@Flappie I'm starting to think it's the AI that's triggering the stutters. Maybe with decisions or radio messages. I'm getting a frame time spike every time I get a message from ATC too.

Here are 2 tracks. First track, 4 190s come head on. Before the merge I got 150 FPS. Once the bandits got close I got severe stutters. After I killed my first bandit, it got relatively  smooth again, and once all bandits were down, it got back to 150 FPS, silky smooth.

Second track, same mission, without bandits. silky 150 FPS all the way.

So what if it's NOT my PC or my settings?

No, I don't get stutters at all when replaying your tracks in OB.

It goes like this in the first one: between 83 and 90 FPS for a while, then down to 73 FPS during  merge. When you start firing in the water, I get 65 FPS (this issue is already reported internally). But not a single stutter for me.

I'm thinking it might be caused by an external program or a DCS script.

Try this:

  1. Go to "Saved Games/DCS..."
  2. Rename the "Scripts" folder to"Scripts_bak".
  3. Replay your first track and check if stutters are still here.
  4. If they are still present, run the tasklist command in a "cmd" window, then copy-paste the result and send it to me in a personal message.

I advise you to use 45000 for the preload radius, it seems to be the sweet spot for 32GB of RAM (in my case), hope it can help a bit :c

I've just noticed I've always had the setting at 100, what the hell. I had it like that both, on my 16 GB config and my current 64 GB config. In both cases I enjoyed buttery smooth performance, ~10 ms frame times. Does slamming the slider all the way to the left make DCS use some default value that is not 100?

Yes all to the left is 1500 IIRC, but never 100

My Setup : i5-4690 3.50GHz + 24GB RAM DDR3 1600MHz + MSI RTX 2060 Super Ventus OC + 2 SSD + 4 HDD + Oculus Rift CV1 + TM T.16000M Hotas

SOLVED!!!

So @Flappie suggested I copy my DCS install from my D drive to C (both SSDs), and look and behold, it was buttery smooth. So the problem is coming from my D drive SSD - Adata Legend 710.

Many thanks to all of you for your suggestions and for bearing with me along this long and winding road.
