Hey, i have a really hard time acquiring targets, mainly because i can't see them.

If i'm hovering a good distance away at a low altitude behind a hill, and then i pop up to see if i can take out that AAA emplacement that i'm required to do for the mission, all i see is a mass of blue writing from all the other objects near it. That's if i have the tags enabled of course. But if i use the shkval screen, i can barely make anything out at all, especially not very flat AA nests.

Is there something i'm doing wrong? Or is it this awkward as hell for everyone?

Practice and adjust the shkval brightness and contrast to suite you better. Believe me i was having the same "problem" but after a lot of gaming sessions i completely remove the labels and i can now acquire targets 8km away.

Dart made some great labels, search in MODs, I made a post there. They are short and don't appear till you are within 4k. They will help you train to stop using any.

Zooming works pretty good, unless they are really hidden.

In that case send you wingman ahead to recon and download his data to your abris.

And then send him to do all the dirty work and you keep hovering and practicing. :)

It's awkward for everyone. My best efforts happen when I scan visually through the left side-door (preferably open). I never find bad guys with the Skhval.

Oh yeah, I also find it helpful to cheat by having the map display friendlies only and use F10 to ensure I'm not targeting red units. I justify this by assuming this gives me something akin to FAC/Field Commander input on a real battlefield.

You can customize your labels.lua. It's in your config/view folder. It's simple really. There are directions in the folder on how to do it and it's very customizable. Edit it with Notepad. I use Notepad++. Just back up your original.

Here is mine for your viewing pleasure. It displays a black ' symbol for ground objects. At 2000m I display the name of the object. That's it. Hey if they are enemy they are enemy. I don't need all the clutter of the additional info.

If I'm unable to detect enemies from a distance in hover, I then close in fast and low and fly parallel to the suspected location of the enemy. I then look out of the side window and try to locate smoke and tracers. Then I disengage and resume hover in a new location and scan the areas where I saw smoke and tracers.

I am on a 26 inch monitor and it didn't make it much easier. Hopefully they improve multi-monitor support on vista with the next patch.

Yes, but what resolution are you running at?

Cheers,

I use the zoom view a lot, it's found under axis commands in the options. I mapped it to the slider on my throttle. I really helps a lot if you are running at a very high resolution or are using a smaller screen.

Note: This is not the same as the magnification on the shkval

He clearly has not .... :gun_rifle:

Because he would have :joystick: realising he was going down in flames :megalol:

I mapped it to the slider on my throttle.

That sounds like a great idea. Now that I have my trackIR, I'm just waiting on my Cyborg X. That thing has 2 thottle sliders. So one for the engines and one for the zoom would be awesome ! Now I need to find that joystick around here.

Cougar user should use Vipers Blackshark profile. It is mapped like you sugested already. Zoom on the "antenna" knob. Throttle on the "range" knob. Works like charm.:pilotfly:

I think so... all i saw was tracers.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
