Santini Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 So in three days I've gotten a pretty good handle on flying this gem, but there is one problem I can't shake....these damn wheels. I'm not worried about navigation, weaponry ,or communications, I'm just doing takeoffs, crosswinds, downwinds, base, low approaches and full stops. I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten to put the wheels down....so Mr Developer, can I have a KA-50 with skids...please. lol never mind you guys have your plate full with the A-10....I'll just have to shake the cobwebs from my fossilized brain cells. Santini Posted April 18, 2009 Author Posted April 18, 2009 If I could I'd get the ground crew to weld them in place. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face." joey45 Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 ....so Mr Developer, can I have a KA-50 with skids...please...... not a bad idea... would probaly look nicer. AlphaOneSix Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Skids are for kids! Anyway, if I know I'm going to be landing and taking off a lot (i.e. training), I just leave the gear down.

SSneg Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 You should get a voice message to put the gear down every time you descend lower than 50m. Don't you? If you live to fly again, it's a successful landing. The plane being able to fly again is just a bonus.
Coolhnd1 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Or like in F4 where ATC tells you after they clear you to land to "Check Gear Down". I do get in the habit of checking it then so it might not be a bad idea in BS as well. -- CoolHand
EtherealN Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 You should get a voice message to put the gear down every time you descend lower than 50m. Don't you? No. To get that message you need to ascend above that level in the first place... I don't think 50m is the spot where the message is given though, but I never actually checked. I seem to get it usually when I'm getting down below 10 meters while travelling slowly, but as said I never really thought about it. According to my manual, the message is displayed on EKRAN at "extremely low altitude with negative vertical speed and speed<30 kmh", and is repeated with voice warning system. If you live to fly again, it's a successful landing. The plane being able to fly again is just a bonus.

Made.In.China.00 Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Winmen do say "gear up" every time they take off, that's usually my cue to check gear. But I still flew more than 2 missions with gear down all the time. Still, gear down is safer than gear up!:music_whistling:
Skydoc Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I know this is a bit smartaxe, but I just have one word for this: CHECKLIST. You gotta have'em and use'em. This sim is complex enough to actually require them to do things properly - at least the first month or so of flying. . Skydoc, out! hassata Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Dude-you got bigger problems. Like Mike Tyson taking an interest in the DCS Series :). [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
muamshai Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 My woman in the cockpit always reminds me to gear down once I am below 15m. Adjusting safe radar alt before taking off won't hurt :) This space is available for your advertisement
