What do you want me to say? You have seen the screenshot of my ME? You have seen the screenshot of my Liveries folder? I can use these liveries in DCS without downloading/installing this liveries mod.

To proof this I have started DCS with a new created folder in Saved Games (means no mods, no liveries, no scripts):

Empty liveries.jpg

Empty Mods_Tech.jpg

As you can see I still can load those liveries:

DCS 2024-09-28 17-52-20.jpg

And a screenshot of the loaded mission:
DCS 2024-09-28 17-58-56.jpg

I am just curios why I can use these liveries without having any liveries installed?

1. I quote your message by mistake. Please disregard. I did not want to dispute with you anything or introduce your incompetence. Just tried to assist buceador in his enquiry .

2. Kind suggest, in future please be a little bit more polite with unfamiliar persons. Promise, I'll not disturb you anymore.

Where exactly was I unpolite against you? Maybe it sounded harsher as intended, that's true, so I apologize for that.

The sentence "did not want to ... introduce your incompetence" however sounds really unpolite. I guess it wasn't meant this way.

Just to clarify, I've been part of a modding team for some years and create liveries myself, so I think, I know what I'm writing (in most cases 😉).

Link please?

Yes, I had to download this one:

Insurgent Pack (digitalcombatsimulator.com)

I never had them in my install of DCS nor I recall ED announcing these as a standard.

I have investigated this a little more.

What I did:

1. I deactivated all mods in the DCS root directory

2. I did a cleanup and a slow repair including additional files

3. I renamed my Saved Games\DCS folder, so DCS created a new clean one at start (no mods, no, liveries, no scripts)

But as you can see: I still can use these liveres for the Insurgent AKM unit.Screen_240929_084403.jpg

Screen_240929_084633.jpg

So my conclusion is: Originally this liveries package created by Eightball wasn't included in the official DCS installation. But now it is (not sure since when) and the download of the separate liveries package from the User Files section isn't necessary anymore. The other possibility would be: I have a secret Special Edition of DCS (just kidding).

Maybe Eightball or someone of the DCS team could bring more clarity into this.

But if that were the case then the last DCS update would have installed them (and it didn't).  I am sure this livery set is not part of the standard DCS install.

For my understanding: the unit “Insurgent AKM” is present in the Red Force Infantry list of the mission editor, but you only can choose the Default skin?

Nope. I didn't have those extra skins until I added it recently.

So not part of default DCS. But as skins they are not considered mods. And can't br removed by removing mods and run a repair.

We both are right. I found this liveries package is part of the official campaign "DCS: F/A-18C Inherent Resolve". Of course as part of an official DCS campaign it will not be removed by a cleanup and repair or by deactivation of community mods. So in the end, it isn't part of the core DCS but part of an official DCS module. I knew I never installed this Liveries package separately. Thanks for the help to solve this riddle.

Think he meant “imply” rather than “introduce”. Which still sounds impolite, but not intentionally.

I agree we need more assets for the COIN missions, but also we need the proper tactical employment and doctrines also. I'm not sure if the Mission Editor can replicate the conflict in a semi realistic manner. We'd have to have them mixed in with civilian populations, and the maps would also have to have a "zone of control" aspect to it also. And no go and no fire zones near the Pakistani border.

Also, need to FOB's to be more accurately shown, and attacks against them randomized between rocket attacks, mortar attacks, sniper harassment and so forth. IF we could get this done, it'd be hours and hours of boredom, then hours of excitement, then rinse and repeat. Lots of fights in the fighting season, and very little over the winter season..etc...

But yes better assets are needed.

The tactical aspects (no go zones) etc. is up to the Mission builders and you can already create a LOT of stuff with mission scripting. What we really need is assets, especially civilian/environment stuff, like the pickup trucks without armement. The insurgent model without the Ak (unarmed) etc. to make a living and breathing world and to finally be able to create meaningful representation of Rules Of Engagement.

Especially with all those asymmetrical conflict focused maps, where ROEs are a key element to the tactics and restrictions.

I've found that allying the insurgents with CTF Red (which might not be too significant a stretch) smooths over the gaps yawing crevasses in the 'Insurgent' set.  Also gives them air and naval assets.
