Some nice info about the Mig29A, looks pretty cool and will be nice to have a full fidelity red aircraft

Some info about urgently fixing the major bugs from the last 2 patches would be nice like the F16 issue and getting the Kiowa update and SA MPs updates out.

Some news about the late update to the Afghan map part 1 and late arrival for part 2 would have been very welcome also.

I am sure this module will look great and will be fun to fly. But I am wondering how it will fit into DCS in its current state. Does this model have a datalink or will GCI be required? Will a better, more current Fox 3 missile be available for it? In some servers like SHADOW REAPERS, where weapons are limited to FOX 1s, this would be a great aircraft to fly. But that small exception does make up for much. The current MIG-29 versions and weapons available in DCS are no match for an FA-18 with later model AIM-120s or a Tomcat with the amazing AIM-54. If it is put up against the much improved BLUFOR aircraft it will be so overmatched. I know, it's not about being fair, it's about realism. I fly REDFOR almost exclusively but I doubt I would buy this module because it will be priced at $80 dollars or so, be half finished, and be an antique against current BLUFOR capabilities. Beautiful but useless. Hope i am wrong..... Sorry for the rant!

Many of those questions have been answered already: we'll be getting an '80s-level aircraft, so think more of the initial production batch. That means no datalink (only the MiG-31 had that at the time), and certainly no R-77s.

Obviously it's not going to be competitive on post-CW airquake servers, unless you're clever and resourceful. But in the proper timeframe it's plenty competitive: with its R-73s and R-27s and HMS it will be going up against F-4s, and F-16s armed with AIM-9L/M only.

It's closest BLUFOR match will the the M2000. It will fit very well into 80s cold war scenario.

Raven, You're right, it would be competitive in a server like that. Unfortunately you don't see many of those servers listed and only about zero of them have anyone flying BLUFOR. BLUFOR players prefer to dominate the less technically advanced REDFOR so they seldom fly in those servers. DCS has a definite problem due to less advanced aircraft on REDFOR. Each update they improve BLUFOR aircraft while almost completely ignoring REDFOR. Early cold war and WWII are better for REDFOR... but less profitable for DCS. I fear that in a few more years almost all servers will be BLUFOR only with AI opposition. It seems to be the trend already. Most likely this new FF MIG-29 will not be a huge hit. I doubt it will be a big seller at all. It will have no place where it actually fits in. It is too bad because it is one of the most widely used aircraft in the world. I think even Germany flies an updated version of it. There really is no excuse for not making it a more updated version.......except it would make BLUFOR players mad.  Sorry about the rant!

Seems to me that you are projecting your DCS use-case onto the whole community.
 

It may be a surprise to some, but not everyone here is a competitive multiplayer gamer, there are some users who actually enjoy the simulation, and learning the in and outs of a new DCS aircraft and dont care if it is not an ultra modern aircraft .. I can even enjoy a Fw190 or a Sabre, dont need a super missile to be a happy Simmer.

Well that is where I disagree, then. I think the future of DCS is definitely Cold War as others have stated before (Enigma made a very good video about it). It's a very realistic timeframe to expect full-fidelity BluFor AND RedFor aircraft (shame about the Razbam stuff since the MiG-23 was apparently in the final stretch before release), and it's where most of the assets are as well.
We'll have a Fulda Map soon-ish, and we'll have Iraq to re-enact Desert Storm on (from both sides). If enough Iranian bases are added we can re-enact the first Gulf War (Iran-Iraq). We have a Syria map for Syria-Israel stuff (which Heatblur will even make a campaign about), ...

 

(oh and when it comes to CW, you can even use the Normandy2 map for '80s scenarios for us rotorheads - I think using one of the included airbases as a FARP works quite well)

A modern-ish RedFor fighter has been highly requested for years, and since this MiG-29 is likely the most advanced we'll get for a time (though an early Su-27 is most likely a matter of when not if I'd think).

Exactly!  There are a decent number of people who treat DCS as a virtual museum, so for those people and many others the MiG-29 will be a very welcome addition!

There really is and it has been explained numerous times.

Literally any thread clamoring for more RedFor will go into detail. This is the variant ED found usable resources on. Anything else could land them in legal troubles.

Это вопрос номенклатуры. Русские никогда не использовали обозначения типов по западному образцу

Will this particular model of MiG29A be capable of usually R27? Or is it heat seakers only?

I know some A models could use the R27. But this is the earliest of the early A models.

And this high detailed Mig-29A  will damage  and break same <profanity>y arcade way  like now? it brokes on 3 pieaces, 2 wing tips and the fusealage and those wingtips are burning longer and heavier, than the  whole fusealage? When will be improve this  part of the game?  almost realistic looking environment and aircraft but the  damage model is very bad like it was  in 20 years ago during the lockon times.
