New Su-25 Check In

Hello everyone. For the past 5 months I haven't heard any new announcements about the upcoming free Su-25. If anyone has any information about it please post anything you have here. I think we would all appreciate it greatly.

I just remembered there was an article that came out on January 31st on the official DCS website, where it said that there would be a free Su-25 coming to DCS soon. Here's the link to that article: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/2025-01-31/

Regular Su-25 is such a fun crate, I think adding that to the free to play stable is a great move on ED's part. It flies sporty  when loaded with six bins of rockets and makes some pretty impressive booms with that.

There is no such thing as "Su-25A". The basic version is just 'Su-25'.

Ah ok. I think I just saw people calling it the "Su-25a" on YouTube, that's why I started calling it that. But still, no new free Su-25 then?

Hi, it was officially mentioned - later this year so not too soon. I think Q4.

Hey, there are three months left until the end of the year. It's great that the MiG-29A FF has arrived, but what about the promised Su-25 FC3 refresh?

Maybe some news in the weekly news + some screenshots? Is there still a chance the new Su-25 will appear this year?

Full fidelity? Don't think they would give that away for free, and I have a feeling they are working on one already, or making a decision based on the Fulcrum sales.

If they have enough data about the flight model: there must be a reason why Su-25 is the only FC3 bird without PFM

It would be an instant buy from me if they make it FF, obviously!

if i am correct there are 2 types of years one is regular yearly calendar which is followed worldwide for mostly everything which is Gregorian calendar, according to it the start of the year is 1st January 2025 and then there is financial year which changes from country to country. so which one does ED follow and if financial means when is their financial year start/end.

After all, when Wags recorded the video, when he mentioned the release of the newer Su-25 (end of this year), he was not saying this to accountants , but to DCS users and pilots. I don't think YouTube is for that. XD

If I recall, some of the Su-25T code has been lost to time. Perhaps in the future they will decide it is too difficult to maintain and it will stop being supported in future builds and the free Su-25 will be the replacement for the free module. 

I hope that is not the case as I enjoy the Su-25T, and wish it would be updated with a newer cockpit and 3D model. But it was a very limited production variant, I think with 8 models being built. The Su-25SM is the standardized upgrade program and there are a few sub-variations/upgrades of it.

Yes, the Su-25T is a bit of a fantasy, of course, in terms of production models, and we're in a similar situation with the Ka-50, not to mention the Ka-50 III. The model is nice and interestingly designed, though. I'm concerned that we're practically at the end of the year, and it looks like we won't get the updated cockpit of the basic Su-25. It's only a month until the end of the year, and there's no news or even screenshots of its development.

The nice thing about Soviet equipment is that they weren't very big on system integration, but were big on commonality. So if the Shkval system works one way in Ka-50, it will work exactly the same in Su-25T. Soviet aircraft generally have separate control heads for everything, and those heads are common between all aircraft that utilize the system. For instance, the gyro control unit in the Hind is exactly the same as you'd find in Tu-154. Some functions might be missing on some aircraft, but each system can largely be considered in isolation. 

As such, if ED wanted to do an FF Su-25T, they probably could, provided licensing could be worked out, of course. The aircraft is in service, though not very many of them. That said, if the FC3 version is any indication, it's pretty sluggish to fly, and not all that fun to actually use in combat. I enjoyed flying the Su-25 more, it's far nimbler.

Sure but it’s also the only SEAD platform RedFor has at the moment…

So it would be great to have a FF module with those capabilities before the free Su-25T becomes deprecated.
