HoBGoBLiNzx3 Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Anyone having any issues? TWS/RWS, even on spot mode I won't get a brick unless within 20km. I have to use LHQC (that won't lock directly in front of hud either) Radar elevation is right on, aspect is correct, even radar cross section, and aircraft size is correct. Literally wont get bricks within visual range.. They randomly decide to hit, generally at very close ranges. The Hornet radar seems to have a mind of it's own. F-14, F-16, none of them have this issue. I won't even get bricks until I'm getting RWR warnings on pitbulled missles.
rob10 Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Post a track and maybe someone will be able to spot an issue. From your description it's throwing darts and hoping something hits to find your answer.
Raisuli Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 (edited) The Hornet radar is one of the best, and while it seems I have to literally conduct an in-person introduction between the radar and the huge Vogon spaceship that's only a few thumb widths away I've also got dead-on instant locks at 80 thousand legionnaire paces when the DL told me where to look. My best advice is to start with this from 104 Maverick, because this is where everything started to come together for me: <edit> This is an excellent explanation by Growling Sidewinder of the problems air-to-air radar have to solve, and why the solutions aren't always obvious: </edit> Edited April 3, 2023 by Raisuli 2
Kula66 Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 I've certainly seen similar things a few times ... bandit visible visually as a dot (15-20 miles), closing head-on (so a good radar target), visible on D/L, LACQ selected, in the circle, correct PRF, etc and no lock. Very frustrating. I understand the 18s radar is going to be reviewed 'soon', so fingers crossed. 2

brettt777 Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 I've had issues with the Hornet radar myself. I tried it last night after installing the latest update the day before. I had a TU-95 Bear 5-10 miles straight out in front of me and couldn't see it most of the time. Tried different antenna angles, different PRF, different direction of approach, didn't matter. In fact, since installing that update, I could hardly get anything to work. I had a Corvette in the water about 20-30 miles from my Hornet and had 4 Harpoons loaded up. I got a radar lock, got the FLIR locked on and had all four RDY. But every time I launched them, they ran off on some random direction and didn't even try to track. I couldn't get an AIM-120 to lock on to that Bear. In fact I seemed to have issues with everything I flew last night. The AIM-120's on an F-16 also wouldn't lock onto to those same TU-95's. And I even tried to shoot those same Bear's with an F-14 and a couple AIM-54's. Same thing; Jester has them all locked up and tracking, I fire a Phoenix, and it goes off on some random direction. Now, I don't profess to be the greatest DCS fighter pilot on Earth, but I have a fair idea what I'm doing and I just couldn't get anything to work last night. When I get back home I will try and provide a track file or replay, maybe someone can show me what I'm doing wrong if anything. I play on the Hoggit training server and fail to lock up the C101s that are for target practice and usually end up flying right past them or finally do lock them around 5 miles away. I've been using that "Maverick" youtube video as a guide. I then created my own mission using 2 F4s as target practice at 50 miles and 100 miles out over the open sea. The first F4 I can eventually lock up at about 15-20 miles out. I'm still learning the radar so I took it as I still need more work. The second F4 I could not find on radar. I cheated and used the F10 map and he was pretty much right off my nose. 40 miles. 30 20 still cant see him... I got frustrated and turned my radar to STBY then back to OPR. 2 seconds later the brick shows up, and lock him up almost instantly.
Phil C6 Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 (edited) Hi i noticed 3 prob with the F18 radar but it's not easy to do a short track of this, on session of 1h ou 2h of Dogfight the prob appear several time : 1 the prob describe by others in BFM before the merge (between 10Nm and maybe 3Nm, under it lock again) 2 About the same prob but in HMCS mode, if the target is in the hud it can't be locked, i'm not sure it's normal 3 In HMCS since the first patch after the 2.8 was out, some lock aren't possible while it's in dogfight (short range) and inside the gimbal limit as if it was beaming but from memory before this patch we had instant lock in the same conditions (check the video) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-p_Y6Pf1f70zX1IwTztWf9lxB9yYWLRg/view?usp=share_link Best regards Edited April 27, 2023 by Phil C6

Phil C6 Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 Hi as said before it's not easy to do a "SHORT" track but videos and informations could help official beta tester to do the track. Best regards

HoBGoBLiNzx3 Posted May 4, 2023 Author Posted May 4, 2023 I found that a lot of my bugs were HOTAS axis related. Once you remapped them to buttons it worked much better. I think ED should look into more ways of implementing more axis options. Likeouse being able to control TDC cursor and not just for HOTAS.. Likely not a priority, but something I think is very highly usable... The X2 thumb stick is a mouse and not an analog stick so it's practically useless.
