I propose an editor "module" or function that would allow mission designers to auto-generate civilian air traffic for missions.

  • Designers could designate airports or map edge points (portals) between which traffic routes would be automatically populated.
  • The function should furthermore allow basic control over air traffic density, unit types, randomization etc.
  • The "module" should also allow control through triggers to change parameters during runtime.

With such a system mission designers should be able to create believable civilian air traffic with only a few clicks, while still allowing enough control for the system to adapt during mission runtime.

If you like the proposed improvements, please rate this thread 5 stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟

Thanks!

What good is air traffic without even 737 or A320 models?

I have been using Cfrag`s  "DML"  "CivAir"  for Years !

It is fantastic and i have a similar setup i use for running random timetable DCS Trains if ever the Broken Deactivation gets fixed !

I cant believe you people dont know about CivAir !

Download the DML Lua files the Manual and the Demos and give them a try.

Sadly Cfrag is no longer updating DML  " A VERY SAD HUGE LOSS to the Community "

I Believe recent DCS updates and this Forum have stuffed things up yet again.

You cannot afford to loose creators of His caliber.

Give CivAir a go - I have attached the .miz

demo - Civ Air International.miz

I think for "basic functionality" it's better to have robust systems built directly into the game.

Nice idea maybe add it to the growing wish list. 🚂 🚂🚂  🥳

The old saying goes " You can drag a Horse to water but you can't make it Drink " 😬

I will check back in 10 years time to see how its progressing. 😎

Good Luck 😀

In the meantime theres always cfrag`s Fantastic DML - untill the much needed DCS Core updates kill it all off 😢

With the DCS: Top End Australia map and the RAAF assets they were developing for it, we almost had a 737 model that could have been modified (by ED or Check Six) to replicate a civilian airliner... With them folding before anything was even developed, sadly that window has closed.

For Air Policing/Interception missions, civilian air traffic in areas where it should be, is a must. I try to add things like this for immersion in my missions using the Yak-40 and An-26 mostly.

Even if they just stripped the E-3 of its radar and defensive system fittings, that's a 707... Ironically, a 707 is also used as a tanker by some countries... A 737 and/or an A320 model aren't that hard to come by, or even making one themselves wouldn't be *that* hard, considering. Doesn't need a highly detailed interior, doesn't need to be fitted and ready for flyable module quality - just needs to pass an exterior look as you pull up next to it after an intercept, or if it's squawking 7500.

Even if you couldn't actually control when or where they appeared outside of allowing them to do so and where they'd take off from/land at - still more immersive than...KC-135s in civilian airliner liveries... 🙃

I'm pretty sure that the Yak-40 and An-26 are the most used aircrafts in my missions not counting player/client controlled AC 🫠

Currenthill is now part of the team.
Why not just bring in the guys from Civilan Aircraft Mod and Military Aircraft Mod?
Wouldn't that be much quicker and easier?

For one, the 3D models must have been created by those guys or if purchased elsewhere their license would have to allow royalty free use for ED, for two, you would need to get licenses from Boeing or Airbus, which probably are not cheap. We, as simple dcs users, probably can’t imagine the amount of resources needed to add such assets to the Sim.

Ah, true unfortunately. Licensing is a bitch! Companies should rather see this as free advertising. Pretty sure no one required licenses back in the 80s/90s.
I wonder how Corgi and Matchbox dealt with this.

Let's just look at "others" CIV/MIL simulators:
- In civilian flight simulators, certain companies like Boeing are very protective of their products.
- In a certain truck simulator... they used fictional truck models until they reached agreements with certain manufacturers (and now that they're moving into bus simulators, they'll probably do the same).
- In military simulators, it's the same thing; certain companies demand royalties, just for using certain weapons brands.
Imagine what could happen if a company comes along and issues a "cease and desist" order... only to make a 3D model.

That's all true, but for a civilian airliner module ED could skirt around licensing issues by not using the brand and product names. The visual external appearance of a 737 is not something you will get dragged to court about. Maybe change a few details visually to be extra safe. I mean have a look at DCS: NS 430. Looks suspiciously similar to a GNS 430.
I think this is a case in trademark law where courts have decided more clearheaded than people suspect...

Yup! All the weapons in ARMA look identical, while called something else. And like I said, I don't understand why they don't see it as free advertising.

If I made something cool, it would be dope to see it in a computer game. 😊

but the manufacturers license does not allow, for example, a truck to be anything less than brand new, that’s why you can’t damage it at all no matter how serious the accident. 😞

Oh, that must be what's going on with the YAK-52 then 😛
