Slightly disappointed by Normandy 2.0 after first impression

My tuppence worth regarding the ground colours, I live in the south of England and have spent a fair amount of time on the South Downs. The Channel map colours look off to me, I’m no colour scientist so don’t know how to describe it, but it doesn’t look right to me at all. I’m using a Reverb G2 so that might have something to do with it. That being said the colour of the grass etc on the IL2 Normandy map look a lot more like what I’m used to and the old Normandy map sits somewhere in between. I’ve yet to try the new one . 🙂

I know it's been discussed a lot over the years, but I have not really had an issue with the greens in Normandy. Could be my fading eyesight, of course!

What would be a good mission to choose to highlight where this is particularly bad?

Well, literally anywhere really with Spring textures, clear sky, about noon and default 2.2 gamma. Summer textures being somewhat less cartoonish.

That being said, I understand the whole issue has been quite a subjective thing, and might indeed be affected by 2D vs VR as well. I'm 2D player only.

Well, I tried the darkening mod, and tbh, I prefer the original colours. I also use 2D.

Hi,

I can confirm my opinion on this map after various tests, the colors are definitely unrealistics and the general look very (too) close to Normandy 1, a real cartoon effect, it is not serious in my opinion, and expensive paid for the degres of fidelity that it represents.

Totaly understand everyone point of view on here…. personally the first thing i went to look at was to see if the supermarine factory had been recreated at woolston, southampton…. sadly not…. HOWEVER. omg the normandy 2.0 is amazing and pared with the campaigns from @Reflected its way better than syria in my opinion.

im sure the creators will update and all these ‘missing’ POIs will find their way to the map eventually…. fingers crossed.

So did I. Don’t try Eastleigh, you won’t like the landing.

Here’s hoping for updates.

Let’s hope we get it in an update, with Woolston (including the chain ferry, I’m not fussy much), Netley Hospital, Hamble yachts etc. etc.. haha.

Had a clockwise flight around the Island earlier, Spitfire, of course. The Needles are there, I was looking to see if they’d coloured the beaches but I’m a certifiable nutcase. Most that I’ve checked out is pretty good though. Maybe I overstretched trying to learn take offs in the Huey from the Tower of London but still.

I went looking for the Maunsell Forts in the Thames estuary.  I couldn't find them at first.
Then I cheated - I took an A-10CII and inputted the coordinates as waypoints. 😉

Did they do the coloured sand/rock at Alum Bay?

I didn’t notice much colour change but they’ve varied the coastline. Rockfalls and bits and bobs to change it up, looks alright and the Needles are there like I said. No Osborne House though.

Edit2: Ventnor had a crucial CH set up during the war. Jerry knocked it out at one point but we had it fixed up pretty quickly. I didn’t see anything there if I remember correctly.

I flew along the Solent and Southampton water knowing already there was no airfield at the end but wanting to see what was there instead. I’ve a big family connection with the airfield and Southampton so obviously I’d have liked to see it there. K5054 arguments I’ll save for later. I didn’t notice if the church was there, I’ll look later. I’ve relatives buried in the graveyard along with RJ Mitchell (Not related) so have plenty to argue my case for it haha.

Last look I had at N2 the trees were shimmering and looking weird and I have buildings and wotnot on the horizon popping up, not too good for targeting. I’ve got to look around, see if I can’t change my settings maybe. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s something I’ve not sorted properly.

My feelings towards the new Normandy map are mixed, too.

First and foremost - the metropoles London and Paris are great and give much value in my opinion. I can't imagine how much work went into them. 👍

Second, and that is not a fault of the creators of the map - The landscape, apart from the metropoles, is rather boring. By tha nature of the area it is almost completely flat and lacks variety. And it is vast. That is a blessing if one wants to reenact realistic bomber or escort missions, but not so much for more casual players. The result is, that you fly over the same kind of terrain most of the time without much interesting to see. Again, that is how it is in reality and not a fault of the makers, but maybe it is important for people who are interested in buying the map.

Third - and those are my only real complaints with the creators - The colors and the trees, especially in the summer are completely off in my opinion. It is a bit better in the autumn but in the summer forrests and trees look terrible.

Personally, I can't wait for the Barthek/Taz1004-Treatment of this map!

In the Meantime I enjoy sightseeing in London and Paris!

@Barthek @Taz1004 Shoutout to you guys!

Flying over Normandie 2 is by no means boring unless you are only interested in the fighting,
for my part, the fights are boring for me, but there is something for everyone.
Personally what I like is to fly over a landscape so well done that it almost reflects reality, which is practically Normandy 2 And when we can get the Barthek and Taz mode
it will be sublime to fly for hours without getting bored (at least for me).:pilotfly:

It's far from boring for me either and I spend most of my time learning to operate the different aircraft. Or trying to.

Circuits and bumps and sightseeing on either N2 or the Channel maps can eat hours up. Barely seen my other maps since I bought them.
