As I am particularly interest in how good the module flies and unable to tell just from video reviews, without a way to test this and see for myself I regret to say that I wont be buying the module.

I don't have a single chopter yet, but things might change with this one. Are modules from 3d parties also on discount when time comes?

Sometimes, depends on whether the 3rd party wants to partake. Use the free trial on some of the existing helicopters or try the OH-6 and UH-60L mods to get a feel for things. The OH-6 mod in particular is excellent.

Per the above response, and from a couple of other interviews and comments, there will not be a trial opportunity. Based upon what I understand is that the License agreement and in line with the assistance provided by Bell Helicopters, there would not be a trial period or review. Have to by it as is.

If I am incorrect, then maybe a Moderator can correct my understanding.

Free trial would be the only thing letting me know if I would enjoy this more than the other helos I already have.

It falls under your own paradox. It is a light recon chopper that flies excellent without any vices. Better armed than Gazelle, it is by far the best chopper to fly online with

Campaigns will come. If your into transport only this is not for you. If you like Gazelle you will love this. It is your loss not ours

Exactly. I know I'll buy it, its just a matter of time. And it will be my 1st chopter in DCS.

So you can buy it without any hesitation @fapador as well, and I'm sure you will at least like, if not love it.

Never having flown a chopper in DCS, I’d say go and have a look at one of the free mods first as WD40 said.

Especially the OH-6A from Tobi & Eightball. It isn’t an easy starter but has all the characteristics to give you a good idea of what to expect from flying Helis in DCS.

For someone like Nealius who already has other choppers, as he says, the only way to check it out is to check it out. - What I like about a module might not be something someone else agrees with. We all have different tastes.

I bought the Kiowa on release. I was still pretty fresh to flying choppers and had the Huey, Gazelle, OH-6A and Apache already but I’d only really flown the OH-6A and the Huey for any amount of time. I found the Kiowa a doddle to fly straight from the off. If anything I thought it might be too stable or I might have engaged the autopilot, it was making me look better than I thought I was.

One night I got on a MP server and tried the Gazelle. With a few pointers from other lunatics on the server (believe me, there are many 😄) pretty soon I was tearing through the trees at full speed and chucking it around all over the place laughing my arse off while I was doing it. I’m a big fan of the Gazelle now, it’s pretty rapid. The Kiowa is a bit more sedate. I love the look of it and it’s packed out with some good bits and bobs. It has a really simple to use autopilot that works, it’s a good little chopper.

Now we’ve got the Chinny, which at the moment, for me, flies a bit like a fat stretch-Kiowa only quicker. I’m not an expert, it’s just my take on em and there’ll be a hundred different opinions on all of that which is why the trial thing is a good idea. As it is, apparently there are people cheating the system so the devs don’t get paid for their work. Trouble with not entering the trial means you have people that want your module but will hold off unless they can try it. Devs still get no money.

I don’t know the ins and outs of how people cheat the system. It isn’t something I have anything to do with but by not entering the trials, developers are losing money that could be in their pockets. Would-be pilots of your modules are missing out too.

Just to plant an earworm for those still on the fence. I’m gonna have a bit of air in me Kiowa as they’re not bad little birds ya know 🙂. You may as well too, sulk later if you don’t like it. But if you do…? :pilotfly:

UH 60 and OH 6 mod will give an idea what choppers are like in DCS for sure.
OH 6 will give an idea on Huey and other hands on choppers. UH 60 a taste of lighter choppers to fly.

I found the OH-6A to be a little twitchy after the upgrade to 1.3 but not sure if that is partially to do with the DCS patch as well as that affected some controls. Easy to sort though just by adding some curves to the control axis.

I always recommend the UH-60L for getting used to hovering, it's a little easy to learn the basics and then progress from there, I think it's a decent mod and fun to fly with the weapons mod added. I quite like the MH-60R that used the UH-60L as it's base model and easy to install.

Some of them are, the last sale on Steam had third party such as the Gazelle and maps on sale so they should have them on the DCS website, plus the DCS site has more frequent sales than Steam.

Amazing idea, thx so much for the heads-up.

I did download and try OH-6A for my very 1st helicopter run. And man, it got me confused, haven't been in that kind of situation before, ever. It really is very different from anything else I have flown so far.

The start was spectacular, destroyed few building near by (just in case I set invulnerability to on), flipped sideway few times, and eventually after two minutes or so, I got it in the air, wobbling of course. You really need to pay attention to what the machine is doing, where it is turning or leaning. Then I just trimmed it out, and I was flying. Landing is different story, will leave that for some other day, enough of surprises for today.

Amazing stuff indeed, really really impressed with "flying" the helicopter for my very 1st time in my life, and I can say it was a success, and just👍

🤗🤩😃

In fairness, the OPs statement and need to publicly announce that he won't be buying the module comes across as a bit arrogant. He could find literally dozens of reviews of the flight model on youtube, reddit, the ED forums, etc, but these reviews, a couple of which are from actual Kiowa aircrew, aren't up to his standard?

Judging by the previous iterations it is totally justified to be cautious and ask of a trial. In fairness all other modules do have a trial and uh-1h is a Bell product as well so I dont buy the crap that its a Bell contract thing...

Accusement of being arrogant is an arrogance by itself the way you say your statement and I am pretty sure there are many others who would want to try before they buy another product that doesnt meet up to their standards....

As far as kiowa pilots video reviews are concerned I only know of Casmo and I happen to have some rotorcraft hands on  experience myself.

Why it ain't up for trials beats me. Not my decision though. Going on sale? Won't expect that in the first year.
Cheers!

If you're worried it flies like the Gazelle, it doesn't.  It's good.

I believe you can get a refund on Steam, within a 2 hour playtime window.

To be fair, sometimes a trial is necessary not so much because it's not a good module but because you are not sure if it's your 'cup of tea'. I bought the F14 because of rave reviews. And I agree it is a very well done module. But I only flew it a couple of times and now it's been in the hangar for many months because it just wasn't for me. For that reason, I avoided the F4 although I know it is another great module. I can only say if you like helos like the Apache and Gazelle, you can't go wrong with the Kiowa.

@OP that is totally understandable. I have to tell you, that I also bought the Gazelle and that is all I am going to say about that. I read and picked through all the reviews considering Polychop's long and difficult road with the Gazelle. I finally pulled the trigger and bought it yesterday. I have to say it is awesome! I was a hard critic of The devs on FB about the Gazelle and how long this Bird was taking buit I have to say, I am really liking it so far. Its a little boring at times but is awesome flying  it a low altitudes, where she shines! Is is worth $70? Well that depends on you I guess. Good luck and maybe there will be a "try before you buy".
