Sorry if reported or discussed before (did a forum search, but couldn't find this)

I notice in VR, that the "dynamic" canopy reflections from the sun, are quite different in the left and right eye (VR lens). Although I do understand that the images of the left and right lens are not identical (hence the depth perception in VR), this difference in reflection seems off.

This is most noticeable when you look at the reflection, place the sim in pause, close your left eye, then open your left eye and close your right eye.

I find the effect slightly "disruptive/inconvenient" (not sure if that's the correct English word for it) and I was wondering if I'm the only one experiencing/noticing this. It's a bit similar to the issue we had when the new cloud system was just released and in VR people saw differences in the left and right eye.

Just to emphasize, I'm talking about these reflections:

(the ones you see appear on the inside of the canopy when you roll the aircraft with the sun in your back)

(so I'm not talking about the "static" cockpit instruments reflection)

Yes, I have the exact same problem.

And another one is, this kind of reflection is only on the right side of the canopy. No matter what I'd tried, I couldn't reproduce this reflection on the left side.

F16 Quick Action Mission, Syria, Cold and Dark.

Edit: Track uploaded.

As soon you close the Canopy you can see the reflection on the right side, and no matter what I try, always only on the right side. And in VR the pictures in each eye are a way different. I have a feeling, this bug is an old one saying "Hello again". 😉

Edit 2: My reflections are not as bright as one can see in the pictures of the first posting. It seems to be a mod that makes it so bright. Nevertheless, all the said points still stay.

Reflections change with position, so each eye always gets a different reflection. A curved glass makes it much prominent. In real life it looks natural and we don't even think about it. In VR it looks somewhat weird.

That's not the point here. The view angle and the timestamp for both eyes are the same. The difference of how big the picture of this reflection is, is 2 times. And for me, the most important part is, this kind of reflection is always only on the right side of the canopy, never on the left side. On the left side is also a reflection, but much more shifted to the pilot direction, and really tiny.

If I fly straight into the sun, the reflection should be in the middle or on both sides, but never only on one side, and for sure, never always only on one special side.

Hi @BIGNEWY or @NineLine

Sorry, but tagging this report as "missing track file", is just nonsense... This happens everywhere and all the time as long as you are sitting in a Viper and the sun is shining. I can post a trackfile, sure, but it's just as easy for your team to just start any instant action free flight mission. Obviously, this can only be reproduced if tested in VR. The issue won't be visible in 2D.

The "can't reproduce part", ok. Strange, but ok (others have been able to reproduce, as can be seen in the various replies above)

Again, my bug report is about the (big) difference in canopy sun reflection, seen with the left eye and the right eye. Although a slight difference would indeed be seen in real life, the difference in DCS is just wrong and unrealistic (and makes it feel a bit like looking cross-eyed). Perhaps this is something you only start seeing after you focus on it. But once you see it, it can't be unseen and is quite annoying on the eyes.

Reporting the same identical issue, it is very disturbing. Isn't there an option to disable the reflections until it's fixed?

Ok, tried the track as well, and I saw no issue. The only time anything on the canopy appeared in one eye is if I got too close to the glass and one eye was outside the glass.

Is there any mods involved in this issue? I know there are some reflection mods so let me know if that might affect it at all. ALso if you can give me a picture example maybe I can better replicate it. Sorry.

Hi @NineLine, thanks for picking this up. Please read my OP carefully:

I'm not saying I see the reflection in one eye only, I'm saying there's a (big) difference in what the left and right eye see.

Once you see the reflection, put the game on pause, close your left eye, then open your left eye and close the right eye: you'll see the difference

(and although a slight difference might be understandable/realistic, the current difference is too big and causes cross-eyed effect)

I understand about how reflections work and as eye's have an offset, there's also a slight difference in what each eye sees, but when you look at the screenshot from NineLine, you can see the difference between left and right eye is quite big (depending on the angle, this difference gets bigger/smaller)

image.png

I suppose that the reflection itself is a bit of artistic impression by ED. I mean I assume the reflection textures are programmed by ED and not automated some way (I don't know how that stuff works 😅). Some will say the reflection is too "white" or "big" others will say it should be bigger or more bright. What bothers me, is that my left eye is seeing something very different than my right eye. In real life that that difference is far less notable.

(I don't know how to make a screenshot showing both VR lenses like NineLine did. Otherwise I could add some more examples)

In the F-16 under certain conditions you get almost no reflections in one eye only and plenty on the other eye.

I suspect this is due to the screen space reflection technique, other simulators in VR suffer the same issue. It would be nice an option to disable canopy reflections in VR only.

You can disable reflections in the Special options for the F-16, obviously you would need to turn it back on when not using VR if you wanted it.

That's only for the "static" cockpit reflections (so the mfd reflection and such), not the sun glare reflection mentioned in this thread.

Isn't that option only for static reflections?

I think there‘s 2 settings. One for canopy reflections, one for MFD reflections, whereas the MFD ones are static
