Hulkbust44 Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 What are you fighting? In general respect the MAR, take an ATFLIR to look for launches, have .1 mach over the target, use RAID in TWS to quickly focus on a track for almost STT quality with auto scan centering.Threat environment? Types of opponents? own ship loadout? Sent from my moto g stylus 5G (2022) using Tapatalk
SharpeXB Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 (edited) Think about defending first and attacking second. Put your priority on survival. Check out info on missile avoidance. Get Tacview so you can see why happened and evaluate what you did right or wrong. Assume any enemy within range has already fired at you since you won’t get a warning from TWS or IR missiles. falcon_120 Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 A hornet with Aim120c is a formidable platform in Bvr, even with his always screamed lack of speed. But you can be alright if you learn the basic Bvr principles applicable to all fighters:-Make a proper SA assessment first-Launch you missiles high to give them proper range-defend low-Learn the MAR of your missiles and the enemy's-Crank to support-Crank to launch if required from close-learn to disengage-learn to notch-get a wingman or allies to support.-rebuild SA as much as you need(if you loose it with the amazing L16)Enviado desde mi ELE-L29 mediante Tapatalk
Foka Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Find on YT tutorials, learn and use actual BVR tactics. It's not just "fire AMRAAM when you can and keep going".
Raisuli Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Based on YT you'd better be defending before you need to defend. Just assume there's a giant white d[evice] of death with your name on it once in range. Also, TacView is your friend. More than worth the cost of admission, because all the things you did wrong are right there in living color. Then learn your skills one at a time. It helps to have a fairly sterile environment to learn them. 1
evilnate Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Try to keep enemies 15nm from you at all times, and don’t lose energy. 1
MarkyMark Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 As high speed and high altitude as possible, always be prepared to be defensive in the hornet. It’s not built for air superiority. But with enough fuel and height, you’d be surprised what it can do. If you can, reduce radar azimuth and bar scan for faster radar updates and a more stable lock. Use auto track if needed. For more spread out targets you can reduce to 2 bar scan and go wider to 60 or 80 degrees. really depends if you’re against single targets, a group, aspect etc. it takes more effort than other planes like eagle, tomcat, viper but it gets it done. there are too many variables to say in one post.
Exorcet Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 The Hornet is slow, don't try to outspeed your opponent unless you're very lightly loaded (ie nothing under the wings). What the Hornet does have is good avionics and radar. You've got 10 more degrees azimuth per side more than most fighters, so the F-18 is really good at beaming. Speed and altitude are better for missiles as always. In the Hornet, try to focus more on altitude than speed The wings are good at low indicated speeds, you climb better when not trying to go supersonic, and you can accelerate fast with the help of gravity (this is also aided by your wide radar azimuth). 1 Awaiting: DCS F-15C Win 10 i5-9600KF 4.6 GHz 64 GB RAM RTX2080Ti 11GB -- Win 7 64 i5-6600K 3.6 GHz 32 GB RAM GTX970 4GB -- A-10C, F-5E, Su-27, F-15C, F-14B, F-16C missions in User Files
MarkyMark Posted July 11, 2023 Posted July 11, 2023 Also, if you can afford to wait until you get to LAR mode (as opposed to immediately firing at SHOOT), you’re much better off. Against older f4s, mig21s, etc, go ahead and reel them in a bit

Against older f4s, mig21s, etc, go ahead and reel them in a bit Uh, what are you trying to say? When range is the only factor "IN LAR" and "SHOOT" are the same. You will only get SHOOT on an enemy contact with the steering dot in the NIRD. Outside of the NIRD, or if friendly you will get "IN LAR"
