Fantaisiser Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I've just flown a mission at 2030 and visibility was pretty low, couldnt get point tracking on a tank until about 5 miles out but that wasnt the biggest problem, my mavericks would not find a lock at all, I ended up flying over the target area. Should I just forget about mavericks at night? They were AGM-65H's, would another version work better?
rob10 Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Haven't tried it but since the D version is optical tracking in low light you probably weren't getting enough contrast to lock. The D or G infared tracker versions logically should work better in this scenario.
reddog832 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Camo skin? Help! Ok first off I love this sim...so I decided to download from DCS website some user created camo skins. I have installed them as per instructions yet in the loadout screen where you can change paintscheme....nothin they aint there. I know there must be a reason (probably somthing obvious I missed.) but I would appreciate any help. Thanx...using vista 64 (yes I know) and running the full A10 not the beta....thanx guys
Scepter Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Luminous Target I have tried numerous times to turn my nav lights out prior to a night strike but to no avail. Using keys L RCtrl have no response. Any ideas? :helpsmilie:
GGM Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Anyone had problem on directly entering unit map (F10 view) coordinates (Lat/Long) to CDU as a mark ponts, for example? It points to slightly different place when entered to CDU, than actual place on F10 view. I realised this when practicing to enter direct L/L for target in F10 view for blind CCRP GBU bombing. Is this normal? Any tips for entering L/L coordinates to match exactly those shown for units in F10 or Editor view? [sigpic][/sigpic]

Any ideas? :helpsmilie: Scepter, The HOTAS "Pinky switch" must be set to the AFT position in order for you to have full control over your external lights. Look for the key assignment in the HOTAS section of the settings page (I'm at work, so I can't look). EDIT: I re-read your post, and I guess I misunderstood. You want the pinky switch forward, which will black out all your lights. Edited May 13, 2011 by BlueRidgeDx "They've got us surrounded again - those poor bastards!" - Lt. Col. Creighton Abrams
John1606687966 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Rigth, i can't wrap my head around how coordinates work in this game.. Or in real life for that matter :P I'm doing a mission which in the briefing lists me a set of coordinates for certain targets, it looks like this : N-4409821 E-04330386 I know how to type coordinates into the CDU, such as the ones the JTAC but this looks nothing like those. It's an essential part learning this but i can't make sence of it.. I tried to read up on how coordinates work but i'm so confused. I know there are L/L & UTM coords but the difference between these as far as i know is that L/L is east and UTM is north.. i think?
mtuckner Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Lat Long is North and Easting. Hence the N and E. They are given as two separate lines with an N and an E for each. The N is given first followed by the E. UTM are the same in that they give northing and easting but they lump them into one number with two letters in front. The two letters in front are the map sheet number. MN08763456 would be a UTM example (a random one). The first four letters are the northing and the second four are the easting. UTM is generally used on the ground and L/L are used by aircraft.
PhiXX Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 I know there are L/L & UTM coords but the difference between these as far as i know is that L/L is east and UTM is north.. i think? I'm no expert in this coordinate stuff but L/L=latitude(Nxxxxxxx)/longitude(Exxxxxxx) (forgive me mistakes pls) UTM and L/L are different ways to express coordinates. JTAC will give you coordinates in UTM and you won't need L/L then
John1606687966 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Ok so the N-4409821 E-04330386 are L/L coordinates, how do i put it to use however? I guess i'm not going to type N4409821E04330386 into the CDU and voila there is my target?

I guess i'm not going to type N4409821E04330386 into the CDU and voila there is my target? create a new waypoint in flightplan and display it in cdu. there you can change the latitude and longitude. with addition of elevation of target, voila :smilewink:
John1606687966 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 Yeah i know how to input the coordinate, question is in which format.. Typing the entire thing together is a 17 didgit long coordinate which is wrong & produces a CDU input error.. Bah i'm so confused lol
John1606687966 Posted May 13, 2011 Posted May 13, 2011 (edited) i'm starting to understand.. Thanks for the help guys! :P Edited May 13, 2011 by John
Brer Rabbit Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) Quick Question. When your on the Divert Page in the CDU, how do you get the degrees at which the runway is laid out so you can put it in the course for the HDI? I get the magenetic heading for the runway, but I don't know what to stick in the HDI for the course to line up with the runway. In the tutorial, the teacher tells us to input 130 degrees into the HSI to set up a course to align with the runway. I never knew how he got that number. Edited May 14, 2011 by Br'er Rabbit

I never knew how he got that number. The runway number is the approximate heading of the runway (minus the ones digit) i.e. Runway 13 would have heading near, not necessarily exactly at, 130. 1 ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! If you enter coordinates manually, you should account for the difference in L/L formats used in F10 view and in the aircraft. In Mission editor we have degrees, minutes, seconds. A-10C instead uses degrees, minutes and.. thousands of minutes. For example. If you have Latitude of 41°33'30'' in F10 view, correct input in in CDU should be 41°33.500. 500 = 30 / 6 * 100. GGM Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 (edited) Ouch... My fault :) Many thanks Olgerd! :) ------- Just checked again... much closer, but still not exactly same location as unit. had around 15 m deviation from target. Also, when locked via TGP point mode, onscreen L/L thousands sections is slightly different than ones calculated from seconds. What may cause it? Edited May 14, 2011 by GGM [sigpic][/sigpic]
