Distiler Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 (edited) ..and they are not "addons" ;) Stand alone sims, that will work together online (according to the plan). In the dcs main page it says addons "Due to the increased flexibility of the DCS system, additional fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter add-ons will follow shortly." But it's ok, those are just words, the important thing is what they mean to ED. Because I'm really confused, there seems to be too much ambiguity. ED always said there was going to be compatibility between modules/addons/whatever but from a couple of months ago the term "the plan" started to appear in the forums, like ED being skeptical to their own ability to link those modules (worrying). I bought ka-50 thinking I could link follow up aircrafts like everybody linked su-25t into lock-on (same menu, same options, just one more aircraft to choose) with the added functionality that it could work as an standalone product (like in il2 series - pacific fighters). I always thought in DCS as the basic platform (imagine lock-on but with 0 aircrafts to choose): menu/editor/campaign generator/physics/etc and modules/addons just adding aircrafts or helis with their FM. Am I wrong? But it seems for some people at ED if compatibility is reached it will be just online. Then I read Chiz and he said compatible single and online playing modes, so I'm even more confused. If it's online why can't be offline? I mean, will I be able to make an offline mission with a-10 using dcs:ka-50 terrain? Can someone clarify what is the plan for DCS please? what should I understand as a module or addon? will it be like Oleg's il2-pacific fighters "module" full compatibility? FOD Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 The thing I would like most in BS is improved pilot skill. Thats not anything ED can provide, its down to stick time! I am very happy with it as is, more than enough to keep me busy and in the wifes bad books!
Kula66 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 AAMs ... if they, and their associated systems and sub-systems, can be modelled right - that would be just fantastic!
experimental_pilot Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 I want to drive the Submarines and I want fly the Predator from the CP.
EtherealN Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Silent Hunter 4 is good for subs - and it's proper subs where you have to do the solution calculations largely in your head. :D (Well okey, there are some optical instruments and a mechanical computer available to keep the track once you have fed it the optically calculated course, speed and distance.) Oh, and since I actually mentioned the game - there are a bunch of mods for it to improve on it's realism. It's a bit survey in stock but modders have helped the situation a bit. Malleus Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 (edited) I'd like DCS to have an RTS command seat, but with each unit being played by a human. Mmm... The RTS command itself isn't a bad idea - in MP, one player controlling the movement of ground forces could make scenarios a lot more interesting and dangerous for the Ka-50 pilots (scattering convoys when attacked, maneuvering units between buildings, being unpredictable in general - AI can't do that). Talking about DCS Black Shark, that is. But even in the long term, giving a player control of one side's ground forces could make up for a lot of AI shortcomings (in AG operations). EtherealN Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Tbh, as far as easter eggs go, I want my wingman to sometimes report in as Stringfellow. As far as "RTS command", aye Malleus. I think it could offer some really powerful multiplayer experience, but it's difficult for me in my armchair (though my this is a regular oldschool office chair without armrests, but you know what I mean...) to judge how feasible it is to implement for ED compared to other things. It sure would be sweet if it was possible though.
