ST0RM Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 VR FPS has been reported as extremely poor in the Chinook, already. We've been assured they're looking at optimizations, but unfortunately nothing has been passed to us to allow it to be played. 1
Digitalvole Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 (edited) I came here to ask if the fps has improved, alas it seems not. I’d love to get the chinook and Afghan map, not yet I guess. Edited December 15, 2024 by Digitalvole

I have almost all modules and have tested in many maps but as soon as the full cockpit model loads in my FPS are very low (mostly below 10) in both single player and multiplayer, and often leads to game crashes. I feel like it may have something to do with all the digital screens in the aircraft. The in game performance even in the Apache is good and I can often get full 72 fps (on 72hz mode on the quest 3). I'm running an overclocked i7-13700k and rtx 4080 and 64gb ram. The DCS log is attached. Any suggestions are appreciated (I have attempted things like lowering cockpit display resolution but with almost no effect). I'm almost a bit embarrased to send it as weirdly I did both a single player and a multiplayer mission just now, and my FPS were better than I have ever had in the 47 - must have known i'd been moaning about it and got itself into gear haha. There were some fps drops and i'd say the average fps was slightly lower still than on other aircraft, but as i'm sure you'll see in the log i was getting 36 and above at times so was a lot better than the sub 20s I had been getting before. I dont think I had adjusted any settings before hand either.. so not sure whats helped! Log is attached Many Thanks Nathan dcs.log

unclesneep Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Have to agree . Chinook performance is by far the worst fps out of all my other modules..no matter what map..but Afghanistan is a literal sideshow on my crystal

It maybe worth removing the unofficial mods, deleting metashader2 and fxo folders and allowing DCS to create new ones. DLAA might be worth a try to see if you notice a difference. I have asked the team about more optimisation again, hopefully something can be done to help. thank you edit: Merged threads 1 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? fjacobsen Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 One easy (partly) fix would be to simply give us the option to use 2K textures. Especially for VR it wouldn´t decrease quality in any noticable way. It´s really a shame for an otherwise fun Helicopter. 4 1 | i7-10700K 3.8-5.1Ghz | 64GB RAM | RTX 4070 12GB | 1x1TB M.2. These 4K cockpit textures and the super high LOD model are killing things. Edited December 27, 2024 by ST0RM 1
Maduce Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Performance for me drops by at least 25% I have i9 13900K, 4080 super, 64gb Ram, DCS dedicated 4tb M.2 SSD, Windows 11, and use VR (Crystal). 1
LuseKofte Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I can see the frustration of investing in high end PC just to have to tune down settings for one or two modules, I might find myself in that situation soon enough, but with my 3080 and old i7 I have no noticeable difference in performance cross the board. but my graphics is tuned down pretty much 3
fjacobsen Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 With the latest update it seems they have divided the textures into two: Cockpit_Cargo_CH-47F_Textures.zip Cockpit_CH-47F_Textures.zip 1 | i7-10700K 3.8-5.1Ghz | 64GB RAM | RTX 4070 12GB | 1x1TB M.2. I noticed on S/P Syria, I've got smoother and flyable FPS in VR. Not stellar, but better. In Afghanistan, it's terrible. So this tells me that the map is also a major problem. Hopefully more work can be done, as FPS across several airframes have been negatively affected from the 24 Dec 2024 update. 1

AndreNL Posted April 1 Posted April 1 My Nvidia 4090 is melting with the ch47, all other modules are working smoooooth... But only the ch47 gives my a lot of stutters. Is there a way we can help with the issue? 1
av8orDave Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Man, performance on this one is bad. I have a 4090, 7950x, 64G DDR5, and VR in the Chinook is still nearly pointless. I see they were working on it in September. Still working on it? 1

But then, the Chinook was updated with some fixes regarding the texture loading or something. And now the mod does nothing for it, while it does for other modules.
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Yes the only thing that does work is reducing Textures to Medium - just for this 1 module. 1 Spoiler Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 96GB G.Skill Ripjaws M5 Neo DDR5-6000 | Asus ProArt RTX 4080 Super | ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E GAMING | Samsung 990Pro 2TB + 990Pro 4TB NMVe | VR: Varjo Aero VPC MT-50CM2 grip on VPForce Rhino with Z-curve extension | VPC CM3 throttle | VPC CP2 + 3 | FSSB R3L | VPC Rotor TCS Plus base with SharKa-50 grip | Everything mounted on Monstertech MFC-1 | VPC R1-Falcon pedals with damper | Pro Flight Trainer Puma OpenXR | PD 1.0 | 100% render resolution | DCS graphics settings Win11 Pro 24H2 - VBS/HAGS/Game Mode ON
Wood Posted April 16 Posted April 16 Yeh. That ain’t going to happen. I pay good money for the module I want to be able to use it as intended not degrade it so I’ll wait until it’s fixed 1 Cheers Wood Windows 10, Intel i7-6700 CPU @3.40GHz, 32GB ram , GTX 4060Ti

With it you can override only CH47F's textures, instead of reducing everythink to medium Edited April 16 by Darcaem 2

But, those got ironed out in a reasonable time frame. I expect the same will happen to the CH-47, but it's surprising to see it take so long. 2 Reformers hate him! Crash * Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Optimization is progressing very slowly indeed. It is actually consistently poor. Not only does the CH-47 mess up your gaming experience, other MP players also have a significant FPS loss when the CH-47 flies by or just stands around. You don't like being seen as a Chinook pilot in MP.
