"Updates" are not optimized

Good Day,

I have DCS on a 1TB SSD because, well I love it and I like to fly on various terrains. Unfortunately ED seems to want to punish this, see when I update the thing has to download everything that didn't change (and is already installed) before it does the update itself. This means my 1TB hard disk needs to be twice the size of the install in order to even come close to handling an update smoothly.

Today I had to uninstall all my maps and modules just to update the core game, now once finished I get to go through and install everything again.

Please use a better caching system or add options to the launcher to NOT re-download the whole damn game +modules every time it is updated.

How did you arrive to that conclusion?  My DCS Updater only downloads items that have been updated, I have never seen it download an item that has not been updated.

I updated and it told me i only had 300GB available and need 588GB available

Chill man, people are trying to help you understand that a stock DCS installation is way under those numbers.

For me with a lot of Maps and Modules today the update was 20 GB only, so something is not right on your end.

restating the obvious is not helpful.

If I though 588gb every update was normal why would I make this thread?
I am reporting a bug because I know something is wrong.

Not a single poster here has tried to "help" in anyway other then passively suggesting its on my end or that I don't understand how downloads work.

so for all of you saying there is no issue, that is true for YOU not me.

I believe ED have said they have something coming that will stop you having to essentially redownload the entire map when it gets a small patch.

There's not too much you can do in the meantime, other than maybe splitting up the install across multiple drives.

I think the best solution would be to just buy a bigger SSD. You would never have this problem with 4TB's. It is Christmas after all. Why don't you treat yourself? 🎅

It's true that you don't need 588 GB for the update
but not just 20 GB either, it depends on who because for example my update was more than 100 GB, I use a 2 tera SSD so no space problem for me but not everyone is in the same boat

there is also a method to have another drive, even an HDD and make a symlinks of the C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\_downloads folder. updates will go there and disappear after a successful update.
