(Duxford airfield is much smoother) and smooth  tarmac.

Can you tell us which map you’re using to fly in and out of Duxford please?

Also, could I have a copy as a late Christmas pressie?

Only a paper map. 🙂

I mean that Duxford airfield is much smoother than a lawn where I measured friction.

Track of tailwheel failure taxiing gently in the Normandy hot start instant action mission at Villacoublay. Seems like maybe some sideways force on the wheel might be a factor?

Did a load of landings earlier as a test, even on to a smooth concrete runway not the dirt strips we use....same effect each time, float the Mossie in, tiniest of touches and wham tail strikes floor, smashes main gear back down and repeats, there is a stutter/jump as its touching down which is odd, the aircraft then oscillates left to right swinging off the runway with hardly any brakes and rolls to a halt. It's as if the tyres are hugely inflated and zero give in the suspension. Apologies for the cough 🤣 https://youtu.be/Yteb7q-RL3U?si=WT39KfcFYidrTBIh

Another smooth landing (<50 fpm) attempt, from 3 points of view.
No bombs nor rockets. 30% fuel
Manston airfield, Channel map
My flying is far from perfect, and RPM 2500 until touchdown is probably not standard procedure though. Just testing something different.

I saw it in your track, but taking control myself I was unable to reproduce it.

The bounce and porpoising is the main issue you landing couldn't be any smoother yet the tailwheel touches the floor and the main gear bounces up. There seems to be zero damping on the tailwheel.

There was an update to DCS.

I taxied out in the Mossie after it and thought it was DCS bugging out but it’s the Mossie.

Roll it along on any map now, any runway and you can’t miss the ‘vibrating’ from either internal or external views. I’ve got used to taking off with it but taxi too quickly and you’ll hear a silly sounding ‘breakage’ when the wheel gives up. Same as you can hear on the landing video above. Landings, though few and far between for me, often break the tailwheel.

On MP severs, if I see others flying Mossies I watch theirs jitter about too.

First thing I thought of when I saw the patch today. What about the buckled tailwheel on our Mossie then? - Nada. It hasn’t been rolled back and undone either.

Trouble is, there was an update. For me, the Mossie got broken or at best damaged in that update, at least the suspension did and it seems as if it’s planned to roll out (pardon the pun) to other modules in the future. If the current state of the Mossie isn’t improved upon I dread the day they update the rest of the hangar.

It's worse for me. Since installing the update. ! can no longer reach take-off speed to take off. Acceleration stops at about 70 mph!

Is this related to the tire and suspension this thread is about? And I cannot reproduce this, I have no issue getting well over 70 mph.

Please supply a track of this, I am not seeing it.

While taxiing at walking speeds the tail wheel bounce nearly makes me sick in VR.

I can only imagine how bad it is.

Can you let us know if you can see what we’re talking about please after checking those tracks?

I realise you’re probably diving about trying to answer everyone and it must be madness chasing tails half the day. I admire your patience at times.

(but hurry up) 😁 I’m kidding, I’m kidding. 🙂

Cheers.

I've got 3 tracks of 'mo bounce to the ounce'.

Channel, N2 and this one:

ChanMosWobble.trk 2 MB · 0 downloads N2MosWobble.trk 423.5 kB · 0 downloads MosWobble.trk 525.72 kB · 1 download

I can imagine. I started to wonder if it was something only I was seeing on my system.

Its odd, when I watch your track I see how bad it is for you, but if I take control of the track, while some bounce still, no where near as bad. Its very strange.

Oh that is odd. I’d love it to be something to do with my set up, if only so nobody else had to have it.

Good to know you can see what I’m on about though, it’s a start. 🙂

I’m certain it’s nothing to do with my peripherals. ie Warthog HOTAS, keyboard bindings etc.

I’ve ‘spoken’ to people in MP that see the same thing and hate it, some so much they’re gutted and won’t fly the Mossie as it is. There’s a few posts here and there too from various people having the same thing.

cheers for looking.

Yeah Its a problem that most certainly exists, but weird how it is worse for others and not for some.

I have reported how active the tail wheel is in general, it seems much too bouncy regardless, I included your tracks even though I cannot reproduce when I am controlling I do see it when I simply watch your tracks.

Well now it seems we're all agreed that there's a problem and some even consider the plane unusable in its current state, how about an immediate hotfix that just rolls the Mosquito back to how it used to be as a temporary measure? I'd vote for that if we had a poll.

Yes, please.  Give us the old Mosquito back until you have solved the problem.

Well, I couldn’t be more obvious about where my vote goes.

Let’s have the return of our wooden wonder. Pretty please with bells on. :pilotfly:- Promise not to moan about the wiper (for a bit).

I’ve explained to Mrs Slippa that at least for the moment, I do have bouncy jugs on the computer. Not always a bad thing 🙂.

NL, it's Channel Manston on the video, isn't it? I'd recommend testing on Normandy 2 version of it, as it seems to be somewhat more rough&bumpy than its Channel counterpart. I suspect If devs manage to tweak tailwheel in the future to be "N2-Manston-compatible", then it will be OK everywhere else.

With that being said, yesterday I tried to do a full taxi-takeoff-landing-rollout cycle on N2 Manston indeed and for the first time I was surprised NOT to suffer tailwheel strut failure (despite "usual" bounciness). I did it all with 50% fuel load, however, no ordnance.

So, returning from mission, lightweight, won't be a problem I guess, but first one has to taxi and takeoff with full fuel, ammo, bombs & rockets for said mission aaaaand this is where keeping the strut from collapsing is a challenge now.
