now that we already have that nice 'METEO' wind direction feature in the briefing screen, would it be possible to round those direction numbers to 10 degress and add the windspeed in knots? something like that maybe:

At GRND 4 m/s, 236° | Meteo 240° at 8kt

this would be in line with western notation, so hopefully  everybody should be happy 😀

+1 the notation should be feet/knots when user DCS is set to Imperial units. Additionally, the TO wind and term "meteo" should be deleted entirely, with only wind FROM being listed. No wind direction other than FROM should be written anywhere, and the term "meteo wind" apparently does not exist anywhere in the real world.

on the long term, yes. but for now i think we have to go "baby steps" or nothing ☺️

You're welcome to check out how I've modified the briefing @ https://github.com/chump29/DCS_Mod#briefing-addons

Quote

Adds the following to the briefings:

  • Times in Zulu and local
  • Long date
  • Current time
  • Sunrise/sunset times
  • METAR
  • Dynamic Case I/II/III
  • Temperature (C & F)
  • QNH (inHg & mmHg & hPa)
  • Magnetic variation
  • Cloud base rounded to 100ft/30m (ft & m)
  • Wind (blows FROM)
  • CDU wind (when in A-10)
  • Turbulence (kts & mps)

Thank you for your fast response. I downloaded and installed OvGME and Briefing.Addons.zip but can't figure out how to import or install the Mod. Please advise.

The mods filename is not correct, rename it to "Briefing Addons.zip"  (a space instead of the first dot) .. then OvGME will recognize it correctly, like this:

... once enabled it will modify all missions briefings like this:

Great Mod by the way, thanks @Chump 🙂

Yup! Got it and it looks good! Thx!

I don't understand how the guys at Eagle Dynamics can create such incredible stuff and yet I find myself spending hours in the forums over stupid stuff like wind direction. I thought Meteo was maybe some European standard. Forum says it doesn't exist in the real world. DCS is reporting wind in polar opposite directions like 220 meteo 40? WTF?

Discussion as long as DCS exists. There are different types of wind direction reporting IRL, either "wind from" or "wind to". In DCS we now have both - you'll figure it out.

GitHub added the extra dot. I will get it fixed up. Thanks!

No. There is only one wind direction reporting in the real-world aviation industry, and that is wind "from."

Oh, so one country in the entire world doesn't use the standard. I guess in order to cater to them and make things easier to understand, the briefing page should read "wind to" and "wind from" instead of the nonsensical "meteo wind" and "nav wind."

even so, it seems there isnt just a single standard 🤔
