The Sea Harrier F/A2 has very good air-to-air capabilities, to me it seems more like a dogfighter.

If its to A/A oriented i still wouldnt mind the AV8 instead =)

does anyone know if V/STOL is possible in this game engine

FA/2 Sea harrier has ALOT more improvements, mostly avionics and weaponry.

With a little reading, I think the F-15C Strike Eagle would be the best Multi role aircraft.

Ummmmm... ^^^ the FA/2 is no longer in service ^^^^

only GR 7/9s are.

aaaaand its the F-15 E Strike Eagle

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Umm being as though DCS Blackshark is a helo sim I would imagine that VSTOL is possible.

I recon the next unit will be a Tornado GR4 on wild weasel, recon and ground attack.

If its not in service anymore that means there would be more open information.

it retired in 2006 and the a-10c first deployed in 2007. It is only a year apart so i imagine that is within the era of aircraft ED is going for and isnt the varient of the KA-50 we're flying a 90s? varient?

I would be happy with any harrier ED can get their hads on and im sure they could get their hands on a modern harrier just like they got the a-10c.

As would I, the Harrier could make for an incredible sim if done properly, and if anyone can do it justice I think were in the right place :pilotfly:

... just don't take it into a dogfight with a fighter with any expectations of winning.

It's the pilot not the machine...........................

Well, they're exceptions.

Isnt that what the Argentinians said rather foolishly before realising what a mistake they made?

The Argentinians had the better plane, but those planes could not be air-refueled. They literally did not have the fuel to dogfight AND get home which is why the harriers went effectively un-opposed. Pilot skill was simply not something that was a factor in that situation. The pilot could have all the skill he wanted, but it won't do you much good when you're out of fuel and you can't go left or right without crashing into the ocean.

Let me remind you that several British ships were hit with bombs that failed to fuse due to poor parameters ... just realize that the Argentinians did get ordnance on target, and it was a relatively small mistake on their part in this case that failed them.

The Harrier is not a good dogfighting machine, period. It has a high-loaded wing and a very average turn rate. If you run into a real fighter with it, all other things being equal, you're toast.

What about its abilities to vectored thrust in dogfights? AKA VIFFing?

Not much different than a Cobra maneuver - ie. it's a 'dirty trick' that might work once, but once a pilot sees it, all you're doing is stopping yourself in mid-air = cannot dodge cannon, absolutely cannot hope to dodge missiles. A bad position to be in.

So yeah, it might work on your first bandit, but his wingman will peel you, assuming he's got half a brain. And then he'll tell his buddies ... and then the glory of VIFFing is over :)

No worries about the wingie........Just 'hit the brakes and he'll fly right by' - toast!

Undoubtely, I would assume the F-16C would be the most desired plane for the majority of the people in the sim community. Not only that will attract sales from all Falcon 4.0 fans and finally provide a modern replacement for this now out of date but legendary sim, but from real world perspective it is also the most widespread multirole plane which will provide for a multitude of realistic scenarios. I know some of you will prefer the F/A-18C, but not so from my point of view, since it will require significant time to model detailed naval operations in DCS, also it is not operated by so many countries as F-16 and last but not least it's flight performance is inferior to the F-16 and other modern fighters making it a not so exiting choice for pure fighter jokes. Also the AH-64A is a possible next aircraft since some work has probably been already done, but the same like for the F/A-18C with naval operations, it will require additional time to implement dual crew cockpit operations. So, I would say the F-16C has the biggest business value and impact on optimizing revenue for the least work involved from a software engineers point of view. However, this discussion is not worth continuing since I don't believe we have significant influence on the decisions what will be the next aircraft, a big role here plays previous military contracts won by Eagle Dynamics like with the first 2 modules, so following that same logic, maybe we can expect to see an AC-130 Spectre as the next DCS aircraft :megalol:. But if they decide to take our wishes into consideration, my vote goes for an F-16C placed in an Mediteranian\Aegean theater (Greece, Turkey and Israel all operate the type) which will provide for exiting new scenarios :D.

P.S. In this case, could you please extend the terrain a few more hundred kilometers north to encompass Macedonia as well  ?

... it will out-turn and out-alpha an F-16, and pretty much most other fighters, too. ;) It does lack in TWR though.

... No :D You won't be flying an AC-130. The AC-130 is a 'station' simulator. It simulates the AC-130's gunner's station.

The biggest business value and impact comes from military contracts probably ... after that, the knowledge gained there is put into the flight sims we get. What comes after A-10C will probably be a) already done or being done for a military/contractor and b) the fastest thing ED can implement in a given time.

IF it so happens that they have a couple things they can implement and they don't much care which one goes first from a business perspective, they may well go with what the community is looking forward to the most next.

Just a guess on my part.

We may get an F-16 or F-18 next then, both would be very popular choices im sure!! id love either, the F-16 is a firm favourite of mine but i would actually opt for the F-18 myself, the closest iv come to flying one is FSX acceleration which is fun and all but not so realistic i think. One thing i would love to see implimented is a flying school type tutorial along the lines of Jet stream which was a documentary following Canadian F-18 pilots, very good stuff. And would no doubt be very helpfull getting the average person like me capable of opporating such a complicated aircraft... one step at a time  Also, be fair on the good old Harrier, she punches above her weight and i like that, i really, really hope we get a sim for it eventually...

So, should we check Total Immersion Software / TheBattleSim homepages about what new military simulation comes out.

I doubt that we will see DCS: Predator or Reaper next, although it's not completely silly idea. :)

By the way, did anyone notice this in May 2010 TheBattleSim press release?

At ITEC 2010, The Fighter Collection will be demonstrating the Desk Top Simulator of the A-10C, the Desk Top Simulator of the Ka-50 helicopter, the JTAC workstation and the artillery commander workstation, all linked over a LAN demonstrating typical Joint Fires exercises.
