No, I'm from Zagreb - Croatia! Thanks!

Just be aware that they have none in store, you have to order it in advance, so don't make the travel for nothing. :smilewink:

The stick center versus elevator position bug is a big odd, as it is odd that Logitech has to interact with particular SIM developers to fix that issue.

It might be a simply drivers bug. However I think I'll wait and see if they will fix this issue then I'm gonna consider buying it.

The issue described is from the slight force dead zone, which allows the stick to lean forward against the force feedback "spring". The stick centers perfectly, but when you let go, the optical dead man switch turns off game force and substitutes the default centering. There is some looseness, to avoid high power usage of the motors at rest. We are looking at tweaking the driver to have the stick rest at center. Its not a difficult fix.

We are also working with sim developers to improve the in-game looseness of forces. There hasn't been a good reason to put in extra effort on force feedback until G940. We find that the developers are eager to incorporate better feedback now that the work will be rewarded.

Thank you Mark for explanation. And I think I understand what you're saying about improving the in-game looseness of force - I see on example of G25 how the feel differs between the racing sims. It's all up to developers to squeeze everything from a great device that can enhance the immersion, right? The ability is already there.

Mark, is the dead man switch function you mention going to allow the stick to hold a trimmed position (in DCS:BS) if the pilot takes his hand off of the stick?

Thanks Ruggbutt, great review!!

There's only one thing i want to know.....

Is the FFB strong enough to hold the stick in position when trimmed in the KA50 while doing 200kph??

Right now there is only one stick that does that out of the box; the MSFFB2...........

Unless the answer to my question is in the affimative at 100%, this is a purchase i will never make.

Looks like a great Hotas at a reasonable price otherwise, tho!!

The main thing I want to know is how stiff the motors can hold the stick at the trimmed position, if it beats my msFFB 2 in that regard I'll get it.

As it is with the msffb2, I have to take my hand off the stick very carefully after setting the AP so as not to move it by accident (eventhough I "disengaged" it's optical dead man switch).

Edit: @ above: I don't understand what you mean, what does speed have to do with it?? If the FFB can hold the stick at 2kph, it can hold the stick at 200kph just the same(?)

Because the stick will be far forward of center at 200kph...the weight of the stick will be pressing forward, and i would like to know if the FFB is strong enough to counteract that....

The MSFFB2 has a really light stick with the 'deadmans' switch....but I have modified mine to have a CHproducts Fighterstick on top of the FFB base...and it is strong enough to handle it.

Also, can the optical 'deadman's switch' be disabled via software, or would i have to tape/paint over the LED's?

Hey ruggbutt, maybe you could record a video how FFB actually works and add it to your review?

Here's proposed video layout.

On left side, show the stick in different trimmed positions, on right side show how the 3D stick within DCS reacts to trim inputs.

 Offcourse, never thought of that.. probably because I have the same stick :P

I also modified mine abit, a logitech gamepad (to get an analog hat and a bunch of buttons) and some epoxi went on it... :)

Seams we're pretty much wondering about the same thing.. FWIW, I heard (I think Logitech_Mark said it on the simhq forums) the G940 stick uses the same motors as the G25 wheel (but different transmission). I understand that wheel is loved for it's high quality..

Thanks Ruggbutt. I like your review, too and mentioning that "Logitech has done its' homework a million times" ;). Are children working in that company, by the way ;)? Just kidding. Not to be taken seriously.

Although i have already had failed my decision to buy the stick as soon as I've heard of it and already ordered it, i've gained a more detailed insight of what's awaiting me by your review. Thanx again.

How often it happened to me that after engaging the autopilot at low level a short sneeze shook my body and arm and... you surely know the next step (3x Ctrl+E).

Just put a bit of tape on the LED to have permanent FFB on the MSFFB2

Hey, Mark! Did the U.S. release date hold for 3 September? Amazon still has it listed as pre-order. Maybe an explanation of what Logitech means by "release" would help. Has stock been pre-positioned at retailers and release means available for sale? Or (and I hope not :)) is it more like a release to manufacturing or distribution and we have to wait another several weeks for the pipeline to fill?

Also, any chance on knowing who got pre-release eval hardware (besides Ruggbutt) so we can hound them for reviews? :smilewink:

Hey guys!

After reading some info (gossip) on the Saitek X65F and another review on the G940, I decided to cancel my order and wait until the new X65F comes out.

It appears that the accuracy (too big deadzone) is not given. Although my MS-FF2 is a great stick, the deadzone is an issue that I can't overlook and ignore.

Although it may be much more expensive and without rudder pedals, if it appears to be better and more accurate I'll give the X65F a new home. And if it should be as rugged as it looks like, you'd have a stick for at least 10-15 years.

Note to swedes (and possibly other europeans as well) komplett.se/inwarehouse.se has the g940 for preliminary delivery on the 15th of september.

Hope the community is able to figure out how bad the deadzone is before that ;)

Any word on when the Logitech site might ship the G940's? It's a bit strange and frustrating that I could have ordered one from Amazon or other sites and already have it, yet Logitech's own site sits there at pre-order status.

I understand the throttle requires the joystick to plugin/power up, but I have a joystick I like (or just bought rather) and don't have room for pedals anyway.

Any chance the throttle could have an adapter or something to be available for purchase alone?

I'd dish out quite a few bones for that split throttle without hesitation- just don't need the other pieces (at the moment....)

If anyone has any idea- I'd appreciate the info. Would adore split throttles for jets (don't want those bulky mani/prop/mixture quads)

Logitech has not indicated any plans, or interest (so far), in selling the throttle controller by itself. Even if you could adapt it over with some converter plug (like a game port to USB adapter), it probably wouldn't end up with all ofthe functionality it has when combined with the Logitech 940 FFB Stick.

I'd say that your best bet is to resign yourself to buying the set, and possibly selling your current stick to someone else.

Other possibilities, in no particular order:

- Wait, and buy Saitek's X-65 FFB HOTAS when it comes out. Its split throtle controller looks like it may even be better than Logitech's (depending on what you want / like / need, I suppose). No rudder pedals included in Saitek's upcoming offering.

- Offer to buy the Logitech split throttle from smeone who bought the set, but is only interested in the FFB stick. You will then have to figure out how to make the throttle into a useable USB device. Leo Bodnar's boards are well suited to the task, but financially, it probably makes mor sense to just buy the G940 HOTAS set.

- Find an old Suncom SFS split throttle (game port device), and then convert it to a USB device. Once again, see Leo Bodnar's boards.

- If you are talented in the right disciplines, make your own. Yet again, one of Leo's boards can make it a USB device.

As an alternative to buying one of Bodnar's boards to make the conversion, you can look at scavenging the USB controller board out of some used USB joystick or throttle controller. Figure out how many axis / buttons / hats you need, and look for an old USB stick and/or throttle that has enough to cover what you need.
