@bandit648 FANTASTIC work Sir! You are the unsung hero of DCS for sure. Really looking forward to the release!

Are you able to implement a feature to have different weather conditions/ presets in different parts of the map somehow (for example splitting the map into 4 weather sections) ? Even if keeping the wind the same acorss the entire map (which I assume is the ED limitation).

And also, could explain what exactly are the limitations of the core ED engine with regards to weather at the moment? I understand wind is not something you can touch, and also there was no way of doing towering cumulus and CBs? And presumable no way of having the weather change from one preset to another preset as time goes by?

Sorry, just really curious. Can't imagine DCS without your weather work! Thanks again! Keep up the awesome work!

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback! You do a great job with your YouTube channel.

There are definitely some improvements that could be made regarding changing weather conditions. I have some ideas about that but it all needs involvement from the folks at ED. The current weather engine is fairly simplistic as we all know. One of the biggest limitations to the current system for me is the wind. Obviously wind is one of the most impactful weather conditions in aviation. Improvements to the wind simulation needs to be a priority.

The cloud rendering looks great, but the actual weather simulation of wind, turbulence, storm systems, precipitation, sea states all could use some dev time. I think doing something similar to the fog keys with changing weather/cloud presets would be a great start that wouldn't to complicated. That would give us much better changing weather conditions during missions.

I think its a great addition. Will it have a huge impact on VR Performance?

No, in general it's not going to cause any performance impact, except under heavy precipitation. Same as the default weather, flying through heavy rain or storms will drop your fps.

@bandit648

That question might have been answered, but, anyways, does the mod only change the mission.lua or does it change more? If the mod is on the server, is this enough for all clients to enjoy "your" weather?

It just looks fantastic. Awesome job.

Cheers,

PJ.

Every image generator (i.e., client) needs this mod installed. The only change to the mission lua file is a weather string (e.g., "Preset64"). If your local client doesn't have weather Preset64, or its definition is different than this mod uses (and the .miz author intended) since it's an ED preset the mod's author redefined, you will see different weather than people who do have the mod installed.

There is no "easy" button for this. Everyone needs the same version of this mod installed on their client.

Got you, thanks for the explanation. Perhaps you should contact ED and help them develop the weather engine and somehow make all your current work as part of DCS core somehow.

Either way, thanks again, looking forward to the next update 🙂

Bandit648's Weather Mod and ATMOS-X should have been part of the core of DCS World!

We fly in smooth conditions all the time, every single flight, not a bump in the sky, not a bump when entering a cumulus cloud, no turbulence whatsoever, no mountain turbulence either. Are there any real pilot in EDs team? This needs change, even other simulators that are more simple than DCS has some sort of turbulence.

MUST MUST have !!  Finally some efforts ..  Now turbulences that make sens  🙂     This is an awesome work !!!   Thank yo bandit648

AAAhhhh   yes  !!!!!!!!   Thank you..  DCS skies are DEAD..   Just so annoying way too smooth  I never ever flew that smooth   🙂  and turbulences are inexistent

One of the best comments.

Right but don't create more code than will tank the sim in VR even further.  Maybe when the graphical engine transits to Vulkan this could be added?

Amazing stuff @bandit648, your work is truly appreciated.

Not all of us are able to fly or can afford to fly with VR.  Not to be combative in any way, just trying to state that there should be a happy medium to cater to all, and this sim desperately needs work on wind/turbulence simulation.

...and make this an selectable option?  This way we can adjust atmospheric realism in accordance to our hardware!
