First, thank you for creating this Map. So far its looking amazing.
K-Town is maybe small but its in the direct route to Ramstein. I found the city street layout to be very good. I dont expect to find fitting buildings. On thing: It would be great to add the town hall. One of the tallest in Germany. Its a 84m high  landmark while flying over to Ramstein AFB:

A large stripy high building would maybe do the trick already... must not be the real thing.

Beautiful map. Just flew F-4 in VR (Pimax CL, RTX4090, 7800X3D, 64Gb) with from Pferdfeldt to Templehopf at 500 AGL/400 KIAS with nary a glitch nor stutter and locked at 60 FPS (120 Hz locked at 1/2 frame rate). It was a thing of beauty. This map sets a new standard for both visuals and performance. Love the moving trains and the hot air balloons (are there 99 of them? ;-). Will have LOTS of fun exploring this, and coming up with missions and maybe a campaign! Strong work and congratulations to all who had a hand in making it.

I was initially excited to see this map come out but only because I was stationed in Germany for eight years and thought it would be cool to see my old stomping grounds in DCS. However in reality, I don't get the point or excitement among the community over a "Cold-War" map on a "Combat" simulator.  All I can say is, as someone who actually spent an extended period of time on the ground in Germany, this map is a disappointment. I get that it is still a "work in progress" but there are far to many cookie cutter basses thsat don't come close to matching the real thing, inaccurate architecture in most all the towns and villages, bridges, missing castles.. etc etc.  It would be nice if for once we were sold a finished product, instead of something that's going to take another two years or more to complete. I wish I could get my money back on this one. I would have rather seen a WWII version of this map.

Overall I love this map. I live in the central part of the map and I'm stocked to see such details. Just some minor details that could be fixed.

  • Please fix the Umlauts: Buchel should be Büchel, Gieben should be Gießen, Bückeburg, Gütersloh etc.
  • The Rhön mountains near Fulda should spot the characteristical radomes:
  • Also the Wasserkuppe airfield would be awesome https://radom-wasserkuppe.de/geschichte/
  • Würzburg looks off. The city is more centered around the river Main
  • Neuhof near Fulda and some eastern towns spot salt mountains that are very interesting. The salt mine industrial zone is already included with the thermal power plant. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Kali
  • All DCS Markets Spot the Syrian Flags
  • A-10 can't be placed in Spangdahlem although the used to be stationed there

Those are valid criticisms, but tbh, it sounds like you got unrealistic expectations about the map. This is probably the most detailed and accurate DCS map, right? And one with the largest detail area to beat already in phase 1. More than this is probably out of the scope of DCS for the foreseeable future, people already complain about the level of memory used or performance (which isnt even bad considering detail+scale).

I certainly wouldnt complain about improvements like a bit more fitting architecture, some 80s towns kinda look like 50s towns, or even higher accuracy, but DCS  cant be MSFS2024. And even that game has shortcomings that would be unacceptable in DCS.

I find they managed to recreate a German vibe in this map. We can't expect a 1:1 recreation. Thats for MSFS.
Landing in Ramstein I only felt the hills seem a bit flat. I lived in that area and the town is surrounded by propper hills and some roads are really steep. But thats a minor critic. I also guess we'll see Mannheim and Heidelberg in better detail. Mannheim is a checker board layout and in later phases Karsruhe with its very unique street layout (rays).

Dear Ugra Team. Thanks for this map it looks very promising. And already with a good sense for detail vs performance.

I'm getting worse performance than in Syria, but thats maybe again a DCS Core thing with its texture/memory handling.

I was hoping to show my friend his town.  Bensheim.   His part of it has a factory there and nothing else in game.   That area is fully developed today.   I planned on bombing him but nothing but trees.  🙂

Looking forward to Lahr and Baden-Söllingen.

Sorry to hear you are dissapointed, generally maps in DCS are not meant to be 1:1 to real world and only meant to give a look and feel that would be believeable, that said because its early access now is the time to give this feedback, especially if you have some photos or suggestions about improving the map, now is the time and one of the biggest reasons for Early Access. Make sure you get your feedback in the bugs or the wishlist section so the team sees it.

As for the Cold War thing, well, I would guess that 100% of all missions, campaigns and such are not going to replicate any real world battle 100%. The idea of a Cold War gone hot is a very interesting 'what if' scenario for many, and I think it will be a lot of fun, especially as the plane offerings grow.

Thanks!

I am surpised to miss Bonn as the german capital during cold war on the map. I suppose this would be a primary target for Warshaw Pact forces during cold war.

Phase 2 with Nörvenich and Cologne.

done. Thank you. I don't want a 1:1 re creation just to add to the general vibe of the area 🙂. The place of the old theatre and town hall right now is plain, maybe they already have some plans...

Yeah, I guess I forgot to consider it being an "early release". Maybe I'm being too critical.  I'll give it more time and see how it progresses.

There is a huge difference between some special characters and a whole new writing system. The replacement for ü is ue, ö is oe, ä is ae. You get the idea. That's a valid alternative.

Hi folks,

First of all i would like to say thanks for this wonderful addon. But after a flight from Berlin Tegel to the River Oder and back with the F-4 But some GDR NVA airfields could be worked on again. Strausberg EDAY is a green field, instead heavy industry where there was no real one, like in Msfs 202x and Neuhardenberg EDON also not available, was one of the most important of the NVA at that time. I haven't checked Werneuchen and Finow yet. Frankfurt an der Oder and Eisenhüttenstatt and their steelworks are missing. If only Erich and Margot knew, I was driving around there yesterday on the F4 heavy

I'd like to report two annoying bugs:

  1. You cannot place A-10CII as take off from ramp at Spangdahlem. They are moved to Bitburg. A10s used to fly out of Spangdahlem and even have default liveries for that.
  2. At the base near the Hammelburg training ground H FRG 46 there are trees over all the 4 helipads

Thanks for this awesome map.

Just saw a video reckoning it needs 64GB of RAM to run well. Is this true? I'm running 32gb DDR4 with an RTX 4070 at 1080p and find Syria pretty good. Marianas I've always found not so great. Thoughts on this?

Thanks for the map! It's awesome to fly over my home country in DCS and find a lot of prominent features. Looking forward to the next updates and seeing it further improved. From my limited exploration of the map I find it is a very promising start. Good luck to the dev team, may your efforts be rewarded.

I have only 32 GB RAM and 3080 TI and it works fine as far as i have tested. Potsdam neuse Plais but no Sansoussi, but it`s not google maps , I can live with that. Schäferberg looks better than in Mx202x

Correct me if I'm wrong guys, seems the airfields in Germany map is generally flat, from many screenshots can see the airfields are super flat and like a straight rectangles. I know the 90% of the time we're in the air but different terrain bumping can bring the special landing\takeoff experience, just like Ugra them selves did very good on the Syria map the İncirlik air base. And ED's Guam, they have non flat runways that's a sign of they care about Terrain experience.
