Trip down memory lane clearing the garage out.

34 years of Flight Simming. Shame dont have the old F19 / F15E Micronullprose boxed games anymore. Janes 15E too but not in shot.

Those all bring back good memories!

The announcement of the preorder for the F-15E Strike Eagle module reminded me that I first played a flight sim when F-15 Strike Eagle was released on the Apple II back in 85(?) or so.  Then it was Jet and Falcon 1.0 on the high school IBM PCs.  Falcon 2.0 on the Mac, F/A-18 Hornet from GraphSim on the Mac, and Chuck Yeager's Air Combat in college, and briefly playing around on the flight sim on an SGI Indy.  Then got into building my own PC just so I could play Falcon 4.0.  And now DCS World.  What a long trip.  Wish I had kept the boxes/disks/manuals for most of them, though I still think I have the Falcon 4.0 binder.

Congratulations, nostalgic indeed.

One of my very first jet fighter PC sims was probably MicroProse's "F-15 Strike Eagle II", in the early '90s.

Interesting how, until I tried that sim I didn't even knew what kind of aircraft an F-15 was... and the same for many other aircraft.

Any videos of that sim on youtube ?

My first "acquantaince" with the Tomcat was "TOPGUN: Fire At Will!"

Fleet Defender, I never managed to find it at my country in the '90s unfortunatelly.

This was my first "combat flight simulator". 😁

I still have all those old simulations and from time to time I still play them on my retro systems. But only some of them, because I'm sure I've collected well over 1000 simulation games over the last 39 years.

They are all on floppy disks or packed in slimline CD-cases in DJ cases. The manuals are stored in cabinets. Unfortunately I got rid of almost all cover boxes, because there was no more room for all the boxes. 😪

It's hard to believe, but I spent countless hours in front of those pixelated CGA graphics back then and was completely spellbound by them.

My father always said that he couldn't understand why I was so fascinated by it?

You can't really see anything! What is that supposed to be, another plane and a hangar? 😅😂

My father brought me to all the airplane-stuff. Bitburg and Spangdahlem just around the corner, he often spoke about events there long before I set foot on earth. No surprise then when finally getting the Amiga 500 to replace the C 64, we both stared amazed on the perfect images of bad-ass "Fighter Bomber". 🙂 As someone mentioned above ... how far we have come.

I remember playing a pirated copy of Microprose's F-19 Stealth Fighter, bought off the streets of Bahrain at a local shop, while stationed in Bahrain, 1990 after Desert Shield/Storm ended. Bought my first PC when I got home the end of that year and have been throwing money at the genre ever since.

Wow what a blast from the past.  Secret Weapons of Luftwaffe laid the ground work for the many hours I spent playing B-17 Flying Fortress.  I lived one year in college by myself and spent lot of time with B-17 and X-Wings.

Great Thread BTW

First Helo game "sim" I flew "combat air lynx" in my old amstrad cpc 464

Later I bought Gunship imported from Uk to spain : (turn sound off ) I swear that in my memory I was flying the best simulator in the world.

Sorry for that, lol, I am flying more time I can remember since 1986 or after even...and now I am 53 years old.....

I'll be 53 next month, and I've spent two-thirds of my life with flight sims (or other types of simulators).

And I'm still as excited about it as the first day! 😅
