Yeah it's rough when they're limiting the initial supplies to drive up the demands and craze to increase revenue.  But this is one of the ways they can stay in business longer.

I think I’m just gonna forget about it for a bit, it’s not doing me any good checking my emails constantly. And seems pointless anyway if they sell out that quickly.

Though to be fair, OCUK have been around for ages, I doubt they need this to stay afloat.

Anyway it is what it is, getting cross about it won’t change anything.

I was talking about NVIDIA not OCUK, btw.  Their practice is a bit shady but it has been this way for ages.  I'm pretty sure they have enough products at least for the early adopters but decided to let them out a bit at a time.  You might see a change in the pattern once the new AMD GPUs are ready to be on the shelf.

Ah right, sorry.
Though my gut says it’s greed that’s driving their policy’s rather than need.

OCUK just got 10x 4090s (at 12:20 on a Wednesday afternoon) and they sold out in 5 mins (according to the guy I spoke to on the phone just now.)

Am I paranoid in thinking that had to be bot wielding scalpers? I got the stock alert (been checking email every 5 mins) and buy the time I’m through to the website there gone.

To add insult to injury, I’d emailed them this morning about stock and they said they had no idea when they are getting anymore.

Buying a gfx card really does suck all the fun out of life haha.

Sorry, bit of a vent, it’s just frustrating.

Yep it is the scalpers. Long as they have a market of willing people to pay those high prices to get a card sooner they will always exist. I would gladly go without before I ever supported them by buying a card from them. Screw them.

And I check the SCAN UK, they claim to have the least expensive Asus 4090 in stock if and only if one builds a PC with them, not to mention the price has been marked up to >£300 per piece. But these cards are not for sale as a component, so tough luck if you wish to upgrade.

My thoughts exactly.

I must say I’m a bit annoyed at OCUK. I bought a PC from the recently that I had to send back yesterday as it was damaged in transit. So I emailed them this morning to see if they could keep it till they have a 4090 to put in there (very unlikely I know, but worth a shot). Got an email back at 10:55 saying they have no idea when they will have any more stock. At 12:20 I got a stock alert, sold out by 12:25. Did they really not know they were about to get 10x GPUs an hour and a half latter?

Thats the last thing I’ll say on the matter as it’s just pointless venting. I’ve prescribed my self 2 pints of stress relief at my local  pub 🍺😁

so it feels an awful lot like the 30x0 series launch... demand is high, even though the prices are higher in absolute terms, the difference is that there is an excess in remaining 30x0 series cards, not just wafers from NVidia but with board partners and with stock as supplier, because of well a load of reasons.

But I honestly don't expect "free flow" of 40x0 series cards until the supplies of 30x0 have been exhausted... if I was them and it was my sunk inventory as a business I would want to get that cleared before i released the new toys ... my 0.02GBP

You can also sign up with trackers such as nowinstock (there’s gotta be some for the UK). These sites have tracking bots that can notify you on the fly via phone msg the moment the products are in stock at various retailers. This is how some friends were able to get the 4090 despite missing the initial sales.  You typically only have seconds to do this so it’s a good practice to setup an account with those retailers for this.

What will typically bog you down is the payment process which can take awhile especially when the site is being bombarded by thousands of other people wanting the same thing and a lot of time the product is no longer available by the time you punch in the credit card number.  With services such as Apple Pay, I just click buy then double click a button on my phone to confirm the purchase and the transaction is done within 2 seconds.

Am I reading that wrong, or are they trying to sell them for £16k on Amazon?

You can also see that OCUK had that stock 27 minutes after the guy said they didn’t know when they’d have any.

Not impressed with OCUK. They might be on the receiving end of a stinky email 😬

Quick back to the beer…

Part of the issue during the last cycle was the fact crypo miners were still buying these cards and willing to pay a premium. As I understand it the entire crypto market has mostly collapsed, so the demand for this should be significantly lower. Hopefully the scalpers loose their asses on this.

That's because the government has systematically run the country and the pound into the ground for the last decade 🙁

When I got my 3070 (November 2021) I used the FEpartalert telegram channel that binged when the UK/EU fe cards landed. I clicked the buy button within 20 seconds of the alert coming in and the stock was gone by the time I put my card details in!

They're listing 4090fe cards on there so that's probably where I'd be looking if I were going to upgrade.

There are only two cards that fit in my case... one of them is the FE and the other is the liquid suprim ... also i thought one of the differences is in the UK we show the cards including taxes, and in the US they don't ?

Taxes in the U.S. are different depending in which state you live.  They add taxes at checkout after you confirm you address.

yes, that's my point in the UK (at least) the taxes are included (20%)  in the price so my 2000 GBP card is broadly 1600 + TAX
