slughead Posted June 21, 2023 Posted June 21, 2023 AI pilots. Are they the most useless things in this simulator? They crash into hillsides. Can't maintain level flight without wildly increasing or decreasing altitude like a yoyo. They crash on landing and if they don't taxi right off the end of the runway, through fences and off into the sunset. Never mind their ability to stop the aircraft (F-16) yards from touchdown. 2 Slugmouse: a finger-mounted mouse button emulator for hand-tracked VR cockpit clicking. Available now! See this happen often. AI logic is just FUBAR. Ground AI are just as stupid. Likely hasn't been updated since the late 90's! 2
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted June 21, 2023 ED Team Posted June 21, 2023 There have been lots of changes since the 90's so again I would ask that if you are seeing a problem to add as short as possible track replay examples. We can check them against what we have reported already. Forum rules - DCS Crashing? slughead Posted June 22, 2023 Author Posted June 22, 2023 (edited) The first track is ready. This shows the AI pilot taxiing straight off the end of the runway into the sunset. You could also use it as an example of the AI pilot not holding the flare on touchdown to bleed speed yet being able to slow down rapidly. It wasn't my best landing either This was flown from the Caucus Takeoff mission. In the pictures below I have exited the runway onto the taxiway. The wingman decided to go for a stroll in the park. null null wing_man_taxi_off_end_of_runway.trk Edited June 22, 2023 by slughead Slugmouse: a finger-mounted mouse button emulator for hand-tracked VR cockpit clicking. What I mean is this is a simple take-off mission, where you can either quit after take-off or follow the planned route, immediately after take-off you divert into a mini low-level airshow while the AI is just trying to follow all it knows which is to rejoin. The AI doesn't know anything about what you are doing and only tries to keep up with you. If your wingman was human he would probably just break off and let you get it out of your system, but the AI only does what its told even if sometimes that will get it killed. So in this one, I believe you just broke the AI from flying too far off the planned route. Flying the mission in a more expected manner has no issues. Maybe try at least forming up first, maybe closing up the formation some before trying to take your wingman on a joy ride, but understand as well AI is not as quick as you and is only here to follow orders. 2 Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

Yeah, ok I get that, fair enough. That flight is more of a system performance test that I run. Since the last patch (not today's) I've not managed to get this to happen again. The AI is keeping a decent altitude when he's not on my wing. I have another that I will raise in a separate thread of the AI wingman ejecting when he/she/it calls bingo. Thanks for taking the time to review these. Edited August 22, 2023 by slughead Slugmouse: a finger-mounted mouse button emulator for hand-tracked VR cockpit clicking. Available now! Solution slughead Posted April 5 Author Solution Posted April 5 Returning to this to say that in one of the recent updates it appears that AI behaviour has improved massively. At least in my test flight. AI pilot appears to manage fuel better, or perhaps he's been given more fuel. They're not crashing into hillsides and they are maintaining close formation better than I have noticed before. I've not managed to test their bingo state and whether they eject when they call bingo. 2 Slugmouse: a finger-mounted mouse button emulator for hand-tracked VR cockpit clicking. Available now!
