A-G changing to the gun using UNCAGE

Hello,

Previously I could use NSW/Missile step button to switch between AG modes (CCIP, CCRP, ....  and GUN)
This is no longer available, is there any option using hotas commands to switch to the AG gun when in AG mode without using the OSB buttons in the SMS page?

Regards,
HKJ

Thanks for that @_SteelFalcon_

Having to leave your hand from the stick in the middle of a tense fight just to fiddle around, under G load, trying to hit a small MFD button while you might not even have the correct page up... no way it was designed like that.

Very much hope they sort that out asap!

@NineLine Any progress on this? It's rather dangerous as it is now, fiddeling around in the MFD pages just to bring the gun up while dodging sams and not flying into the ground.

It should be noted that UNCAGE for calling up air to ground gun was a fairly late addition. ED is right to look for evidence of this being a thing on our block. Yes, it was designed like that, the gun's primary use was never air to ground, this capability was a mere afterthought. Viper is very much a "one pass and haul ass" striker, not a CAS aircraft. Even when it does CAS IRL, it's mostly with JDAMs and LGBs rather than rockets or the gun (which isn't to say going in for guns is not a thing, but it's not the primary use).

Does the cage button do anything apart from locking the sidewinders?

Adding to what Frederf said, with DED data in the HUD and gear down UNCAGE will blank the DED data so you can see the glideslope and AoA bracket better.

That's cool!

Finding how to enable LST has been a revelation.

In some ways it makes sense that they didn't design a2g weapons to change rapidly.  It's not convenient at all, but think about it like this:  IRL you set up for 1 or 2 attack runs and then it's back to the tanker.  So, you select your weapon, make your attack run, and haul ass out of there, because that's your only defense.  If another 1 is needed, you set up again for another run, then roll in, again at high speed, and then gtfo asap.  Fast jets aren't built to loiter at low speed and altitude.  It sucks for the sim, but that's probably a real life thing.  Just a my 2 cents.

That and Vipers always fly with two wing bags, so you're only going to be carrying one type of A2G ordnance at a time. There have been occasional asymmetric loads but those have usually been from low-threat environments. In ODS and OIF if a flight needed multiple types of ordnance, lead would take one type and -2 would take another type.

Sorry to bring it to you, the last  statement is just „feelings and impressions“ and have nothing to do with factual evidence proving or disproving the function this topic is about and therefore adds nothing to the discussion, only derailing it from its original intention.
