Mine died last week, it was the original version (not the refresh) and it worked for three years but I regreted buying it much earlier because the coating of the keys began to vanish after a few month, making them unrecognizable and ugly. Two weeks ago it started to go nuts and specific keys (like the space bar) stopped working sporadically. Not at all the kind of quality I expected when I bought it.

There's some similar problem with the G9 mouses where the rubberized grip starts peeling off after some time (about half a year). But the replacement grips are $5 so there is an easy solution (or maybe try with that Rokkat Kone mouse, though it'd be another expensive venture). Logitech Illuminated looks and works great, though (the only problem is that I can't get it to run in the BIOS setup, I guess because of some USB power issues).

I just hope this G940 will be a high quality product justifying the price; when I was buying a joystick for a friend some years ago, I read about a lot of issues with some of their previous models which stopped working after a few months so I went with the Saitek Cyborg Evo which is pretty decent quality-wise.

I have high hopes for this new product because of the FF, the trims and the dual throttle (being of the F-15 design doesn't hurt, either). I expect the competition will be forced to start working on some similar FF products. With the next DCS modules and some other upcoming sims, future looks bright at the moment :)

it is very tempting...

might start saving. Gonna see what Saitek pull out of their hat first though.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Looks interesting, but we will have to see about durability or teething problems. I mean it's their very first hotas (am i wrong?), and I somehow doubt the very first pieces will achieve a long life which is kinda necessary for 300$, isn't it?

No doubt, but i'll wait for feed back here first of coarse.:smartass:

I hope so as well, especially in regards to CH. Their controllers are very good, no doubt about it, but most of their current designs are getting a bit "old" now and could stand for an update (especially WRT their Pro Throttle). Will be interesting indeed to see how the competition responds to the G940.

The man who designed the X52 also designed the G940 so it's not really their first HOTAS.

Actually it is, or was there any other HOTAS from Logitech? Same designer, fine, but we'll have to see how Logitech is gonna execute that.

Nice split throttle. Ugliest thing I have seen in a while.

I like it, it looks kinda like the F-15C, F/A-18, A-10 throttle which I like and I dreamed of Suncomm F-15 HOTAS back in the day.

Hey! I have a suncom HOTAS collecting dust in my garage. Sitting next to it is a Saitek X45. I am thinking of transplanting the guts from the X45 into the Suncom (which doesn't work and has a Gameport connection).

hmmm...

You know. If any of these joystick companies were "on the ball" they would make a base unit for a flight stick with interchangeable grips (handles).I would happily spend a lot of moola to get a new grip for different jets/helos.

What if say the Joystick was to break would you then have to re-buy the kit and cabudal all over again?

that is something I would like to know.:helpsmilie:

I seem to recall that was originally the plan for the Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS.

If you go that route, let us know how it turns out. It seems like there would be some tradeoffs there.

Leo Bodnar's boards look like a great possibility, (at a price, of course). http://www.leobodnar.com/

I still have a Suncom Hotas as well, and if I was going to attempt to get it going as a USB controller, one of Leo's boards would probably be the way I'd go at it. My interest on that may increase considerably when the next DCS module is due out. :)

Well, I had a problem with my Logitech G25 steering wheel and they just sent me out a new one after I emailed them photos of the wheel and a copy of the invoice in PDF to verify purchase. Pretty damn good support.

I think this G940 will be very good. If the Logitech G25 wheel is anything to go by, the build quality will be second to none. Having owned an X52 I can say that I was particularly unimpressed by how tacky it felt, I was expecting it to be more robust. And since day one I have had that horrible "grating" when making precise moves, due to the way the crappy spring and plate mechanism works. I could never understand why HOTAS makers would use a spring and plate like that, it feels horrible. Even without using the forcefeedback effects, the powered Return-to-Centre is far superior on a FFB stick.

Ill start saving for this :joystick:
