I am using the mod and like it very much.

Have a question, lets say I am flying a scripted campaign, I am not editing weather or nothing.

If I have the mod active, is the weather different than if I have the mod de activated? Does the mod changes default weather in missions when activated, or only when I edit weather and use the presets?

It won't change the weather in missions using the default weather presets. You will notice much better looking cirrus clouds though.

Nonfiltered, broken link from page 1 still points to v11. I guess they just haven't updated it properly yet. Filtered one above works fine, though. Interesting.

Looks like User Files isn't syncing for some reason. I tried updating it again but it still isn't showing the update.

For now you can go here and click the DOWNLOAD button: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/filter/user-is-bandit648/apply/

Don't click on the Details page, it will take you to version 11.

I hope ED implement your work in the future release of DCS.
Thank you @bandit648!!!

They are missing a trick if they don’t!
Bandits work is nothing short of incredible. The ‘feel’ of the environment with any of his presets is much more natural, and shows just how ‘gamey’ the ED sets are. Bandits sets are much more believable, and I’m not too shy to admit - I have been driving home from work before and thought to myself whilst looking above the traffic ahead “hmmm . . . Bandits Cirrocumulus . . . “.

This is a shining example of what a talented individual who really understands their subject, can produce. And we ALL benefit from it.

Really can’t praise this Mod highly enough. :notworthy:

Indeed @BIGNEWY and @Eagle Dynamics the mod is a truly a no brainer. Hope this makes it into a future "Weather - Update".

Thank you all for the positive comments! I'd really like to keep adding to the mod but I've sort of hit the limits of what the current weather engine can do. For example, I'd like to add more cirrus cloud textures. Currently the game can only use 4 texture files for cirrus. I'd also like to see better density and contrast in the clouds.

Hopefully the weather engine will make its way back into the development cycle for ED soon.

To clarify, I am not sure how to compare before and after. If my understanding is correct, not using any of the setting provided by the mod, there should be no different. So I dunno how to detect any performance loss with the mod.

During my own use, if there IS any performance loss, it is so small as to be negligible. But that’s just my own observation.

Does this weather mod effect performance ?

The perfromance impact of weather in general is mainly due to the rendering of the clouds. I don't see any reason to assume that the mod affects performance more (or less) than the default weather presets.

Not sure why Cirrostratus Type 1, 3 and 4 look so similar:

They are similar, just coverage amount increases incrementally.

Correct. There are no changes to the cloud rendering so there is no difference in performance to default clouds.

Heavy clouds with precipitation (with my mod, or default) does take a performance hit however. This is most noticeable in VR where flying through rain shafts can really tank performance.

After thinking for a while, I think I need to find a way to present the difference.

The cirrostratus should be very high base altitude or they won't look right. Should be between 20000 - 40000ft.

Hi, just found this and just started trying it out

I see your old instructons on how to make thunderstorms

Quote

To create thunderstorms:

1.) Sel ect NOTHING fr om the Clouds Preset menu
2.) Configure the base altitude as desired
3.) Adjust the thickness to something between 15000-30000ft
4.) You can choose any density setting but I added six new ones. Density 11 - 16 are tweaked for thunderstorms
5.) Choose Thunderstorm or Rain from the Precptns option
6.) I recommend adding a lot of wind and turbulence as well
7.) Experiment with settings to get the look you want and enjoy!

But I can't make the thickness farther than 6562 ft on the slider, and density only goes up to 10 now.

Assuming things have changed in updates?

Anyway, I am LOVING the cloud visuals- looking forward to learning what all these options are! This is quite incredible

Assume you have installed the weather mod correctly, this is what I get

Weather mod 17.jpg

It works for me.

Also, a shameless plug:

Also, after watching the latest ED newsletter, looks like many features of this mod have been incorporated into the main engine.
