Is it possible to view a mission you have made playing out, without actually flying in it?

Yes, everything will work unless you made triggers based on player actions obviously.

OK, so whats the basic process then? I dont see a "spectator" option in SP like in multiplayer? Could you just explain how I would go about doing this? Sorry, new to this stuff.....generally just fly the missions!! Thanks

Just start the mission. Use the F-keys to change camera view. E.g. F2 for all aircraft (as long as you haven't disabled external camera views in the mission options). You also can change from each view to a free camera that you can move with mouse.

If you don't have a "player" piloted aircraft you are a spectator automatically.

Edit: you know there is a time scale +/- option too?

Brilliant thanks! Been flying DCS for years and never knew this, thought you had to actually be in one of the jets to start with

Hi, OK< I have been trying this out with varying degrees of success. I have made multiple flights, but using the F5 key to view them, I am unable to see all the flights, for example, there are 4 Apaches and a harrier taking off from my airfield as well as me, but these dont show when I cycle F5, but a flight of 4 F-16s from another airfield miles away do......

Also, F11 camera  - how do you move this? It seems centred in one place, not sure where? I can pan around using the mouse but what determines its location?

Use F2 to cycle through all aircraft. F5 is nearest ac afaik.

F11 has some default locations around airports. Move around the mouse to look around. Use wheel to accelerate or decelerate.

Try to open the F10 map, select a unit and then click F2 or the F key corresponding to unit type.

you can set the mission to have a Game Master.  This way you can create and play missions like an RTS
Need Combined Arms then, right?

Ctrl+F11 is your free camera option fyi. Pressing that combo will activate the free camera from any position you are in, including following aircraft, ships, ground vehicles, etc. You can control its movement by the mouse wheel or if you prefer more control, by using the arrow keys. Holding shift while using the arrow keys will speed up the camera movement.

in mission editor there is an icon to the left that will allow you to add battlefield commanders, observers and game masters.  You can then play the sim as an RTS and give tactical orders to units.

The client or player aircraft won't populate, just the AI.  There's a script for that.
