DCS A-10C QUESTIONS

Newbie here trying to get the cockpit view hotkeys down. I was wondering if it was possible to zoom in and out by using the scroll key on a mouse. I tried but I don't think it registers. Also, is there something like the free view that they had in Falcon 4.0? It is where you can click and drag your mouse around to look around, instead of pressing buttons. Really frustrating me so far T_T

I have seen many videos and all the pilots are looking around and zooming in so smoothly and effortlessly.

Also, by getting a Saitek x52, will my life be easier? Or will this be enough? http://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-T-Flight-Hotas-Flight-Game-console/dp/B001CXYMFS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1305404193&sr=1-1

Use LALT-C to switch to Mouselook, mousewheel will zoom then. What you are probably seeing in to those videos is TrackIR

Nate

thank you so mucH!

this that guy using track ir? his movements are flawless!

in this video:

the pilot seems to be using free view but is still able to click on buttons and switches. but when I press lft alt-C, I go into free view but I cannot click on buttons. However, by the way the view kinda "bobs" up and down (realism), I feel like I am missing another view option.

Just checked again... much closer, but still not exactly same location as unit. had around 15 m deviation from target. Also, when locked via TGP point mode, onscreen L/L thousands sections is slightly different than ones calculated from seconds.

What may cause it?

Are you lasing the target for an exact range? To see what I mean, watch this video by Headspace:

Also, make sure that you're in DTS mode (getting terrain altitude data from DTS rather than using your aircraft's current altitude above ground level), as that mistake would put your mark point above or below the actual ground level and cause inaccuracy. DTS mode is shown on the bottom right side of the HUD. I don't have a screenshot handy, but it's in that block of stuff on the bottom right side of the HUD.

I know Wags is using TIR and from the look I would say the other vid is using it as well.

Not with keyboard and mouse, head-tracking is worth investing in, be it TrackIR or Freetrack.

Nate

thanks nate! for now I will just use the hat switch on a joystick to look around. btw someone online told me about profiles for the x52. I found some while searching the forums. however, is there one that is the most popular?

AI Escort Task

How do you get AI fighters to escort transports, AWACS etc? I've tried using the mission type escort and tracking the AI fighters in the general area of the AWACS to be escorted, they just RTB after the first waypoint. The UI manual is not very helpful in this area.

Any advice appreciated.

Literally speaking, you can't. The AI has no notion of 'my mission is to escort this other aircraft'. You can achieve a similar effect just by having them patrol in the same area, i.e. set up an 'orbit' task the same way you do for the AWACS, somewhere between the AWACS flight and the anticipated direction of enemy fighters.

I normally use a CAP tasking for this, although the particular tasking type shouldn't matter (so long as it allows them to engage enemy fighters). I think 'escort' might be more appropriate for e.g. escorting a transport flight from A to B, while a CAP is more applicable to patroling a giving area for a particular duration.

Veering Left

For some reason when I start my take off the plane veers left dramatically. I correct and then take flight. During my flight to target it has a tendency to do the same thing. I have even taken my hands off of the joystick and throttle to make sure I am not doing something unconsciously. Trying to line up a bomb run in CCRP is virtually impossible. Ideas?

Do you have AIM 9's on the wing that drops?

Also try right CNtrl + Enter and make sure the axis of your joystick is centred.

Maybe give some more info as to loadout joystick. Are you in game or Sim mode?

The AIM 9's are not configured to drop. I am in game mode. The stick is centered along with the steering and thrust. I have a Thrusmaster X but will soon have an X52. I can't think of an unusual loadout on the stick.

I'm a newbie to the forum. When you mention "Track" what do you mean?

A track file, the sim automatically records every input that happens during a session and saves it into a trackfile, so the session can be reviewed without having to handle large video files. Instead, the engine is just told to run with the same user inputs.

To obtain a trackfile, press the 'save track' button on the bottom of the mission debriefing screen to a location of your choice and supply it for review.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.
