Sorry if this triggers someone, I have searched to no avail.

The new spotting dots for VR implemented for 2.9

I didn't have an autoexec.cfg in that location, so created one in notepad and pasted that line into it.

No joy, still got these horrible big dots all over the place, stand out even more to me as I play with no labels at all usually.

Any ideas to get rid of these please ?? or maybe I did something else super dumb ??

  • Improved “spotting dots” added (WIP):
    • Increased dot size at high resolutions
    • Zoom is not affecting dots size

In order to disable new “spotting dots” and revert to previous logic user can put “DotRendererExperiment = False” in autoexec.cfg file located in \Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config\

Ps...I never posted this in bugs as just because I don't know how to turn it off doesn't automatically make it a bug - right ? 🙂

  • Phantom_Mark changed the title to 2.9 VR Spotting Dots - can't disable ?

Did the Spotting Dot toggle make it today's 2.9 beta patch or update?

Yes.

I´m not at home right now to check but i think it´s in Gameplay tab or MISC. tab in DCS options menu.

About carrier ops: "The younger pilots are still quite capable of holding their heads forward against the forces. The older ones have been doing this too long and know better; sore necks make for poor sleep.'

Ok, turned improved spotting dot off, thank goodness!

But, is the spotting dot going to be fixed for good in the long term?

Reason I ask is that this has implications for MP.

Happy landings,

Talisman

Probably, unless ED is going to try to make "Everyone" Happy.

The checkbox doesn't solve the problem for me.  All objects look like the spaceships from the film "Arrival".

Are we on the same page?  It's a dropdown menu with two options.. On or Off.

It worked for me and I was getting pretty large and obvious grey to black boxes in VR prior to turning off the new logic.

I’m having the same problem.  I selected off under “improved spotting dot” and I still have the large black dots all over the place.  I’m on a G2 headset if that matters.

I don’t know. There is only one entry for the dots that I can find (under Gameplay). I am testing using mission 2 of the new Mi24 Revanche campaign. It has lots of helicopter and fixed-wing units flying just a few miles from the player. One helicopter departs to a tiny pixel as I would expect and want. After that though, it’s Big Squares everywhere. It’s like flying around a game of Pong! Quest 3.

Thanks!  I did that and also deleted the autoexec.cfg (just in case).  You are right, it is different than it was before restarting.  The squares are still there and I am still not a fan of them but they are MUCH smaller.

Realize when you turn this “off” it’s just reverting back to the 2.8 version where dots are visible for 30 miles at lower resolution. So this option really isn’t a fix.
