F-16 Viper Textures Overhaul

Texac

Recommended Posts

The external textures created by Eagle Dynamics for their F-16 Viper seem to have been left in an unfinished state since Early Access release. Which means details, as well as a somewhat realistic or authentic weathering pattern are absent next to many other things.

I spent a lot of work in the past to improve and add up all these small details to the external textures.

Overall I added many missing panels, rivets, holes, exhausts, vents, seams, lights and other details to the whole aircraft. Too long and finicky to list all the changes in detail.

So below is a short list of the main changes and improvements so far.

  • Added missing panels, rivets as well as holes and exhausts to the bottom fuselage
  • Added more detail to the engine exhaust
  • Added dirt, scratches and leaked oil to the airbrakes mechanism
  • Reworked all rivets and added rivets on the top fuselage (rivet counter)
  • Added textures to the M61 gun
  • Added sealant to the canopy frame, RWR and AIFF antennas

- Added new cockpit textures (Currently a sort of WIP placeholder. They are a custom mix of textures made by watermanpc and wolfthrower)

So far I reworked the main fuselage, some parts of the tail, all pylons and the fuel tanks. The wings will be overhauled as well with new rivets, etc.

Thank you for your work to the community, outstanding work so far and looking promising. I always do my walkaround in VR to check details so i´m eager to see the result when you finish.

Keep up and thank you once again for your outstanding work.

This is the idea behind it. Getting the model/textures as detailed as it can be so that even up close it looks authentic. Especially when you might want to walk around the aircraft for a pre-flight check, maybe?

Must be a few-dozens of workhours on those, right ?

Yes, the first of such improvements I started to add years ago and in the last weeks/months I have been adding a lot more improvements.

It will still take some time and work until I can call it finished as a template.

Thanks everyone!

Both wing textures are now completely reworked to an appropriate level. That includes all the new rivets from above as well as new horizontal stabilizers.

All that's left to do is reworking and improving the tail texture. After that I'm starting to call it completed so I can start making some actual liveries.

You can faintly spot the new rivets. I added these since weathering and leaks sometimes start to build up from those rivets.

epic work!
will you be releasing this as a new 'template' for us to enjoy with our own skins?

Thanks!

It probably will be difficult to handle for most, because to get all of the above improvements, other textures are needed which are not included inside the original template.

I always had this in mind from the beginning. But I haven't decided on how the template will look like, to be more user friendly, and when and if I can release it.

What do you mean by addon liveries?

These textures act as a new base template. If you want other liveries to include the same improvements, they need to be reworked by their authors, with my permission or credit to use my textures.

I mean, there are default and user skins installed already. Are these will remain non improved and only this skin will work as upgraded?

Most importantly, is it available to download?

Any other skins not done by me need to be reworked by their authors, in order to include the improvements. Which means user made skins and default skins need to be reworked.

If not, they will continue to work just fine as you know them.

I will release these new improved textures with some of my existing skins in the coming few weeks.

There is not much to see on the tail, except that you can now make out screws and rivets, so the differences lay in the details.

You can see the new canopy scratches, an actual textured pitot tube, rivets on the front canopy frame, sealant around the canopy and AIFF as well as RWR antennas.
