fargo007 Posted June 27 Posted June 27 So far I'm using the zero skin on the Fw-190, and the B29 and Akizuki (Japanese destroyer) mods from here, which do work: http://virtualcockpits.web.fc2.com/mod/mod.html Any others ones you all are using, post em up. I'd really love to find an enemy plane to act at least a little like a real zero that will die without taking 4000 rounds. Have fun. Don't suck. Kill bad guys. https://discord.gg/blacksharkden/

I've tried it, and watched a Zeke follow me through a power-on dive to 400kts IAS. I've seen another mod elsewhere for a G4M2, but it apparently has no hit box and can't be shot down. 1

I'm firmly of the opinion that when Japanese aircraft get modeled, they should be modeled based on their ACTUAL performance, not their "on-paper" specs. No Homare engine ever produced its rated power for the Ki-84 on that 87/91 gas the Japanese had. 3
Nealius Posted June 28 Posted June 28 All AI in DCS fly like UFOs. This isn't limited to mods, and it won't be fixed until we get the long-promised GFM that was talked about for the past five years or so (with no updates as to its progress). 5

Raiden is set to "veteran" (may have been "ace") but I did give myself a 70% fuel while the J2M3 is flying with 100% fuel. https://youtu.be/FIK1e9z5a7E My problem with this mod is that it's too easily damaged/destroyed - a couple of hits on the wing or something and it's going down. By comparison, the fake "Zero" (Fw190A8) can take all kinds of punishment and still flies. The Zeke mod from the above website is unusable: Even on "rookie", the thing flies like a UFO - far worse than the Raiden. The B-29 is ok, but flies more like a fighter than a heavy bomber. The Japanese carrier is awesome. Regardless of all the quirks, I'm very thankful to the creator of these mods for all the work he/she has put in. Too bad they've haven't kept them updated for the newer DCS versions, but for the most part, the mods are still fairly usable. 1

I will give it another try with those fuel params. I'm going to say that not requiring a substantial amount of hits is actually way more realistic here than the UFO like flight characteristics it shows. Just like the zero, it had no armor at all. The Fw on the other hand was very heavily armored. German steel and all. I live in Pensacola and there's a 262 in the museum here. I touched it and was surprised how thick the metal was. The video above has some really encouraging mods in progress. Looking forward to those. Edited June 28 by fargo007 1 Have fun. Don't suck. Kill bad guys. https://discord.gg/blacksharkden/

It'd be nice if someone could fix the flight models on some of these mods, at least to the point they were reasonably usable. It's not fun losing every advantage you're supposed to have because the modeling is off. 2
Draken35 Posted June 28 Posted June 28 The "UFO effect" can, usually, be mitigated by adding mass using setUnitInternalCargo ... The skill level is a factor in determining how much it needs but it is a trial and error process. 1 3

He posted about it in his F-5E Black Sea Resolve '79 Campaign. Share the mass/skill values please... I'll do the same when I get to test it. Edited June 28 by Draken35 2 1

It can come past you at 450mph do a 180° 11g turn while keeping 400knots. Then overtake you and shoot you down. 1 1 i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.
fargo007 Posted June 28 Author Posted June 28 I did some experimenting. The raiden mod requires a whopping 2250kg of extra weight to keep it from going straight up and coming back down on you. OTOH, I find the P47 out of the box to be a pretty game opponent for the corsair. It can't zoom you like you're standing still but if you lose sight of it you'll definitely take some lead. I think I'm kinda done with that raiden mod. 1 Have fun. Don't suck. Kill bad guys. https://discord.gg/blacksharkden/

fargo007 Posted June 28 Author Posted June 28 (edited) 17 hours ago, Saxman said: What about the Zero? And are the regular loaded weights on the mod even accurate to start with? I haven't tried the zero. No I don't think the default is at all accurate. There's no way this plane can go from a sustained turn straight into the vertical time after time. There are zero skins for the corsair, so I may try that. The AI corsair is so powerful we would have a hard time killing it with a jet. ETA - it takes 1550kg of weight on the AI Corsair with 100% fuel in it to make it a somewhat evenly matched opponent at the "Trained" level. Even with this, it's still going to flagrantly use the vertical against you in a "one way street," since you can't follow him. If I could get a jap p47 skin that would be ideal. There are a couple japanese p47 skins in the user files. Trying them out. Edited June 29 by fargo007 Have fun. Don't suck. Kill bad guys. https://discord.gg/blacksharkden/
Doc3908 Posted June 30 Posted June 30 I just tried the setUnitInternalCargo on the Zero from the Japanese website. With weight set to 2000kg, the Zero barely moves, so it's not a challenge even on "ace". At 1200kg it's very competitive and challenging but not a UFO. At 1500kg it's adequate as an opponent, but not as lively and fun. So, depending on your preference and skill, it looks like 1200kg to 1500kg is where you need to be to have the Zero fly like a Zero. I may post a video later. Cheers and thanks again for the tip about setUnitInternalCargo!! 2 1
Devil 505 Posted July 2 Posted July 2 Been installing them all weekend! Check this out and the link below. HIGHLY recommend going to the discord in Hawkeye60's forum below. TONS of Pacific stuff in there. All the mods in the video below were downloaded from the links in his thread. However, I started finding updated ones on his discord after I shot the video. More videos to come. Even saw WW2 deck crew in there. 3 3

Also found a Japanese Zero. As of now, I have a Zero, Val, Kate, and one other I am not as familiar with. More videos to come! Doing a little more work on the fleet. Probably add deck crew to if the mod works well, 3
Saxman Posted July 2 Posted July 2 I wish the actual downloads were easier to find than scrolling through the chat. 2
Saxman Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Looks like there's a glitch with the Tony: DCS thinks it's a bomber, so you can't assign it to fighter missions.
Saxman Posted July 3 Posted July 3 Update: I went into the Ki-61's LUA file and added the missing mission types in. I'm also looking through the Zero's file. It looks like the Max G for AI pilots was set to 8. From what I can gather, the Zero was rated for 6G. It's also giving it 8000kg of thrust. That's as much thrust as one engine on the F-4 Phantom! So I'm going to try tweaking those settings on the Zero. I've set Max G (for AI) to 6, and I ran the horsepower at sea level through a converter to get about 582kg of thrust at SL. I'm gonna see what happens if I run those settings. 1
