The new  spotting dots update is terrible for many of us, that's a fact. The ED forum attests to this. but unlike today's hotfix, no communication.
Absolute silence.
I would have simply liked ED to clarify the situation and give his point of view. But nothing. Just the forum which is filled with the same comments.

From the changelog:

  • Improved Spotting dots.  Adjusted appearance of spotting dots in VR to be close to their previous state. We are looking at feedback. Currently we are working on the advanced functionality for spotting dots rendering which will depend on VR hardware type and its properties which we hope to deliver in future patches to address difference in dots sizes between different VR devices and monitors.

I cant believe the only answer is we are working on it.... in future patches... It also happens not only with aircrafts but ground units too which makes the game unplayable. Or lets say UN-simulated.... or whatever.
I cant believe either we cant go back to a previous state and restore this option in a short term ... while they try to find a solution.

I haven't used it since the last patch.

LOL they said a little more than that.

At this point it's evident you just want something to complain about.

IT IS BROKEN!  You can't turn them off. This is the primary issue. OPTIONS > GAMEPLAY > Improved Spotting Dots On or OFF does nothing.

No, they're aren't communicating. They are repeating a PR blurb of "we are taking feedback and working on improving it". They have made NO mention of how the option is unable to be turned off which is fundamentally the issue. The people that don't want to use them CAN'T.

Hi Just a quick heads up "pardon the pun"  !

Trains in MT dont Deactivate and stay in game as zombies that go forever.

Its been reported and being worked on , i thought you may like to see.

If you do deactivate a train you can get this situation "see picture" and well lets say its not going to put you in a good mood you may even reach for a hammer !

Train wagons and Locomotives as spotting dots it will be raining cats and dogs next !

More bad news before you ask No you cannot shoot them down they dont exist as trains anymore.

try and have a nice Day !

I can delete this messege and pic if it messes with your thread let me know.

Fine. They haven’t said enough to satisfy you, but they’re obviously aware of the complaints and have said they’re working on the problem. Granted, not the specific part of the problem you’re concerned about.

I guess there’s no harm to rant and rage about it here, so knock yourself out.

I think the weird part is why the change was released at all. It's just broken in VR, so why release it? Why not just hold it back until they figured it out.

I imagine they were seeing the collapse in WVR participation and interest and decided something had to be done.

Personally, I think it is a shame they ever got involved in this. Going down the IC exclusion path and messing with the dot mod has been a series of own goals for ED not to mention a few other bad decisions all serving the same misguided purpose.

The other side of the coin is that my VR performance, as well as my buddy's, has never been better. For few days I just assumed ED had cracked the nut and everyone was seeing the same thing we were. I still suspect that's the case for the majority of players.

If that's what they were seeing in testing, it's completely understandable why the patch was released.

I didn't wonder why was the patch released. I wondered why was the change (to spotting dots) was released. Of course maybe they're tightly coupled, in which case I agree that more performance is definitely a good thing!

Sorry, my misunderstanding.

Yes, I, too, wonder why they haven't added a simple on/off switch (assuming that's doable within an acceptable level of effort)

One less variable to account for.

If everyone is forced to have them on, then you get 100% participating and possibly providing feedback.

Otherwise, the systems that need to be addressed the most will just have them off and not provide feedback.

There are other explanations, of course.

Yes, I had actually considered this too. It sounds like something I would have done.

Yeah that's a good point. Interesting that they put up a poll for VR headsets in their discord the other day

Spamming this into every unrelated thread going isn't going to get it fixed any faster, so please stop clogging the forums with it.

You won't like this, but the fact that you had so few replies or interactions with your original thread on this topic should indicate to you how many people are concerned about it.  I understand it's a game breaking issue for you, but there are lots of other issues that are game breaking for others and priority is going to go to issues directly affecting a larger group of people.  Should it get fixed? Yes.  Will it?  I hope so.  But it's not going to near the top of the pile of issues to be fixed.

If that was the intention I would think they’d just remove the setting from the GUI or have mentioned this themselves. As it is this comes across like a careless bug. This doesn’t guarantee participation since some people (like me) will just stop playing DCS until this is resolved.

The fact that it was possible for someone to mod the dots also means it was possible for players to cheat in this manner. Such settings need to be locked down and it’s very surprising ED didn’t realize this earlier.

So, no way to get rid of those squares as of now?

Non-VR? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Have you tried starting in 2D, turn off, play a mission to check, and then switch to VR?
There must be some silly setting somewhere.
