Mango15532 Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 (edited) Hi All, I am new to DCS and I am currently downloading the base file. Now I am not new to flight sim as I have quite a lot of experience flying complex aeroplanes like Boeing and airbuses. I understand the base installer 2.7 includes two aeroplanes, But where I do begin? Anything that I need to be aware of? I know the concept of flying but new to combact sim. I can also see there are lots of DLC available but for instance If I just buy an aeroplane, do I have to buy the missions separately? Also my system specs: - Intel i5-6500 - GTX 1070 8GB Graphics Card - 32GB DDR4 Ram - I also have 1 TB SSD - Windows 10 home 64 bit Edited October 28, 2022 by Mango15532
SharpeXB Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Welcome to DCS! Yes the aircraft modules come with various missions ranging from instant action, scenarios and some campaigns. The only payware mission content are the DLC campaigns sold separately. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | CH Pro Pedals | TrackIR 5
Art-J Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 Once you've got the sim downloaded and installed, you'll find the "docs" subfolder, located in the main one. There should be a 2020 manual there, which I'd recommend checking out to learn various useful info about the basics of DCS. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Glide Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 You get the SU-25 and the TF-51D with the free download. This Mustang is one of the best models on the sim market today IMHO. There is a Instant Action called Hot Start from Batumi Parking that is great for starting out. The Free Flight Missions start in the air and are the easiest way to get airborne. 1
Iron Sights Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 Only separate purchases are campaigns. There are training missions, instant missions, missions and some even have a campaign included with the module. If you are new, pick a plane you like and trial it before you buy. Chuck’s guide is an excellent resource as well for getting more concise details about the module. Then just practice. Before you know it, you’ll find DCS has a lot of detail that most sims don’t have. Once you get better you can even create missions to practice. 1

First get all the peripheral mastered. You will find DCS is the best in peripheral setup and config... it takes some time to understand all the possibiities at you hand...I recomend HOTAS +rudder (with toe brakes) + Track Ir or similar as a minumum. Once this is done, and depending on your preferences, get a plane of your dream (F-16, F-14) in the free trial period and get a glance of it (be wise and use the 50% sale for new buyers). After that, hide your wallet/credit card in a safe place so your wife controls it and resist the temptation of buying a new plane every two weeks or when frustrated with difficulties or bugs. Try to learn a plane deeply before jumping to another one. Don't be shy about multiplayer; try to join a squadron with a Discord channel and fly with them. There are a lot of people out there willing to teach others, as well there also are some "true to life" groups that don't like unexperienced pilots. If you browse this forum, every few days you will find some squadron recruiting and some of them accept non advanced pilots, so have a try. The rest is up to you. Enjoy! Saludos. Saca111 2

Don't neglect the free Su-25T that comes with the base game. It comes with a crapton of different weapons, packs a wicked punch, and fires A2G missiles the size of telephone poles. It's a riot. Also, it has enough fancy electronics with the laser guided missiles to give you a taste of things to come. You'll get into the fun factor for free and really fast with this plane. Good tutorial. This will give you a quick taste. 3 Some of the planes, but all of the maps!
Mango15532 Posted October 30, 2022 Author Posted October 30, 2022 Thanks guys - I will have a look. Quick question If I were to buy a aeroplane for instance lets say FA18 hornet - The product page says that it includes aeroplane and a aircraft carrier. what about missions?

There´s usually a variety of missions with modules, from instant action to training missions.. and sometimes a campaign aswell. There´s also a file repository that will have a lot of free user made missions, some of them stunning quality. On top the mission editor is really good, so if you want to try something very specific, you can just build it yourself. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/ PC: i7 8700k 32GB DDR4 3200 Mhz RTX 3070 Ti Hotas Warthog Thrustmaster TPR Track ir 5 Bodnar BBI-32 Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 Lewitt LCT 240 Pro Jets: A-10A A-10C Warthog A-10C II F-14 Tomcat F-16C Viper F-5E Tiger II F/A-18C Hornet F-15C Su-33 MiG-29 F-86F Sabre Choppers: AH-64D Mi-8MTV2 UH-1H Huey Black shark 2 Maps: Nevada Normandy Persian gulf Syria The Channel WW2: BF-109 K4 Fw 190 D-9 Dora Mosquito FB VI P-51D Mustang Spitfire LF Mk. The aircraft carrier comes free with the base game. The Super Carrier is a separate paid module. It's great eye candy, but it's only really worth it if you want the cool new toys or if you are really into carrier ops with all the bells and whistles. Otherwise the free version is fine. Some of the planes, but all of the maps!
Iron Sights Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 The F/A-18 is a great plane. It’s the one I started with and the carrier ops are a plus. Not to mention there are plenty sources of information on this plane as well. It has nice canned missions to help you learn. Don’t forget the mission editor will help create sandbox missions to help you practice with weapons. 1
CBStu Posted November 8, 2022 Posted November 8, 2022 (edited) Also if you buy another map, Persian Gulf for instance, you get a ton of missions w/ it. Edited November 8, 2022 by CBStu
