Poptart Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 (edited) The trim ball actually functions unlike the Apache. I find the vibration a good indication of ETL which makes it easier to know when to add or remove power. Tail rotor feels much better than the apache, too. Edited June 8, 2024 by Poptart 3
RealDCSpilot Posted June 8, 2024 Posted June 8, 2024 (edited) Is there any data about retreating blade stall conditions? Where is the threshold? What are does and don'ts? Had to quick dive a couple of times to dodge missiles and ended up falling from the sky like a stone. It seems to switch very quickly and there is no way to get controls back. Sadly there is no update to Simshaker out yet, normally i get the haptic feedback long before it happens. Another thing: ground effect. It kinda kicks in like with a delay and a bit to much?? I'm used to the soft cushion of air in the other helicopters in DCS, but in the OH-58 it kinda works bit like a trampoline (?) I sit on my Warthog base plate on my PC chair to keep my stick steady.. have never bothered properly mounting it to anything lol..I likely have the most un-ergonomic setup in DCS, but it’s what I’m used too and have zero issue flying any of the DCS choppers Edited June 9, 2024 by Spetz

XD i mounted my winwing to the warthog base and sit on it. Works great for me as well, been doing it that way for years.

You may be encountering RBS (Retreating Blade Stall) or the effects of Dissymmetry of Lift on the controls. The FAA has a free publication on rotorcraft. Then after a few moments, it will start to climb at an alarming rate and before you know it you are 200 ft in the air. Maybe I'm drooping the rotor system and don't have the audible clues (and even warnings) I am used to in the Apache? Edit: Just noticed another thread where this was acknowledged and is being looked into... my thoughts exactly i come in for a perfect landing all of a sudden i'm climbing like a rocket good thing it's been reported as a bug and a bit off topic some servers the stingers are pretty deadly at a good range and on 4ya today i couldn't get a stinger to lock on to save my life right behind an su27 can the servers alter the characteristics of missiles, radar strength, etc ?

Iron Sights Posted June 14, 2024 Posted June 14, 2024 So far so good for me on the flight model. I flew a bit more aggressively today and still found no surprises. I will take a deep dive this weekend but enjoying so far. Yet to take it out on a mission. Still learning the systems. 1
YoYo Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 (edited) According me the flight model is very ok, realistic and done good. One thing only - the ground effect is too small, its present and I feel it but Id like to feel it a little better, the rest is very ok. Wostg Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 sick burn from ED in the patch notes lol, don't take that lying down polychop I can think of nothing heavier than an airplane I can think of no greater conglomerate of steel and metal I can think of nothing less likely to fly

Wostg Posted June 22, 2024 Posted June 22, 2024 (edited) Woops I read the Chinook's packed feature list in the newsletter as 'ED' instead of 'DCS' for some reason 'Unmatched helicopter flight dynamics that only DCS can provide.' Is the unmatched flight dynamics is what's being represented by the AH64 apache's FM? Because honestly - the OH58 has blown all previous experiences of a FM out of the water for me - and that on day 1 release. Edited June 24, 2024 by Dangerzone 2
