make a substantial performance difference with OpenXR while massively improving the quality of the picture.

MSAA 4x in Steam VR would absolutely butcher performance which is why I never used it.

However, one thing I'm missing compared to SteamVR is the ability to use Reshade which improved the colors significantly.

I know Reshade doesn't work with OpenXR but is there any other method that does something similar which can be used with OpenXR?
