As far as my EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra goes? Yeah I could still sell it right now for a good buck, but no this time I am not going to do that. My grandson who could sorely use a better GPU is going to be the beneficiary of a nice gift from Grandpa. He does not know yet. Going to give this 4090 couple of weeks or so to make sure won't need the 3090, then spring it on him. I think he will be ecstatic.  He loves PC's but can not afford the top end at this time understandibly. He will also be receiving my complete PC system whatever I am running at the time and all flight and racing sim controllers upon my passing whenever that is. Least I don't have to worry about my wife throwing it all in the trash LOL.

 

I'm slowly gathering parts to build my son's first PC. He already has inherited my 5800x and will get my 6900xt when I finally break down and replace it...

I gave my Grandaughter my original Quest around a year or two ago. I am slowly getting to them all lol.

Are they all (or any) old enough to appreciate what a beast that graphics card is? Or is it more like: grandpa's put a special card in the computer to make Sonic run faster (he's not!)

Oof, showing your age there mate, I’m pretty sure they’re all playing Crash Bandicoot on their Sony Game Stations these days… ;);)

I don’t think your  going to be disappointed @dburne, I’m very happy with mine (G2 user). I’m amazed you still went out to dinner! I would have been cooking up all sorts of excuses to stay home : D Whether they’d pass the “wife test” is another matter.

Well my grandson certainly is - he is 19 and already graduated high school. The grandaughter is 17. The rest are a little younger.

Wow just ran a Time Spy benchmark for a quick test for the card.

She is boosting to 2805 MHz with max GPU temp of 58C.

I will take it!

I use cold start mission , I like to get her cranked up then fly around for a while. Hope to start campaign flying with it later today.

I use the Free Flight because I can see the resource hits of the cities vs the open water just by looking left or right. Then I can test any LOD/spotting improvements by flying towards and joining the 2 Spitfires that are headed toward me, and once I join up with them I can check on any ghosting of the other aircraft by doing a few aerobics around the AI.

Ok so testing in DCS Spit Cold Start Channel Map, a mission I have been flying whilst I learn the Spit for the last couple of weeks.

My fps went from 40-50 fps with the 3090 to 65-75fps with the 4090. Frametimes down to 11-14 ms or so. Previously they were like 18-20 ms.Top GPU Temp whilst flying the mission was 52c.

I think I am going to be very pleased with this 4090. Think I will test Varjo Motion Reprojection now that I have a 4090 and see how it does - I know it is still in Beta at this time.

Just registered this puppy, warranty shows it expires 1/9/27.  Not bad. Of course no experience whatsoever with their warranty so no idea how good or bad it might be. I know probably no one can attain the level that EVGA did.

I have fpsVR.

13900KF, DDR5 6200mhz and Gigabyte RTX4090 gaming OC, same as dburne.

CPU frametime is mostly 4-5 ms, tops at 6ms.

GPU lowest 7-8, mostly 9-10 and low lever over land about 11-12.

Average FPS is about 87 fps when beibg server and gaming a own mission with friends. (The server part does not affect the fps as ”I” am very GPU bound). 

I use resolution 100% (4148 x 3136, I think) and the settings in DCS as per Reverb gaming.
